loquat are an invasive species. The seeds germinate easily. If you spit a few out into your yard, you will have a tree in no time. Every year, my loquat tree drops seed, those seeds germinate, and new trees grow.

I have a couple of loquat sprouts, I may need to move them into a smaller container (currently both in 1 gal) my question is as the colder night temperatures approach (2500 elevation AZ) any ideas on keeping these sprouts going or safe through the winter (currently pots on the ground in backyard)

My first loquat are ripening….the anticipation! Almost orange, almost soft…..two trees, definitely planning on more!

@@qctropicals last year they let all the fruit rot on the tree, I’m going to ask them if they’ll let me harvest the fruit for them for a small fee of a take home basket lol

This is the last week of August. My fruit are finally at their peak in flavor. Completely sweet. In June, they were a little tart.

If you say you should use fresh seeds from the summer ... and that you should not propagate them until the spring... What do you do with them all winter??

I started watching your videos mainly for loquat tree since I was planing on getting one and now I have one, however I struggle to find videos on how to best prune loquat trees. Is it better to leave it as a bush style tree, open center, central leader, etc…?

they naturally have a round canopy. So, pruning is very minimal with these trees.

Great video. Just obtained a very healthy 5gal loquat(from seed) after first purchasing, and killing, two cuttings, and two smaller seedlings. I am determined to get loquats! I didn't relize how difficult(impossiable) loquats are to propegate from cuttings as there are a number of videos that claim to have done it without any followups to show progress. Not sure what your thoughts are on that sort of thing, but it would be nice to have a video out there warning people about the risks/futility of rooting loquats from cuttings.

My loquat finally fruited this year and I have to say I’m really disappointed. It did not live up to the hype. The taste was so bad that I’m considering getting rid of it or at least trimming it back and only growing it for the medicinal leaves.

fruits will not taste the same every year. My loquats didnt taste their best this year due to the inconsistent temperatures. Give it another season or 2 before making the final choice. Also, loquat is not ripe until it's soft to the touch. If you eat it and it's firm, it wasn't ripe.

There are better/improved varieties. Loquat are some of the easiest to graft onto. Buy some cutting of popular varieties and graft on your tree
