Thanks guys for putting the cruising lifestyle into perspective. I remember when I first started following your channel I was wondering, why do they take brakes? But hearing your explanation back then, that it was important to keep a connection with the friends back home, and that it is good to get the head reset, makes a lot of sense. It's a thing I didn't think of before. As you mentioned, life is a journey, so it makes sense that it only becomes more interesting from changing perspective now and then.

Re winches maintenance, yup sheet winches they last a long time...but don't forget the anchor windlass. They take a lot of abuse and need work especially when used a lot by the cruising life rather than 3 time a year like most boats get used. Love your insight, you defiantly tell it like it is for you. Thanks Warren

Really enjoyed the honesty of this. We’ve cruised for up to four months at a time and can readily identify with the need for balance; and for not being continually underway ... an old sailing friend described it as needing to “see more and more of less and less”. That sort of sums us up too! Crack on guys ... enjoying your channel .... Roy PS ... wasn’t too long. But please no shades next time!

Here's my take after watching you for years and other channels for years also. I think cruising is a fun thing to do if one does it for let's say a month at a time or several weekends a year. Living on land is great if you take the time to sail as often as you can. But to do just one or the other exclusively I think is wrong. Too much fun on land, too much to miss cruising. So for me, If I were younger I would have a yacht on which I would spend as much time as money allowed, and I would live on the land. But that is just me. In the meantime, keep on keeping on because I really enjoy the cruising life with you from right here in my home with you guys. You make it fun and I get to share in it.

If you're still there, we really enjoyed 167 Raw for some great fresh seafood (the lobster roll is a must) and enjoyed spending time at Proof listening to live jazz on Monday night. One topic I would like to see is what you do for video editing! What type of cameras do you use, software, where do you find music (assuming you find royalty free stuff), etc.? My wife would call me a photo/video nut, but I can't resist technology :)

A boat depreciates in value a lot faster, so I would go for a house, as to an investment (if it's monetary value you're after). Nick, since a boat is so much maintenance, how important is it to have a woman that is LOW maintenance on board? lol On a serious note, do you recommend the centreboard (or drop keel whatever it's called)? One of the things I get nervous about is capsizing during a storm. Is it THAT unlikely with all the equipment to avoid big storms, that I shouldn't worry too much.

1. I haven't gotten past the first question yet and am already laughing. Nick sounds like he's lecturing you (indirectly) for your response and the lettuce comment. 2. You don't need to justify taking a break. I often wonder how you guys can stay on the boat for such long periods. Seems like a small, floating cave with very little space for two people to share 24/7. Frequent stops I'm sure help but surely longer breaks and staying in a non-moving more open space would be absolutely necessary for most people.

Life is about BALANCE!!! Balance in all things. Some peeps will sail full time, like Delos, while others will mix it up a bit. I plan on trying it for 6 months and see how it feels before saying I'm going to be a live-a-board. Like Nick said...maybe it's about being anchored or at a marina sitting still for a while and not "cruising" all the time. PEACE OUT!!! Ü

Your comments about "stopping the boat moving" hit home. On our last trip to the BVI, we had issues ONLY when moving between locations. Mainly because it was so crowded. So much so that the daughter coined the phrase "Dad's on a mooring ball." which meant I was relaxed. We still use it here on land. Also T is looking buff (no creeper) and Nick looks thinner (no homo), you guys been working out?

So Nick, a very important question, can Terysa cook? and is she any good? (Its not really a question I can address to Terysa herself). I realise the Galley ain't quite the same as a house kitchen but does she cope? - I see quite a few 'sailors' preferring to just dump a tin of spaghetti or sausage 'n Beans into a saucepan and calling that a Main Course! lol

Just ran into an issue at my marina this past weekend in the NorthEast from Tropical Storm Philippe where the marina experienced 50mph sustained winds and gusts to over 70mph. Many boats in slips side by side had hull damage as did mine. The winds from the SE stretched and broke the dock lines on one side of the slip to cause the boat to rub and bang into the other in the shared slip. Mine was the "other" and my hull sustained severe rubbing from the lower toe rail of the other boat that it wore a meter X meter area down through the gelcoat to bare glass. I was awaiting winter haul out and the marina was behind schedule, otherwise I would have been out of harms way ... ugh! My question for you is .... "How do you best prepare for this?" I guess if I had 4-6 fenders on the side of the boat away from the dock that maybe would have helped a bit ... but then I have to store all these bloody fenders onboard each time I leave the dock or buy a dock box to store them in. Now I am facing repairs that are temperature sensitive near winter time and hope that it can get done so that it does not affect my Spring launch and shorten my next season. Being away from the boat in a secure marina only protects you somewhat ... in the end, at dock or at sea we are all subject to the fury of Mother Nature!
@PineLinedFarms7 жыл бұрын
I'm curious .... where do you store all those fenders on your boat? And, do you store them inflated, or do you deflate them during times of passage to store more easily? Yes, I indeed need to buy more fenders to increase my count of four to maybe 8 or 9 and buffer the boat on all sides when I leave it at the dock for the times I'm not there. An extra step, but I'd gladly pay the $200 - $300 for this type of solution in effort to not have this happen again! My lesson has been learned!
