I've always wished they could have expanded upon the history between Q and Guinan. She was the only person Q dared not cross, even with all his powers. Their two species obviously have history together. Possibly the Q might be a deviation branch of Guinan's people - the El-Aurians - like the Romulans are from the Vulcans? What if the Q are the El-Aurians' nasty little secret, a section of listeners who dared to become omnipotent, immortal? Remember, Guinan existed both in Kirk's time and Picard's without physical aging. And in the TNG two-parter TIME'S ARROW, we found out that Guinan lived or at least visited Earth in Mark Twain's time of the late-19th century. The El-Aurians and the Q share at least one trait - immortality.

Actually, I think they did drop the ball with Q in one way.... as he talks about choosing to be human and then that he should have picked klingon..... they should have made Q visit the enterprise as different species every time. I know they wanted to establish the character, but it seems to me that they made him a little bit too rigid in always picking the starfleet officer human. They should really have gone oput there and picked between a smörgåsbord of different entities, they could still have John De Lancie playing the part, just with different make up. That would have been interesting. ^^

Yes, but they probably didn't want to go through with the expense of the constant changes just for one character.

MetallSwede I personally think Q never was kicked out, nor had a real civil war, Q the omnipotence's just so happens to put Quinn a lock up renegade in a comet that just happened to fly right in the path of voyager??????? I think it was all a test, a ruse, he even tested Sisko, but seeing how easily he could manipulate Sisko wasn't worth his time.

@@jdb2002 Jeffrey Combs did it, I don't see why de Lancie wouldn't be able to. In DS9 he was both a Vorta and a Ferengi, and in Enterprise he was an Andorian. People would have recognized de Lancie's voice instantly no matter what makeup he was wearing.

@amcmr20036 жыл бұрын
they are human, and most humans can't control their instincts. q is not human, he has full memory of his identify and has just said he could have chosen any species, as long as they were mortal. So, unless there is not one species in the entire universe to which your assertion does not apply, then we could infer this wasn't part of his sentence. Hence I can only conclude he is not allowed to end his sentence short, otherwise he'd just find himself in another timeline where his suicide did not work. The best he could do is being reckless, which, to such a powerful being.. must be exceeeeeedingly difficult. : ) Sure, this is all just rationalizations on top of some script whose author would never conceive of such backgrounds. Nothing to take real life lessons from.

Q was such a great impact character played brilliantly by De lancie its hard to believe he only appeared in 6? out of 181 episodes. But he was there at start and end bookends just like the original star wars. We should be very thankful like the magic of the 4 in ABBA, never bettered, this group of actors, scripts and design worked so well and we have it forever to watch and appreciate. RIP Gene Roddenberry..

They were going to have him appear in several episodes per season, but it never worked out that way. I suppose the reason is because dealing with Q makes the rest of the galaxy seem like an ant farm.

"I could've been gone. No more 'me'..." - Q learned that this is the fundamental dilemma of our entire existence. Animals are, on the average, far happier than humans, because they do not have the necessary perception to imagine themselves in a state of non-being (until shortly before the end comes). But we spend the vast majority of our life pondering this fact and do all in our power to ignore it whenever possible.
