Qodosen DX-286 on MW and biggest display flaw

Perfect for those weak LW and MW signals on telescopic whip antenna when outdoors. There's no portable competitor who could beat DX-286 on that. Stations from Asia and Africa in Europe can be easily received. LW NDBs around Europe also.
To do some serous DXing you need to be outside and use whip antenna for LW and MW reception as it gives more gain than internal ferrite loop stick. Whip antenna picks all interference from its display (not backlight). When turned off - problem solves itself.
But now again it is real pain to push those two (number 1 and 2) buttons all the time. Some proper shielding could properly be done inside to solve this problem.

Qodosen is aware of the RFI caused by the display, and I’m certain it is why the display can be disabled when necessary. What’s concerning is that the RFI varies in severity on a unit to unit basis. By the way, there are to methods by which to disable the display. The first is to press the 1 and 3 keys simultaneously as the radio is playing. However, any adjustment made to the controls reactivates the display and the RFI as well. The other method is to switch off the radio and then press and hold the 1 and 3 keys simultaneously until the display reads “DIS OFF”. Then switch back on the radio. The display will automatically disable itself after a second or so. Any adjustment made will reactivate the display, but it will disable itself after a second or so. To shut this feature off, switch off the radio and press 1 and 3 simultaneously until the display reads “DIS ON” On my DX-286, the display-induced RFI seems to happen mostly when the whip is used and especially so when the amp is on. Of course, disabling the display eliminates the RFI caused by the display.

Thank you for the information about automatic disable option. Didn't knew about it. As every time 1 and 3 combination is a little bit annoying. And yes, interference in caused mostly by the whip antenna when switched to external for LW and MW bands. SW no issues thought.

Find an old Sony ICF-2001D and do some mods to it and you will find it will out-perform the Qodosen. Done lots of testing and the Sony now beats the Q

Obviously Sony ICF-2001D is better overall quality receiver. I own 3 of them, but with today's technology it's hard to compete. Biggest advantage of new radios is switchable filtering instead of fixed. It gives superb selectivity.

Do this interference from display appear only with telescopic antenna or with internal ferrite and external antenna too?
