Hi Gary, would the TVS-672N (the non thunderbolt, 5Gbe i3 model) support the same memory?

I upgraded my RAM with Crucial 32gb in my TVS-672XT a month or so ago, along with the CPU to a I7 8700T and installed some NVME SSD's. Now the NAS keeps freezing, the LED on the front is unresponsive and i am unable to login as the browser page won't load and Qfinder can't find the NAS on the network, does anyone have an idea if the RAM could be the problem? The model number i am using are CT2K16G4SFRA32A

Hi Gary, thx for the video tut :} excellent work. however a few things perhaps to include tips to ground self before handling electronics. myself i am prone to creating static electricity, so example if i touch a metalic door handle this releases a spark. it's certainly not good to handle electric components when that occurs. so probly ground self prior to handling electronics including ram? also when handling ram, try hold it (grip it) on both corners, without touching the contacts and the electronics on the ram itself (unless it has like a heat spreader, thats ok to touch).

All great tips! I used to live by this especially when I lived in an area prone to static. I even have a grounding band. I'm just lazy and love to live on the edge haha!

Gary, I heard you say that you have the TVS472XT and wondered if you had thought of the cpu upgrades I’ve seen before on KZbin and if so what would you use? And would you use the same speed RAM? Sorry I’m trying to pick your brain 🧠.
@GaryCruzDotCom4 жыл бұрын
I haven't considered the CPU upgrades since I mostly use the 472XT for Plex and it's been handling my 4k files with no problem. It just doesn't handle 4k Remuxed Blueray that well (but I don't use those since they are about 60+ gigs each!)

just curious, if u suspected it was bad ram causing random reboots (which is a possibility), did you at least run the memtest to verify that? I know at least one qnap user that despite running the tests did not detect ram fault. Yet when he replaced his ram with new ones, the problem went away. So based on that, even if memtest does not say there is a fault, there is still a chance that is still a possibility to fix it by replacing ram. Unless it's a different reason that is causing the problem. I had troubleshooting random reboots, it's a bit hard to figure out sometimes :/

Bad news and Good news. I started getting random reboots. I turned off the M.2 SSD cache - and I haven't had any so far. I just found it odd that my TVS-472XT with No M.2 was not crashing and would stay up until I rebooted it. I'll post another update since my TVS-672XT is currently going through a 10TB RSYNC to a new TS-251D.

@@GaryCruzDotCom did you try 4.3.6 does that solve the issue?

Ainz Ooal Gown it actually started rebooting again after the latest firmware update.
@AinzOoalG0wn4 жыл бұрын
@@GaryCruzDotCom so no issues with 4.3.6? if so probably best to downgrade to confirm that. if no issues, stay on 4.3.6 until they fix random reboot issue related to the one that began with 4.4.1 If your random reboot is still happening even on 4.3.6, then it's ram or something else. can't really help you if it's this unknown reason causing it :/ By the way 4.4.2 got pulled, no idea why. oo you can call me Ainz or Ainz Sama. the full thing is a mouthful ain't it ^-^; hehe. Or Moogle, as i'm known on the qnap forum works as well.

@@AinzOoalG0wn Hey Moogle, I have seen your topic on the QNAP forum. Wondering if you have the random reboots since 4.4.3.1354? I just upgraded to 4.5.1.1456 a week or so and just got a random reboot.

@@GaryCruzDotComnever had one. they are heavy and out of my budget, laco and other small family owned watches are my preference, i hate those apple things buzzing in your wrist but i understand why people like them. i just upgrade my TVS with a 32 memory, a 1tb M2 and a NVIDIA 4gb video card. trans coding by hardware on plex all day long.
