China gets arguably the easiest group of the tournament but could not score any goals throughout the group stage matches. That's sad.

1. *The squad* . China has one of the oldest squads in the competition, with only Lebanon (the same opponent in a similar group) is older. Given the age of this team, they didn't produce many creativities. 2. *Lack of trust of youngsters* . Surprisingly, Aleksandar Jankovic failed to realise that China has shown potential right back in the U-17 and U-20 Asian Cups last year. Although they ended up not making further, but they genuinely have talents, notably Tao Qianglong, Afrden Asqer, Mutellip Iminqari, Wang Yudong, Abduwali Behram, Abdulla Adil, Kuai Jiwen and notably Atletico Madrid's product Li Hao, whose performance back in U-20 Asian Cup in 2023 was so impressive that fans wanted to have him named on the squad. But he didn't understand it or get the message out. 3. *Serbia has worst managers in big tournaments* . Sorry for any Serb but I feel Serbian managers are having severe problems with managing teams in big tournaments, in particular recent years. From Mladen Krstajic's ill-fated 2018 World Cup run for Serbia to now Bulgaria's worst ever Euro 2024 qualification, Ljubisa Tumbakovic's failure to inspire Montenegro and his home country to play in big tournaments, Milutin Sredojevic's struggle with Uganda and Zambia, Goran Tufegdzic's failure with Kuwait, Milovan Rajevac (a rare Serbian success)'s most recent miserable experience in his second term with Ghana or his failure with Thailand, they have one similar pattern: they can't push players to play to their full strength. Yet Aleksandar Jankovic ended up adding his agony further with the way how he coached China. What's going on to China is bad, but the fact that Jankovic had no idea how to run this team severely tarnished images of Serbian coaches. Considering Serbia is about to play in Euro 2024, Jankovic's misery with China could soon be repeated with Dragan Stojkovic's Serbia.

1968 Republic of China was actually Taiwan 🇹🇼. In 1974 People's Republic of China took away the "China" designated name. But yeah, Hong Kong 🇭🇰 is actually better than the Mainland China team. However, even if this 2024 China had scored a goal- even against Qatar- they would probably progress as one of the best 3rd placed team. The likes of Oman, Indonesia & Bahrain are barely doing much themselves. Only 3 points is needed to progress, as long as the goal difference is at least 0. As for Browning, the guy was an Everton reject and played in the Championship lol for Sunderland. Yes, Sunderland, and he's a starter for China. A huge drop off from the likes of Hao Haidong, Sun Jihai, Zheng Zhi & Li Tie. Nico Yennaris has been riddled with injuries since his move to Beijing in 2019 and along with those Brazilian imports has done nothing to help. As for Taiwan (or "Chinese Taipei" 🙄), they are more fans of baseball and basketball. They don't even care one jot about European football. Hoping Hong Kong pull off a miracle tomorrow and give us a smile. Everton & Matt Orr would struggle to persuade an English League Two club to sign them, but the small teams are throwing the kitchen sink at this. Heck we have Sean Tse, an ex Man City trainee, and he works at a dry cleaning company in Salford near Manchester 😂. He plays in the 7th division. As for Qatar, when you have money, I suppose an easy route to quarter-finals was nailed on. That Al-Hayydos goal was a beauty, that’s a dub.

Taiwan WOULD be interested in football and the EPL if they had good players and were winning. That's it. EPL had little coverage in South Korea and Japan... Until they had players there, like Park Ji-sung and Nakata Hidetoshi.

