Do you recommend her using a giant tv in a bedroom for a laptop. pc and ps5? Or would it be better to use a monitor with hdmi 2.1 that is excellent for a ps5 and a Dp for a pc. It is also faster and easier to react in fps when you do not have to scan a large TV sized screen. As for the personal attack on how I raise my daughter. hmm. your name says it all.

I love glossy glassy OLED. The picture quality, contrast is 2nd to none. Even QD-OLEDs use the blurry grayed out mess of a screen, ruining the perceived picture quality. All things get old and break. If anything, it gives you a reason to go out and get the shiny new OLED, when your old trashy tv/monitor should be thrown out anyway. The picture quality it too good to ignore. If you really have burn in problems, just get another one. They are cheap right now

With a lot of people now working from home, it's actually really useful having a USB-C connector on the monitor with support for DP alt mode, PD with enough juice to power a laptop and preferably also USB hub functionality, so that you can just plug in your work laptop with a single cable and easily switch between your home/gaming system and the work laptop. Automatic input switching is also nice to have (looking at you LG). Not saying all monitors should have this, but it would be really nice to see more monitors with both gaming and productivity features.

Only reason I can think of to cap refresh rate to below what your monitor is fully capable of (taking into consideration it's full capabilities like you mentioned) is for consistency from the GPU. If the 5% lows are too low, that hitching can be incredibly distracting and annoying, so just capping the refresh rate to what your GPU can handle with the game can keep such bad performance from being so jarring. I'm thinking about Callisto Protocol, very recent game runs like garbage on many PC set ups.

19:15 Pretty sure the answer here is getting 4k, 1000Hz + pixel response time to match that with full HDR capability in a ~24-32in monitor is pretty much the goal. We might see a resolution upgrade to be slightly beyond 4k (2880p maybe) but I doubt anyone is going to care about 8k in the monitor/desktop/laptop space.

A question I constantly have when watching reviews is "Is there any way to know if monitors of the same family as the one reviewed behave similarly? So, for example, the 32" version if you reviewed the 27" one? or maybe the white version of a black monitor? or the curved version of the flat one?

Thanks for taking up my question-glad to hear your thoughts on it! I do agree that USB-C cables can be quite convoluted given the amount of variation of capabilities a cable can have without any obvious indication of those capabilities; I wish there were more specific indications on the cables for the capabilities they were rated for. Would be nice as cables usually just get bundled up and put away in a similar location without labeling while also tossing away the original packaging, in my case at least. My question was formed from seeing the AMD reference models for the RX 6000 series having a USB-C display out. It was also formed while thinking about surpassing the need for a hub/dock for devices like tablets, phones, handhelds, and thin laptops that only have USB-C ports since most of them are relying on USB-C to output a display signal but monitors usually don’t natively support USB-C for display in. Having this feature on monitors would drop the need for a hub/dock and be more simple with only one cable if you’re only looking to get a display out from the device. Anyway, glad to hear your thoughts on this question and on the many other questions you answered in this Q&A session. Will definitely like to see more of these in the future!

I was very confused to pull a USB-C to DisplayPort cable out of my AW3423DWF box. It's so short it won't reach my tower so I just used my regular DP to DP cable. I'm wondering if I'm missing something by not using it since Dell went to the lengths of including it.

regarding single Overdrive, if the monitor in question does not have a single OD setting. if your monitor is 240hz or more than you can in fact turn off Freesync and you wont see any Tearing. i tried this going as low as 40ish fps. my monitor (gigbitye m27 X) has it turn off so i dont have to deal with any over/undershoot at any Refresh rate.

