I fell down the Jacob Collier rabbit hole over a yr ago. You should check out some of his videos that explains how he does all this stuff (they're very lengthy tho). He plays just about every instrument made (😉), but he's all about harmony. His live stuff is nuts too. He can teach music theory with ease and beyond! He's won a few Emmy's too. Quincy Jones and Herbie Hancock are big fans of his. That's crazy!! 🤪

Yup, l am totally blown away by Jacob. My daughter got to see him in concert in Montreal and turned me on to him. It was a blast watching your reactions!!! Lol. The guy is a genius!!! That wacky rhythmic bit near the end of the 2nd verse which you had a but of difficulty identifying is not so much an Indian rhythmic pattern as just a very clever bit of metric modulation (I think...?) The lead and backing parts (for sake of argument let's call it Tenor 1+2 and Bari 1+2) stay in the rigid 4 with some off-beat patterns, but from the bar starting 'Let's ride...', the bass part has 5 over 4; the next bar it has 6 over 4; and the third it has 7 over 4 - giving the effect that the tempo appears to be speeding up when in fact it remains exactly the same!! SO CLEVER 🔥 (apologies if I haven't explained it clearly haha)
