So do we know happened, did it derail, or, ?????? Nice catch, right place, at the right time.👌👍

No derail. I heard on scanner broken air hose. Never heard cause. I know they were there for about 3 hrs to repair.

The bad thing would be having to walk the entire train to make sure nothing derailed. The good is a taxi waiting to give a ride back to the engines.

Nice video! You can see the Autorack hit the tanker when it stopped. Crazy!

Yeah those last couple cars jumped a little, amazing really how fast they can stop once the brakes get on.

So how, if the air brakes are controlled by the air, opposite of a semi, does the loco apply brakes to the front half of the train? Since the brake line is pretty much straight through, wouldn’t the pressure loss be too significant?
@Southeastrailfan1234 жыл бұрын
I dont fully understand how it works, but if air pressure is lost, each car applies its brakes as an emergency stop. Once the problem is fixed Nd air pressure is again normal the brakes can release. It is interesting how it all works!!

@@Southeastrailfan123 kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWXRZIpnfLNkpqM Pretty good video on it here and how the 3 way valve works. Air pressure is used to apply the brakes, it comes from tanks on the cars. Air pressure from the brake pipe releases the brakes and charges the tanks on the cars.
@jasonw49324 жыл бұрын
Yes the airline would release from the head end of the train, but you also have what is a dpu dynamic power unit on the rear ends of trains as well that’s just another locomotive that could release from the end of the train equalizing the airline release from the head end and rear end of the train, normally you want the air from the head end released first to bunch up the train, if it was released too fast from the rear or all at the same time it would cause too much stress on the couplers essentially ripping the train into two.
@kishascape3 жыл бұрын
The EOT is also capable of dumping the airline from end so you can brake evenly across the entire train. That has to be done manually from the panel but is better than head only braking since less damage or chance of derail.

Might think about not having your headlights aimed in such a way as to blind the engineer when he goes by. Not cool.
