Wow, Gosoku-ryu karate is incrediably similar to shotokan karate, the deep stances, the long movements and the kata ! im very surprized by this...

Early in his career his told his students that it was Shotokan. He later changed the name as the style was tweaked and adapted into his own. But technically, it was Shotokan at its core.

Tak Kubota is hard to describe in words. I studied under Jim Mather, now a 9th degree Black Belt trained by Tak Kubota. In the 70's our higher ranking Black Belts (not me) trained with Kubota. When I asked how it was to kumite (spar) with the Master the common response was "it hurts when he hits you and it hurts you when you hit him. What I found amazing about the man was I stopped by the dojo at noon during the week. Kubota was there early preparing to teach the class.

My dad began training with Kubota when he first opened his dojo. 1964 or 65 I beleive. He trained with Kubota thru his 4th Dan before moving away in 1988. The stories he has about this man would blow your mind. He was one scary talented SOB.

They say there's always a tougher guy waiting around the next corner - around the last corner waits Soke Kubota. And after u passed that guy with a shotgun and instantly get killed by Chuck Norris.

When Chuck Norris got out of the Air Force, he trained with Soke Kubota to learn how to use his hands.
