I'm participating in the Stephen King readathon when I'm able to! I'm also going to join in on Jake's Thrill, Chill, or Kill readalong when I'm interested in the book. Storygraph has a Storygraph Reads the World Challenge and they do 10 different countries each year. I didn't do well with it this year, but I'm hoping to focus on it more next year.

I love the idea of focusing on 10 different countries. Less overwhelm when it's a smaller number. I also like the idea of participating in the readalongs when you like the book. That's a better idea than I usually have, which is forcing myself to read all the books no matter what.

So excited for your 2025 Q1 planning! Love that you are taking more control of your TBR. The Google Sheet I made has spinner wheels (as you know) and every country has a link to a Goodreads list for that country ❤
@amara5602 күн бұрын
My doc only includes countries and constituent countries (with a few exceptions). No territories and random islands, cause I kept running into the same issue you had with Kiribati: no books to read for them.

That is awesome! I can't believe you put in links and everything. I can't wait to start using it!

The Bones Beneath My Skin by TJ Klune was self-published in 2017. It's being traditionally published under TOR in Feb 2025

I love the country and state wheels! Maybe I'm going to learn some geography by watching your videos 😂😂

Me too!! :) I clearly only knew the last two countries. I'm hoping to find more that I don't know anything about! :)

If you're looking for other options of books set in Virginia by an author who also lives here ... all the SA Cosby! 😍 I can't remember where My Darkest Prayer is set exactly but 100% Razorblade Tears, All The Sinners Bleed & Blacktop Wasteland are all set in VA! Blacktop Wasteland is set in Gloucester area where Jake's grandpa lived for many years so he had all kinds of comments and fun easter eggs in there when he read it! 😂 Razorblade Tears is set in the Richmond area & All The Sinners Bleed is based in a fictional county in the Chesapeake area! They're in like a ring around our city ahaha!

If I ever get a prompt that says read something that intimidates you, I'll be heading straight for Cosby. His books make me so scared because of the emotional trauma that I think I'll have to deal with to read them. Not any triggers necesarily, but just the heaviness of the topics. Anyway, thanks so much for the info about them. When I'm braver, I'll actually read one! :)

@@TheReadingandWritingLife That's fair 😂 they are pretty gritty and don't shy away from what's going on. I don't remember the characters being overly reactive or emotional about what's happening though so in a way a little detached (at least for my reading experience). You should definitely give one a go at some point, so good! 😁

I hope you like Dungeons and Drama. It reminded me of a 80s or 90s teen rom com. :)

I am bad about recommending books but I believe you read the first miss fortune book, longshot Louisiana and liked it. That is one of my favorite series so I recommend book 2, lethal bayou beauty (or whichever book is next for you in the series). I want to be Gertie when I grow up!
@TheReadingandWritingLife2 күн бұрын
Oh, that's a great idea. I'll put it on my list! Haha, Gertie is awesome!! ;)

I feel bad recommending books as I do not know what others will enjoy. If you enjoy satire I recommend Freida McFadden's novella The Widow's Husband's Secret Lie, it's a super short read and just silly. It made me laugh. If you don'enjoy satire but like spicy romance, I recommend Tessa Bailey's Fix Her Up.
@TheReadingandWritingLife2 күн бұрын
I like both of those things, so I'll add them both! Thanks so much!!

The Sex Lives of Cannibals is actually really great! The title is questionable, but it's a fun read

Lol I was reading reviews of the sex lives of cannibals and there is no sex or cannibals in it, actually it is about an American running to live out of "civilization", it actually sounds good...
