Nice review! I don't think QDPL gets enough love. It outperforms most funds in the space for total return. If it can gradually grow its distributions over the long term (like the S&P 500) then I think it's a winner.

Thanks brother I really appreciate you reviewing the ETF. I really respect what you have to say and I like the Way you break things down. You’re a good man. At 60 yo I really like the income, safety and total return on QDPL. Love that it’s not another covered call ETF.

Own and continue to buy & DRIP this ETF. Tax efficiency, dividend rate & growth are primary drivers for me…I’d love a lower expense level, but am willing to overlook the current level to receive the aforementioned items. Good review…thanks!!

You mentioned COWZ at the beginning. For what seems to be its goal, it provides a pathetic dividend. Pays quarterly and the amount is low.

I agree with your overall feelings. I like that it works differently than the other CC funds. But I stick to BALI, GPIX/GPIQ, JERQ, etc due to the lower exp ratio. I feel over long periods, the 0.60% will be a drag on performance.

if it was 35 to 45 bp id consider it just to smooth out the vol in the portfolio but it looks good always looking to add something similar but different to the books

The fee seems to be "practically" more like 600BP when you consider the big ballast allocation with no value-add 🤔

Interesting etf... thanks for sharing something new. If you don't need the income, then just stick to the sp500 since it has a higher total return, plus I think its more tax efficient (both appreciation at long term cap gains rates, and taxes on dividends). I assume the total returns comparison is based off 100% dividend reinvestment, which means you have to pay the taxes out of pocket... so you'd maybe get stuck paying more taxes on reinvested dividends and get a lower total return. Let us know if you pull the trigger! Thanks!
@wealthadventures3 ай бұрын
I think this would be best for someone that wants to use the income now from the distributions. If not, just buy the S&P. The taxes on the distributions should be minimal while holding it which is attractive.
@jmcole563 ай бұрын
Thanks Dave, I like everything about this fund in your description, however I am not familiar with how the futures work for this. My question is, how does this strategy do in a falling market? Will it move similar to the S&P? Thinking of replacing my Divo with it.
@wealthadventures3 ай бұрын
Hi. I would expect it to follow the S&P500 fairly closely.
@hansschotterradler37723 ай бұрын
Surprise, surprise; QDPL closely tracks VOO in terms of total return. QDPL's total return accounts for the return of capital and reinvests it back into the S&P. As you mentioned, the slight underperformance is partially due to the expense ratio. I'm still intrigued as an income investor. This should go into a taxable account IMO.
@wealthadventures3 ай бұрын
I think it would work well in a taxable account.
@LivingonHighYield3 ай бұрын
If they can make this a monthly distribution (just take the quarterly payout and split it for next 3 months), then there would be a lot more people investing even at this expense ratio (there is just too much monthly competition) Income investors want their income at a bare minimum in todays environment at a monthly rate ( some are now even paying weekly), so quarterly just isn’t appealing to income investors.
@wealthadventures3 ай бұрын
I can wait! But I do think that is a factor for some folks.

perhaps no options, but there are futures contracts. both are derivatives. different, but both have similar risks, no? i am still interested but i am mindful of derivatives.
@wealthadventuresАй бұрын
Most option based ETFs cap your upside with short calls. This one does not do that so it attacks the problem of "income" differently. I think the main risk would be from dividend cuts.

Buying dividend futures contracts; so there are (presumably smart) counterparties who think they are getting the better deal by selling these contracts. I guess the sellers are identifying companies who will most likely be cutting their dividends then offloading the risk on this fund. Seems like a lot of counterparty risk here.
@wealthadventures3 ай бұрын
Stripping off dividends to create dividend futures... There is a lot of info on it if you go looking. I don't think there is counterparty risk. I see it as one more way to hedge risk. www.cmegroup.com/articles/2024/equity-index-dividend-futures-a-primer.html
