I'm currently loving these short, aesthetically edited, and impactful videos! A quick takeaway- Willpower = sustainability. It is supposed to be the foundation that complements the other self-improvement efforts.
@Des_.2 жыл бұрын
Willpower doesn't work. It's literally just motivation and the end of the day....and we all know how much the mind loves comfort and safety. Every thing you do (want to change) should fit into your new lifestyle. Like for losing weight...removing junk food from your home. Taking a slightly longer route to work where there are lower amounts of fast food stops. Riding your bike on the weekends. Or starting even smaller like having your lunch break at a healthier restaurant as opposed to McDonald's. You don't need tons of will power for that. Start small and build up into big lifestyle changes. I for one don't want to rely on how I'm feeling tommorow or the next day to ensure my goals stay met.
@RM-rf8ei2 жыл бұрын
@@Des_. But isn't willpower needed for self-discipline? Also, willpower is relative. There's no fix point to which you can measure each task/decision. Taking a longer route, eating healthy foods- even the decision to start making changes begins from your will to do it. 😊
@Des_.2 жыл бұрын
@@RM-rf8eii agree with you, willpower to an extent is needed but relying on it is where things fall apart.
@lunar6862 жыл бұрын
@@Des_. something that might be super useful is that willpower doesn’t technically exist. Unfortunately it’s the belief in ‘willpower/motivation’ that lets most people down in any behaviour change attempt. Completely agree that small steps is the best possible approach. The other thing is to make it easy and define it clearly....for context, the moment we get tired/grumpy/sad/frustrated/distracted/run down/hungry/bored/fearful....well any emotion that isn’t baseline content and ready for action lmao, then whatever people mean by ‘willpower’ is not going to work. Basically we will always take the easy option as our brain is designed for efficiency in any given state. For example if it’s 11pm after a double shift and your tired and hungry, your brain doesn’t want to figure out what you mean by ‘healthy’, has lost the prefrontal cortex function that controls future time perspective, and the grelin hormone system is now active....if you don’t have a healthy meal option preprepared then you will be getting fast food lol....interesting side note is that the feeling of ‘motivation’ is a ‘cognitive’ state of ‘positive’ arousal, which being only ‘cognitive’ is not linked to action, and also in positive states fails to take into account obstacles as it’s not activating the part of your brain responsible for accurate danger perception.....apologies for geeking out a lil lol but thought it’s an interesting side note to mention that if your feeling ‘motivated’ your using the wrong part of your brain for achieving behavioural goals lol. If you want to make a behavioural change that lasts, define the goal clearly (as in SMART goal setting, not a concept lol), break it down into super easy steps, make sure you have the resources to do those steps and it can also help to reward yourself until the behaviour becomes habit.

What does that mean
@thinking-ape64832 жыл бұрын
One thing you neglected to mention is incentive. All the people who maintain discipline and looks are quite literally getting paid for it. Vague ideas of maybe getting lucky down the line are not sufficient to maintain perpetual motivation because eventually the tank goes empty. This is true of just about every human being. If there is ultimately no reward then or an unpredictable reward at best, then motivation falters and fails. Vague ideals do little to help with this.

Incentive is difficult man. I've been on self improvement for 4 years and sometimes, especially at the beginning, I had to live off of the expectation of a reward that never came. I still stuck to self improvement tho because I believed in myself, maybe even irrationally. But now here I am, with a clear goal in life that I know I will reach some day. I rarely falter, even though I'm still nowhere close to my goal. For me, it's about this: don't hope to get lucky down the line, know for a fact that you will achieve your goals down the line. Cause if you don't know that, you're completely correct: incentive is insufficient.

When talking about discipline another important thing to keep in mind is a lot of people aren't lazy but rather have the opposite problem of overworking themselves in every area of their life. Sure they can change their posture and adjust their sleep patterns, but they can't afford the bigger game changers. At least not in the USA, I'm unsure of other countries. Corn and soy are subsidized to hell and back. You can say getting X ingredients and cooking will give the same cost as quick meal and be healthier, but it requires time to do, a luxury many poor people do not have. And even if you scour through all these "cheats" and dieting secrets for cost effectiveness, the reality is you will still get more food for less money and less time by buying processed foods. Corn sugar is in everything with added sugar unless it says otherwise, soy is in every cheap high protein product. feeling inadequate compared to a supermodel isn't a "victim mentality"-it's because you're a human. no amount of will power will make you satisfied if you're comparing your lifestyle to someone like kim kardashian, who's incredibly wealthy and is detached from our reality as average people. diet culture is so engraved in us and the rise of social media makes it hard to feel attractive when people are fad dieting and using filters. i ultimately don't like the message this video sets out because if you're struggling with body image you aren't at fault. body dysmorphia is deeply rooted in feeling inadequacy: one that no diet will fix
@destall2 жыл бұрын
It is a victim mentality if you let it stop you from ultimately achieving a position you want to be in. Body image is far more characterized than being intelligent. If you are apparently unattractive, it is not the fault of others for finding you unattractive. Attribute your self worth to something that makes you above average, instead of something that you want to be above average.