Not gonna lie, Asian Cup would give AFCON, Copa America & the Euros a run for their money, if they had Turkey, Russia (I know why but that's besides the point), Armenia, Georgia & Kazakhstan participating, it would be tough to predict. And far more people would give a toss, since the BBC in the UK are not giving doing match reports, live updates or video highlights for Asia at all. Heck even Azerbaijan would add something to this cup, but that UEFA dough is too juicy to ignore with the Euros and Nations League to compete in.
@JJ-fb2lp10 ай бұрын
Russia might be forced to leave UEFA to join AFC because of the political reasons. On other hand, Turkey would never agree to join AFC unless of course, they are forced to.
@arijitsinha648510 ай бұрын
Yes add Russia and Kazakhstan Azerbaijan Armenian side to afc and let relatively weaker teams like india compete in oceania. This will make both asia and Oceania more competitive. New Zealand vs india will become a shoot out.
@diomuda790310 ай бұрын
This will depend. But Russia is currently banned and they are increasingly becoming more and more distant from Europe. Kazakhstan is still not willing or relinquish UEFA membership, but given their geography and growing accusation of Kazakhstan's authoritarian dictatorship using UEFA for whitewashing mission, Kazakhstan has recently agreed to play some football friendlies in Asia. In fact, they almost stroke a deal to play friendly with Qatar but later rescinded (before that, they have played against UAE and Uzbekistan). The 2023 Asian Cup was the first time an Asian Cup was broadcasted in Kazakhstan, showing that just how Asian Cup has grown, and just how worried Kazakhstani officials are with their country's fate in Europe increasingly uncertain.

I am currently in the US so I am paying attention to the Copa America 2024 instead (overall, fans would prefer watching Mexico over Iraq), but yeah China sucked so hard. Cannot score in three matches at the group stages? You have to be kidding me. The USMNT, despite the hype, is actually a mediocre team. But even then, you have to realise that the US is blessed by geography (don't face stern rivals except Mexico and Costa Rica, maybe Panama) and this geographical advantage was better utilised by the US than China; plus the US has greater connection to Europe, adding to the advantages. Still, I would admit that had China been in North America instead, they would have qualified for multiple World Cup. Canada, Honduras, El Salvador, Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba, and Trinidad and Tobago never prove competitive enough, though (although how did the AFC teams manage to lose all fixtures against CONCACAF sides back in Qatar is a mystery). You should remember that China isn't the only country with that issue. Japan and South Korea, also parts of the Sinosphere, have also had this issue for decades. How did Japan and South Korea do better than China? Simply put, they redesigned their education systems, which guaranteed that kids could choose their future without losing their academic experiences, and those who opt football for future will be supported. That doesn't happen in China, where the pressure of academic results lay a huge shadow on those wanting to seek sports as an alternative path. I would say that Son Heung-min, Takefusa Kubo and Lee Kang-in are as smart as their fellow Chinese academic students, but, because Japan and South Korea's flexible education systems, they can follow the dream they want to see. In my opinion, China's failure in 2023 Asian Cup will be a wake up call for the Chinese education system to redesign their system so they can provide space for young people that want to seek football path that they can be ensured of their future without losing their academics. You have to begin from the grassroot. Also, I am quite interested to see about two recent American football (or soccer) prospects on Chinese radars: Jonathan Klinsmann (son of 1990 World Cup champions and current South Korea boss Jurgen and a Sino-American wife) and Ted Ku-DiPietro. Will China call them up or not is a question to debate but they really need new fresh blood. In fact, China's only decent player in the Asian Cup is a naturalised half-Chinese (Tyias Browning), but this could be a game changer as it proved that players with half-Chinese heritage, if they are decent, can make it through. Jonathan Klinsmann's chance to represent the USMNT is increasingly limited when Matt Turner, Ethan Horvath, Drake Callendar and Zack Steffen are now firm, whereas China seems to be reliant on Yan Junling and is unclear of their second option.

Japan and South Korea are not considered part of the "sinosphere", but "western" if anything, with liberal democratic values like the west.
@luishernandezblonde10 ай бұрын
@@dannnsss8034 Politically, yes, they are parts of the Western world for liberal democracies. There is no dispute about which political system they aligned. What I am saying is not about politics, but the cultural sphere. The Dominican Republic is part of Latin American cultural sphere, yet it is not a football-crazy nation like Mexico or Colombia are - is such an example. Lebanon is part of the West Asian Arab heritage, yet it is not a football country like Jordan or Saudi Arabia. You should have distinguished what "political sphere" and "cultural sphere" is.

If you think China's poor form is that shocking, I think the next thing will even shock everybody: Argentina, current world champions, will play China in a friendly this year, in March. Given this poor performance, I think China soon try to rebuild quick and try to find way to avoid humiliation to Argentina as soon as possible.
