This is actually really interesting. You could perceive this as being a universe where time is in reverse. Basically how we In our universe travel forward in time ultimately leading to the end of the universe and time which is a natural event. That universe's natural direction is backwards to the dawn of time and it's big bang.

I would think they are going forward, but we, the observers, are opposite, and so we see it backward. Who knows how interacting with this timeline would affect us or them

There's an episode of Sliders about exactly that. Every episode they travel to a new dimension trying to find their home. One episode, they found themselves in a world where time moved "backwards". A lot of people recognized them when they got there, and they saw themselves on a newspaper before they had even done anything. By the time they were about to leave, no one seemed to know them anymore because everyone except the main characters thought they had just gotten there Edit: might not remember everything right. I haven't seen Sliders since I was a kid. You get the gist though

The mix between things being backwards and forwards is really interesting. For example, he dials the phone before he speaks to someone, and if he was fully moving backwards he would have hung up the phone then talked then dialed, which means that there is a linear order of things in this universe, to some extent.

A few notes: - in order to avoid necktie look like it is removing itself on its own, you could instead do untying with you hands never leaving it, giving the impression you directly put in back on, and plus, if you were willing to go further, some trickery with wire could make the motion of picking it back in reverse much more natural and mindfuckery. - for the cuts, instead of doing blending or trying to make an invisible stitch, you could use a glitch effect where for a split-second you show some hidden/creepy bonus scenes/states of the room, ideally respecting (or replicating) the current room state at that moment for bigger mindfuck - rotating the paper stack at the start was a mistake I think, it should have been rotated from the start, giving the impression the characters reads words naturally in this state