I ended up getting a aw3423dwf to replace my fried Asus PG27UQ (rip). Kinda validating to hear that you're gaming on that display as well lol. I do miss the 4k and the peak brightness, but the contrast, colors, and semi gloss coating on the Dell are the best I've ever seen, and the hit to resolution and brightness are a little offset by the ultrawide aspect ratio and qd-oled technology

For the questions about where the monitors will go in the future - I completely agree that all of the areas that you mentioned have a massive room for improvement. However, none of the things are easily marketable like "4k" or "240 Hz". Do you expect the industry at large to move towards more strict certifications and standards in order to differentiate their newer and improved products? For example, in 5 years your average buyer will see two monitors with "4k 240Hz HDR10" on the box and think they are exactly the same.
@MagiofAsura

Hdr already has the displayvesa certification so there already is a range of "hdr10" monitors ranging from we are hdr10 in the sense that it accepts the signal but does nothing to effectively display it to displayhdr1500 monitors that can beautifully blind you when you look at the sun in game with WCG, 1000+ zones, and a stupid high contrast ratio.

ICC profiles tend to introduce color banding even on properly dithered color gradients (I think it's because the ICC profiles don't change the response curve of the display, but simply changes the color signal to trick the display into outputting more accurate colors). Is buying a monitor with perfect out-of-the box accuracy the only way to get accurate colors without banding, or is there more "low-level" way to do calibration?

So I just ordered a MAG274QRF QD (it's in hot demand) as soon as it came into stock for 350 usd, and using a 50 dollar gift card to cut it down to 300. I feel great about my purchase still despite not having the 240hz I still like the numbers the QRF QD puts up. Not playing nearly as much fast twitch as I used to play, so now I love the more demanding 1 player stuff but I still mix it up. I can give it to my nephew in the near future anyhow. 13700k/3080 12gb/6400 ddr5 here so I have room to stretch. I'll save the change to 240hz for another day. Just pulled the trigger an a cheap Samsung U28R554UQR (28", 4K, IPS, 60Hz), it was on sale for €200 (incl. VAT & shipping). As I am not really gaming, I deem that thing enough for my needs. Beyond the occasional game of building cities and societies and the like I consider it out of the ordinary to play a round of some shooter against some bots... I'll put that thing to use in CAD, without the need for absolute color accuracy. Otherwise it'll only see office and mostly the web browser with some YT clips in between. Considering what I otherwise work with (15.6" TN, 24" old TN and newer VA, all 60Hz) that is still a humongous upgrade. I was totally blown away when I unpacked it and set it up for the first time to check for defects. Forgot to mention: It will be fed mostly by Intel IGP or AMD APU, low tier dGPU at most.

It's all about the frame/pixel visibility time in milliseconds, that's exactly what mprt is. on sample and hold mprt = frametime in ms blur reduction tech like backlight strobing or bfi is reducing frame visibility time without having to increase framerate+refreshrate.

I've been holding out on getting an OLED because of the prices being north of a thousand, thinking I could never get one that fits my budget, but I recently got an LG C2 at a discount for 900. Now I can't go back even if I have to get another one for more than that. I hadn't realised how much I disliked having a backlight until I experienced those perfectly dark blacks, infinite contrast, and extremely wide viewing angles that come with OLED.

I am fine with MiniLED, they can keep improving quanity of dimming zones, but it's already pretty good with the Neo G8. Until they get better text clarity, and don't use dimming protocols to protect burn in, OLED/ QLED is not fully viable for 24/7 PC monitor. Also none can do 240hz 4k yet either.

I personally lock GTA (or more specifically FiveM) to 60 fps for fair racing. On PC GTA, higher fps still makes your car faster. Hopefully we get whatever update was done to the PS5/XS release so I can let it run at 175 or something (would be nice if the engine limit of 188 was gone to so I can do 200+)

You can get a display port or hdmi to usb-c adaptor and also dp to usb-c cable's. I'm using them on my Samsung 28" 4K so I can connect my Asus rog strix laptop with a dp to usb-c cable to get the max refresh rate as well as my RX6800XT PC to my LG C2.

It's so handy to just be able to plug in with one cable and get access to video, audio, charging and also connect to any attached peripherals though. Very handy to be able to easily switch my M28U between my work laptop and Steam Deck for instance. Neither will fast charge as the wattage isn't high enough, but it's good enough to keep it topped up for general use.

Are there any companies with plans to implement microLED as a FALD backlight for a LCD panel? I'd imagine that building, say, a 480p, or 720p 32" microLED display is substantially easier than building a 4k 32" microLED, and if you used that 480p/720p microLED as the backlight for a regular IPS LCD panel, you'd effectively have a FALD IPS monitor with ~300k to ~1m dimming zones, which in normal viewing would be practically indistinguishable from OLED.

