For those unfamiliar Maul: Lockdown was penned by Joe Schreiber, the guy who wrote Death Troopers and Red Harvest (the Star Wars zombie books) Maul can't use his force powers because he's on a secret mission in a prison ship and forced to fight in gladiator duels with other inmates. He definitely takes out his enemies with his own hands instead of using the force and it is BLOODY. Iirc, he busts out an aqualish's tusk and uses it to stab him. I think he puts him down by snapping his neck. It's been awhile.

It can be argued that they do feel fear - Dooku once said something to the effect that although Yoda taught him the whole fear -> anger -> hate -> suffering lesson, if you persevere and pass through the suffering, you can achieve ultimate power. This is why Temple Jedi (prequel Jedi are also Temple taught Jedi) are the best in terms of choreography. The Bokken Jedi (as we saw in Ahsoka) is more loose and paced. I loved all the Qimir vs Jedi fights in this it was like watching Phantom Menace again!

It's obvious this episode won over a lot of people for the reasons we all keep mentioning. But something else I really appreciate about The Acolyte is not just how Qimir isn't so susceptible to plot armor. Unlike in almost every other case, for once I actually came to like the main characters. For once I feel like Osha and Mae are just, like, normal people. As a kid Osha wanted to be a Jedi, left, and then was happily a normal mechanic. She wasn't unsatisfied with life until heroism was thrust into her life. And neither does she fool herself about typical trite Hollywood tropes. She was pragmatic enough to communicate with Yord and told him to kill Mae and rationally chooses not to trust the person who, to her perspective, is the only proven murderer. On the other hand, Mae turns out to not just be a typical edge lord. Her change of heart in this episode was not just unexpected for Star Wars, but it was genuinely hilarious to me. Finally, a main character who realizes they can survive by just going to the authorities (even if it didn't pan out lmao). And you can see what I'm talking about in this scene too. Unlike every other Star Wars where one of the characters isn't a Jedi, Osha and Mae don't have some gimmick that lets them stand toe-to-toe with Jedi just so they can be included in the exciting fight scenes. Instead, these two noobs are basically hiding the whole time, which is the only thing a normal person in this situation would do. Of course from that perspective it was disappointing when Sol didn't execute Qimir, but I can forgive them for that I guess you still need to have something resembling Star Wars' themes in Star Wars

Thats the problem that Dooku highlights in current canon much later down the line, Jedi don't practice enough for Lightsaber vs Lightsaber combat and he got riddiculed on it. This is an era where lightsaber to lightsaber combat is rare. Hence why Dooku can defeat many Jedi except the cream of the crop. Cortosis is still nice to see in action. I've read it in books and comics so much that seeing it now is like 'practical and cool.'

Agreed completely, a lot of people at first judged this show about Jedi not using their lightsabers as often as they did during the clone wars. But the key difference is that this is literally a time of peace for the most part, there’s plenty of Jedi and the republic is doing well. A huge theme in even the prequels is that the Jedi have grown somewhat arrogant overall and maybe not always handle things perfectly

I think this is the second time the showed a physical neck snap on screen. The first was when vader was one handed choking a rebel soldier until his neck broke.
