I love that steamer for food. It looks like it makes healthier food. I also love how you discuss the differences in each other's cultures. Your meal time together looks so cozy. (Glad to see Ari is also cooking. She is also a good cook. The lunches look great) Love you both😊

In Japan, when you get new friends, surely will ask each other's age first to continue further discussions, because there are always using honorifics to respect the persons who are older/senior by youngers/junior in their society. SAN(先生)是前輩 versus KUN(君)是後輩
Jay and I eat very comfortably when it’s just him and I together :) Sometimes we mix the food to get the sauce on everything again! We don’t mind each other’s germs since we’re married haha. Jay is fine if I look more closely since he knows I don’t like pieces with chicken skin still on them. Of course I wouldn’t stir the food if we had guests eating with us!
Just a friendly reminder for Ari since we are on the topic of what NOT to do, try not to search for food with your chopsticks. That is a big NO NO for Chinese. Try to use your eyes to do the searching, and try to go for those closest to you NOT on the other side of the dishes. It’s perfectly ok when you are having dinner amongst your closest partner. You can do whatever suit you both. Have a good one on your anniversary!

never mind, since they are only couple eating together. What you mentioned is only necessary in case of big family when they eat together.

Of course I wouldn’t stir the food if we had guests or more family eating with us! ☺️
Here in California, you can ask people anything, CA is very liberal and open minded. If they don't like your question, they'll just lie to you and not be mad at you.

I've just tried making the pan-fried Tofu with your sauce recipe. It worked. Thanks Jay.
Jay speaks not bad English at all consider you’re coming from China. Where’d you learn your English? You just need to pick up more vocabs and their slangs so that you’re easily blend in their culture and conversations. I believe since you married an American wife and you get to speak English with her all the days of your life, you’ll be able to speak fluently with no problems!

Interesting how in the US personal facts are considered more private and sensitive, while in China (and a lot of other Asian countries I suppose) family facts are more private and sensitive. Never thought about it this way until you guys point it out. But it totally makes sense.

we love your videos. i would also love to try this speak only chinese for 24 hours challenge! my Chinese husband is not motivated to try lol. great observations about cultural differences i noticed this too. i grew up as a child around south Asian people and i think its just cultural to say out loud someone's appearance sometimes. its not so much a malicious thing as more a caring health observation my husband tells me. its just hard to stomach sometimes, the worst was when my Chinese mother in law commented that i was too bloated after having my first baby. i was like, Of Course i am! i just pushed out a whole human lol! sometimes people just dont think before talking too lol

I am Chinese and I don't like to answer these questions when I am asked by other people because it is my personal information and I don't want to tell others. It is true that in China there will be a part of the population that will get used to asking personal questions, but it is really something that should not be asked.