I just bought a punch of parts for my first ever pc build, a 1440p gaming rig. When getting down to choosing the monitor I didn't like the ips glow / low contrast of ips and don't want a curved VA and have to compromise motion blur and have a curved screen to achieve contrast. LG announced this new monitor for me specifically, coincidences do not exist. This thing will sell like hot cakes , hopefully the longevity and build quality is decent at this intro price point. LG know this market is there and salivating. Smart play.

I went from a 27" 144Hz TN (very good for a TN panel to be fair - Dell S2716DG) to a 32" 1440p 170Hz IPS (Acer XB323U GP) about 18 months ago, and more recently I switched to another 32" 1440p 240HZ IPS (Gigabyte FI32Q-X) due to the Acer unit having terrible scan line issues. I thought the extra screen real estate would be enough (or significantly better) for having multiple windows open when creating content/learning new skills and doing work, however, I now wish I had upped to at least an ultrawide screen in size/resolution, though, of course, the graphics horsepower required is more significant, especially in scenarios where FSR or DLSS are not available. Having to Minimise a window while watching something in order to make an adjustment say when learning something new, e.g. when using some design software, becomes tiresome very fast. That is where another 32" screen or ultrawide/4K monitor would be ideal. As for the picture/gaming quality when currently using a 32" 1440p screen, however, I find that to be very good.

They're pushing up against the physical limitations of copper, it seems. The usb-c cable I use to connect to my M28U monitor is a little under a meter long. If it was longer then it would either not offer the same bandwidth, or it would have to be a hybrid electrical / optical cable which drives up the price significantly. My hope is that eventually, optical connections become part of the usb-c standard, then cheap and extremely high bandwidth cables with long runs would be possible.
@rodhester2166
@rodhester2166 Жыл бұрын
@@liamness Agreed. Hopefully optical takes over. For now work doesnt require as fast of response time ect.. Today, USB-C can support various data transfer rates, from 0.48Gbps (USB 2.0) all the way to 40Gbps (USB4, Thunderbolt 3, and Thunderbolt 4). Things are only about to intensify, as today the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) published the USB4 Version 2.0 spec. It adds optional support for 80Gbps bidirectional bandwidth as well as the optional ability to send or receive data at up to 120Gbps.

As long as the OLEDS have horrendous burn-in issues(which they objectively do) + insane brightness and color degradation in less than a year with normal use, LCD's will be relevant for quite a long time. There's a reason samsung abandoned OLED tech, sold it to LG and now use some of LG's(old samsung tech) OLEDS just to keep with the hype train. As someone who has tested over 100 gaming monitors in the last 5 years, as of this point in time MiniLED/FALD monitors are HIGHLY superior to OLEDS(not in contrast but in longevity and they are close enough in contrast and color quality).

for me 27" 1440p is too blurry by now after i got used to 27" 4k. It was even before, hence why i made the jump to 4k on the monitor, in 2019 i think. the next upgrade will be 4k@240hz 32" IPS or OLED monitor. i also don't think that we will see oled push lcd panels aside in the near future. a good IPS display has it's benefits, in part i actually like the colors more than on the oleds.

What i really want is a cheap 4k 144hz monitor with good HDR that won't take away from my GPU budget. I know that i can't afford a GPU that would allow me to game at 4K. Best i can get is most likely going to be a mid range AMD card from their next gen release when ever they plan to release them. The thing is that i use my PC for all my media consumption though. I don't own a TV. So watch Movies, TV, KZbin etc on my monitor. Since most content is moving to 4K, it would make sense to move to 4K as well. At the same time though. I don't wanna pay $1000 to get decent HDR performance and would most likely have to turn the games down to 1440p on the monitor anyway to get decent frame rates with the GPU that i plan on getting in the future.

Standby was a factor for 2011 Samsung TV, went with LG G2 55'' 4K, 40% off £1,400, over LG C2 55" 17% off £1,080, so I will see how good OLED is that way before deciding on a monitor.
