Can we appreciate how wholesome it is the way Data treats Q? Everyone treats Q with annoyance but Data is incapable of being annoyed by Q so he only reacts to his obviously unreasonable suggestions with naive patient honesty, but it’s to this Q can only respond to with an actual answer. Essentially Data gets the best and least destructive relationship out of Q because he’s the only one who doesn’t treat him negatively. Which was kind of the lesson Q was trying to impart before he introduced them to the Borg.

Data was perhaps almost as detached from humanity as Q. The difference is that he tried to understand them.
@ryanshannon77034 жыл бұрын
@@umbraemilitos Interesting, I never thought of that. I guess the punishment of Q being human was that since he was as detached from humanity as Data, only he made almost no effort to understand it, it took something[one] like Data to provide that bridge for him to begin effectively communicating with humanity. The best part about it though is that with Q being completely detached from anything resembling the limits of nearly all life forms, he was able to think, 'outside the box', to which LaForge was able to adapt his ridiculous idea to a smaller scale that was usable. I guess the moral of the story is that sometimes the completely irrational can make sense.

Q displays a very in-depth understanding of the functions of the universe. This scene is probably the best example of how his omnipotence actually works. He doesn’t just dream up a Mariachi band. He constructs human beings of Mexican origins from the atoms level up, plants the mental path ways in their brains to both know how to play and play for him, constructs them and his own avatar to appear on the bridge of the enterprise at the same time, with their instruments and starts playing. It’s why Picard saying to Q he isn’t God because the universe is not so poorly designed is bullsh-t. And why scientific explanations of how the universe works can disprove the existence of God (Not saying I believe but it’s impossible to disprove) because any all knowing, all powerful being is capable of not only designing the universes functions down beyond the atom level to work perfectly, but to make it appear naturally occurring and self sustaining as well. It also ties into the Q provoking humanity to evolve not by their technology, but opening their minds to new possibilities and improving themselves and their understanding of the world around them. They’ve seen the blueprints for creation, and can make changes on a whim.

I always had fun imagining what Dr. Crusher would think of one of us if we were somehow able to enter their universe in the future. I could imagine her abject horror at seeing my middle-aged (youngish for them) collapsing discs, healed fractures and breaks from a life of working. In her report to Picard she'd tell him that ancient Terrans were incredibly tough, how she couldn't imagine the pain but how it felt 'normal' to me, and that there were several issues of degradation that she was able to fix that in my time would have required what she'd consider 'medieval surgery' under the knife.

Funny thing: the gravitational constant of the universe has a very high margin of error. It is the least well known fundamental constants of the universe. Also concepts like dark matter would be obsolete if we could presume the gravitational constant not to be constant at every place (which itself is a dubious assumption) So, Q playing around with the gravitational constant could explain all this.
@Smokey2982 жыл бұрын
Everything is constant unless somthing is manipulating it. Gravtational force is not even constant across the face of the Earth. It is known that Gravity is affected by mass (or created by it) through the distortion in space caused by mass. Dark matter simply accounts for the distortions in places where we cannot detect matter. The gravitational constant is the extent to which space is altered by mass.

I haven't watched it myself yet, but the latest series has Picard and Q becoming good friends. There's one scene that will make you cry like a little schoolgirl.

Changing gravity doesn't change mass. Only how matter interacts

That's what they're trying to do - change how matter interacts.

Gravity is arguably not real anyway. More like a by-product of another force. Gravity is a VERY weak force in the universe. If you had a ten pound ball, you could pick it up in spite of the entire planet pulling on it. Imagine if that ball was made of iron and the planet was a magnet, could you pick it up? Gravity is a very weak force.

Basic knowledge of the physic of an orbital trajectory helps a lot too. At least a lot more than nitpicking about mass vs. gravity constant. Long story short change one or the other => problem solved.

I can't tell if the crew were just really good at acting annoyed at Q, or if they were having too much fun in this episode, or it was just really well-written (I don't think they were actually annoyed at John Delancey), but they all except for data to do a little too good of a job being annoyed at him lol.
