Lived in DC for almost a year and I always got so excited for running errands. Just to see the amazing memorials and historic buildings on any type of commute to places in the district, you do not get that anywhere else.

What nonsense are you talking? I live in DC but also lived in London. DC’s historical buildings etc that you’re talking about are a joke in comparison to the historical buildings we get in the UK

Hey Amy. Really interesting to hear your perspective about DC. There was a time when Metro was really great. Trains had short headways on all lines (every 2-3 minutes on the red line!), there was service until 3am on the weekend, etc. It's really sad to me that an entire generation of younger folks might never know how good we once had it.

Like you could actually stay at the club until last call, and still get your train home. Those were the times.

It would be fun to see a vlog that’s “vlog as if you were on my close friends” and show where you would go in DC to a specific neighborhood with friends :)

love that idea!!!

@@amyrauch another great idea would be is to ask one of your local DC friends what their routine is in DC and follow their routine for a day. Maybe that’ll help you explore other areas of DC and share recommendations form another person’s perspective:)

I started watching you because you're a DC vlogger so I'm all for more DC content. :) I love the Library of Congress! Because I'm working on a cookbook, I was able to get a library card even though I live in Louisville, KY. If you can get a library card, I highly recommend "studying" in the Reading Room. I don't think you can take pictures but just to experience it is so cool!!! As a 51 year old, my advice for journalling is to keep a list of people you interact with. I wish I had done that at your age so I could now look people up on social and reconnect! My memory isn't the greatest with remembering names so I regret not having documented some of the people that were in my life through school, church, work, etc. Great to see you, Amy! :)

Just want to echo the rec for City Place!! I used to work around the corner and always loved going there for lunch. Still need to try Zeke’s, I’m not in the city as much now that I work from home but I’m sure I’d love it just as much as you do! And I’m also convinced that the awe at being in DC never fully goes away, it’s such an amazing and beautiful city! 😌

With you 100% on your feelings about DC. I live in the 'burbs and work in the city, and every time I walk by the Archives building or get a glimpse of the Capitol or White House, it's a small thrill of "Wow, how is this my life?" And golly do I miss the old-school metro that ran every few minutes, and ran well past midnight. Also, one of these days I will stop at Zeke's. It's a bit of a walk from my office, but not unreasonable.

Dating in DC feels like you’re in the twilight zone honestly, at least for me. I honestly feel like everyone thinks dates are job interviews and I’ve lived here my whole life so there’s really no job I haven’t heard of that I care to hear about again for the 1000th time 😅

I feel the same way. When I first visited in 2017 I was like, I gotta move here someday. And I got my chance in 2020 and I love every day in this city. I don’t want to live anywhere else. :) Oh and I’m car-free and have been since moving here. I do wish the metro trains were move often. If I really need a car I just rent one for a day. I do have an ebike!

DC (the entire DMV really) is literally known as "Hollywood for Ugly People." Way too many people in the DMV think they are attractive and successful. The truth is everyone in the DMV is average or below average looking (5s and below) and has a similar federal government position, works for an embassy, non profit, or is in college. This means they are the same and this isn't impressive. It doesn't matter... men, women, white, black, Latino, Asian, lgbt etc. It's the same average/below-average looking people with government jobs or jobs close to the government and believing they matter, have dating options, or they are Hollwyood movie stars. It is the most bizarre thing to watch. I'm in a relationship, but it's sad to watch DC and it has gone downhill. This is especially true since I lived in LA and NYC before and I've been around real 9s and 10s in terms of looks, careers, intellect, and success. Both men and women in DC are delusional and severly overinflate who they believe they are, which is why the dating scene there was always rough and people stay in the dating cycle, are constantly cheating, never getting married, or divorced. Just remember that the DMV has always been known as "Hollywood for Ugly People" and it will always be that way. Not sure why people aren't getting this or believe they somehow stand out from the rest.

Go on a „date“ with that waiter. Even if it’s just friendly. He seems fun, for you anyways 🎉 I need to add: no big forehead, and that vein pumps oxy in your brain and makes you think smart - it’s all good.
