@@DatBoi127 Well, not to be too against the grain, but was the phrase 'red lightsaber' ever uttered to the Coruscant Jedi? Far as I gather, and I've only first hand seen the last two episodes, they know Mae is being trained by a non-aligned force adept,but we the audience were the only ones to ever see the lightsaber. So if they kill off Sol and no details ever make it back to the temple, it's going to be just another unsolved mystery for the Jedi archives. It's still a monumentally stupid thing to do tho, for a Sith who professes to want to be able to do his thing and have an apprentice to then risk discovery by sending (or allowing) his apprentice out to kill Jedi.

So out of everything, the helmet/bracer being able to deflect lightsabers is the least offensive. That is actually something that was in Lucas era Star Wars. The utter disregard and just straight up disrespect for Darth Plagueis by Disney SW is honestly sickening. Without him, there is no Darth Sidious/Palpatine and therefore no Darth Maul, no Darth Tyrannus, no separatist movement, no Clone Wars, no Empire, no Anakin (!) and ultimately no Skywalker saga!! The very things that Disney piggybacks off so much. Plagueis killed his master, his master's other would-be apprentice, and every other force-sensitive being who wasn't already a Jedi whom he thought may pose a threat to his plans. In his guise as Hego Damask he even befriended JEDI MASTERS to maintain his secret and stay on top of things. Why would he let a lone Sith who doesn't even identify as part of Bane's lineage run around corrupting or killing powerful Jedi? Nevermind Plagueis, why would his own master Darth Tenebrous allow that? The Acolyte apparently takes place 'nearly 100 years before the events of the prequels', which themselves take place about 3 decades before the Battle of Yavin. So Plagueis, probably an apprentice at the time (and according to his own words would be well over 100 years old in human years by the time he meets Palpatine), and Tenebrous would very much be alive during The Acolyte. You see what happens when you want to make Star Wars but disregard everything to do with it smh.

This show is a MASTER CLASS in bad writing. 1) They attempt to set up the idea that those giant tree bugs were attracted to light. They also (probably unintentionally) set up that light sabers produce a LOT of light since Yord uses one to see inside the dark cave. But then while the entire throng of Jedi and Sith are using lightsabers the giant tree bugs are just like "nah, we're good", but as soon as Mae turns on a tiny led flashlight and conveniently glues it to Darth Teeth's back, the giant tree bugs are like "yea, now we're talking" and attack him. It's like the writers are not even aware that they have to be consistent with their own writing. 2) There is such a lack of character development that is almost seems intentional. Yord dies in literally the EXACT SAME state he was introduced as - a lame male character who is rigid, corny, unsure of himself, and is absolutely incompetent without the help of a stronger female character. Jacky or whatever her name is does a better job than him, so his arc is inexplicable in the negative, he dies being less that what he had already not been able to become. It almost takes skill to be that bad at writing basic character development. 3) Apparently the Sith would have been a good Sith had the Jedi just let him be free and express his dark force without restriction. He isn't a bad character, he was just oppressed. Brilliant 🧐

To be fair to “Darth Mandibulous” over there that armour isn’t actually a concept they just pulled out of nowhere. They are metals in the Star Wars universe, that can actually short out lightsabers. Cortosis comes to mind, as it was integral to Darth Bane’s origin story.
@BoraHorzaGobuchul3 ай бұрын
This is so silly. I can understand the physics is not something that plays a big role in SW, so they can get away with making up weapons and armor with various properties willy-nilly, but even if there's a metal that for some reason is completely impervious to anything one would assume it would see a wider use at least in the military.

@@BoraHorzaGobuchulCortosis has a unique property in that it can absorb insane amounts of energy (Lightsabers, blaster bolts, plasma drills, etc). So, let me get this straight: Smylo Ren wanted Mae to kill the Jedi, so he himself stays hidden and to test her, but at the same time, he provided the tools for the job as Qimir, got caught on a stupid bait by the Jedi, and when Mae turned herself in, he decided to kill them himself because what, Mae might reveal his true identity even though she didn't know it? Simply brilliant writing, Leslye.
@karatos3 ай бұрын
Yup. And Mae found purpose in doing the tasks for the guy that calls himself a sith, and those tasks by some huge coincidence is attacking the very Jedi she hated most from her youth, but when she found out her sister was alive she no longer wanted that purpose and didn't want to hurt the Jedi so she decided to turn herself in so she could be with her sister again. Then, when she turned herself in she.... changed her mind? I guess? And no longer wanted to make peace with the Jedi? So she hurt Jedi and resisted, causing some to be killed. And she also no longer wanted to be with her sister, or even keep her sister alive, so she abandons her sister alone on a hostile planet and... goes with the Jedi? And the motives of the other characters are even worse.

