Shane was born with a neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy that requires him to use an electric wheelchair. He is the author of several award-winning books, the President of a nonprofit organization called Laughing At My Nightmare, and a renowned public speaker who has performed across the country at places such as Harvard University, The University of Florida, The University of Connecticut, Princeton University, and many more.
Hannah is a senior at Carleton College, studying sociology and anthropology. She works as a researcher for an educational consulting firm. Her future aspirations include attending law school and owning a goat sanctuary. She films and edits the “Squirmy and Grubs” vlog.
Shane and Hannah have been dating for 3 years and living together in Minneapolis for a year. Their interabled relationship often confuses people, because much of society still cannot fathom people with disabilities being involved in loving, intimate relationships. Anyone who watches these episodes will quickly see their relationship is just as “normal” as any other. Sure, Hannah helps Shane use the bathroom and brush his teeth, but those activities do not detract from the emotional, intellectual, and physical connection they experience together.

So did my husband. He has asked if I really think their relationship is real...sometimes it's hard to people who themselves can't see doing something similar as it being a normal relationship.in reality, if you are with your significant other and say find yourselves with some accident or injury where you suddenly need help,someone's true colors will def come out. A little over a year ago I almost died and found myself literally bedridden until after I was in the hospital a four weeks and could start to stand n walk again...and it put pressure on my marriage whom at time had been 11 yes with my husband. Granted if he suddenly needed me like I had him I would not hesitate to step up. We knew a guy who(rip recently passed away)was shot in his back and completely paralized from waist down and barely had function of but one hand. His wife whom he had been with over 20 yes at time of his accident..began treating him bad and also took a younger boyfriend for herself and dared her husband to do anything. He acted like he understood but there's no way I could. He claims he was also hard to deal with mentally and had taken a lot of anger at his situation out in her so maybe for her it was too much...and "in sickness and health" had limitations...such as she decided being he was permanently going to be disabled and checked out of the marriage *****Cara

Just finished the book. Such an addictive and informative read. Shane has such a beautiful way of writing. I didn't realise but I had some bad habits regarding disabled folk prior to reading the book, such as being nervous to speak to somebody in a wheelchair because I wasn't sure how to act etc but that's all gone now. Hannah looks extra pretty and glowing in this video. Love the work guys!

I am all for adopting children (I'll take a dozen) and Shane & Hannah's relationship shows me that i could also give a home to a disabled child and they'd grow up to have a happy life, and all the challenges can also be full of joy. I knew this intellectually, but I'm so glad to have a real life example.