To be fair about the helmet, metal material that shortens out lightsabers like cortosis have been a thing in Star Wars lore since the early 2000s. It's just that cortosis was supposed to be something that was very expensive to mine or refine into anything useful. It's been a known thing since the days The Old Republic, and when The Clone Wars started the Techno Union (as part of The Separatists) had the money to process it. But Anakin Skywalker personally put a stop to it. So in lore it would make sense for someone in The High Republic to have cortosis armor or something similar. It's just the sort of thing that you need to *explain* to people before presenting it and confusing them.
@Orapac41423 ай бұрын
Or you know... hear me out, you introduce something as a surprise for the general audience and a treat for lore nerds, and then explain later. Dont need to have an exposition about every item in the show. Otherwise we could say they never explained how stun blasters work in the show before showing it stun people and other dumb shit. We have plenty of shit to complain about, but this isnt one of them. Now if they NEVER address it then you can complain - because at best they just thought it was cool and lore nerds can at least rationalize it, but thats not great story telling (which TBH is a real possibility with the rest of the bad story telling theyve been doing)
@Andres-ip5so3 ай бұрын
I believe, if I am not wrong the last time that it was ever recorded a cortosis blade was some months after order 66 when Vader thought Obi-Wan was spotted, but instead it was a trap by some surviving jedis. Still is known well in the Star Wars community that cortosis is something not easy to obtain even with a bunch of capital like the Separatists had. Which bring us to another fact, the Separatists indeed were about to lose the war it was just a matter of time due to spending on a lot of expensive military operations like the Malevolence or the mining of cortosis which in the end it either were destroyed or sabotage.

And if you do know the deep lore of Star Wars.... why is Ki-Adi Mundi even alive at this point and how did he forget about all this 100 years later when it was really important? This is a show that both demands you know more about Star Wars then the writers, and will punish you severely for knowing more about Star Wars then the writers. Then insult you on twitter for pointing this out. So yeah, the problem isn't so much that you can headcannon this stuff away, it's that you HAVE to headcannon it away because the show is just that terribly constructed.

The issue isn't that cortosis or whatever alloyed form it is in is used. It is that the writer's didn't give it an explanation in the story and this is one of the few things that should have had a small bit of exposition to explain it. Think like when Obi-won explained a lightsaber to Luke. A simple solution (provided by EBN last night durring their recap of the edisode): Lightsaber hits helmet and shorts out. Jedi 1: "oh no, cortosis" Jedi 2/padwan: "what's cortosis" Jedi whatever: "it shorts out lightsabers, everyone avoid hitting the helmet" Or any variation of a conversation like that. Short, simple, and tells the audience what it is and what it does and why the jedi should be wary of it

It's super stupid, though, that they'd use it here without either foreshadowing it, or providing some kind of explanation, or at least making it a main plot point. I suppose the next episodes could deal with it properly, but I'm not holding my breath.

If only we had a character challenged to kill Jedi without a weapon who could have been exploring options to level the playing field while adhering to the letter of the rule. Writing will only get worse as the years progress. People actually had to go on adventures in the past. It was normal to know people in your life who fought in wars, traveled to far away places for weeks, survived harrowing experiences. What do writers know about the range of how people react in situations if they never experience anything besides film/tv writing that came before them? The point about Master Squid Game and the clearly other twin sibling leaving without burying anyone is spot on. As people watching, it is unconscionable to us that they would leave without collecting the bodies and weapons of their comrades. What does some insulated elitist writer, who has never experienced loss in battle, know about how they would react or what they would do? TV and movies used to be a version of reality with fanciful additions. Now TV and movies are based on TV and movies with barely a thread of connection to how humans actually interact in the real world.

He was wearing Cortosis armor. A very rare material that is similar to Beskar (aka Mandalorian Iron) but can absorb massive amounts of energy to the point where a lightsaber blade can short out from constant contact. Darth Vader fought an assassin using a set of twin swords made of that material in a comic once. He was caught off guard that the swords could block and deflect his lightsaber strikes until his blade shorted out, but then Vader just resorted to his old faithful “FORCE CHOKE” to put an end to the fight. I’m surprised they actually thought to bring that up.

For a show that tries to deny the extended universe exists its funny that they used the exact properties of Cortosis. From Wookipedia - Cortosis was a metal that had a very high energy absorption rate and transmission coefficients, which allowed even the energy of a blaster bolt to be dissipated upon contact. One of the strongest minerals in the galaxy, cortosis could even withstand the blow of a lightsaber and briefly short out its blade.