@@destall I think they're saying that refusing to try to improve in anyway is not the same as feeling despair that you can't reach the same level as someone else. I agree that it's not fair to call feeling inadequate as only victim mentality as it minimizes the discrepancies that exist. Trying to achieve certain things under the illusion that you just need to workout or eat this, use this product, when in reality it can be down to simple genetics or money is bad and should rightfully be acknowledged. Obviously there are things individuals can do that have an effect on their level of beauty but it is not always as simple or achievable for everybody. I agree with the video that a lot of it does come from lack knowledge but I think it's irresponsible to suggest that everyone has access to said knowledge let alone the time to acquire or use it. People also forget that there are people lucky enough to not have to put in work to achieve such high beauty standards and I think it's fair to be jealous of those people. Personally I'd rather somebody have the goal to improve their overall lifestyle than to achieve what may be impossible for them and never get the satisfaction they desire.

Is perhaps sunscreen gonna solve their problem? 😂 Plus some of his advice, like intermittent fasting has been proven to have negative long term effects. while this can work to an EXTENT , i kinda disagree with the video. to say that we are ugly because we have a victim mentality, and because we dont have willpower is just not true. you can lose weight, sleep right, eat healthy, put makeup on and have a cool style but your face can still be deemed as "ugly". celebrities arent pretty because they have will power; its bc they have money, photoshop, professional makeup artists, personal trainers, plastic surgery and genetics play a part. not to forget, people are born naturally "prettier" or naturally "uglier". i dont like the victim blaming acting as if your ugly because of your own faults. yes we can all makes small differences in our appearance by putting in the work but that's not the end of the story. if we want to feel beautiful its more of a psychological shift if anything, you have to think you're beautiful. idk, but as a person with body dysmorphia i found this video a little bit damaging. telling people that they are not attractive because they dont work hard enough is a little off. its like saying youre not rich because you dont work hard enough even though WE KNOW that rich people are rich because they had help with money and by exploiting people. ALSO the beauty standard is unrealistic and could not be achieved by most people, what even is beauty anyway? its better to just look however you wanna look , dont care about standards. its okay to be "ugly"!!!!

I mean, he even said that ghrelin and your own body makes sustainable weight loss more difficult, and then implies fat people are complicit and lazy. I was blessed with a fast metabolism, so suddenly I, as a thin person, am not? I think that as long as you are being healthier and focusing on yourself, looks aren't as big of a deal as this channel forces you to believe. okay, it affects how you are perceived to an extent, but ugly people still get jobs at the end of the day, and can feel happiness, as beautiful people feel sadness. I don't think it reflects poorly on a person if they aren't doing things 24/7 to improve their appearance or their lifestyle. (of course that doesn't mean that you should never improve) This channel almost?? correlates looking attractive with being a better person,and that leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
@TheDka12 жыл бұрын
I agree with you to an extent, but I do agree with the video to an extent as well. I'm sort of in the middle of your two views; I agree that genetics will play a large in role how good you look and it's not conducive to the mental well being of the majority of people to blame their lack of attractiveness on them lacking will power or control. That said, is there more people can do to improve themselves? Certainly, and that's a hill I'll die on. I'll use myself as an example; I'm relatively short and facially average at best, however I'm also overweight and there's definitely more I believe I can achieve in life job wise. I want to be a better version of myself and whilst how facially attractive I am is for the most part out of my control (I don't think mewing works for 30 yr olds), I can lose weight and I can work to acquire skills. Both of those things will probably increase my attractiveness (not only in terms of dating but just in general). So I'm sort of the mindset that there's definitely more people can do to improve themselves and I think it's not bad to suggest that. And truthfully a lot of people are lazy (myself included) and do blame other factors instead of looking inward. But it's all about balance; it's not always the individual's fault for the situation they are in (and certainly there are those dealt a bad card and it is definitely not their fault), but at the same time people do have to take responsibility and ownership of atleast trying to improve and I don't think enough people do. Just my 5p though and I could be wrong.

I hate how people assume that the reason why one is ugly is due to their weight. Some skinny people are incredibly unattractive. Lean = attractive is the stupidest equation. Whenever someone complains online about being unattractive, everyone tells them to lose weight. That is so stupid because, in most cases, these people who are complaining do not have weight to lose. I cannot tell you how many ugly people I have met who were thin and fit. It all boils down to your bone structure, in particular, your facial structure. Not only that, a lot of people look WORSE after losing weight. Not better, but WORSE. They also look older.
@koanzx12 жыл бұрын
yea and guess why we have so much shitty bone structure. Because of the soft shitty foods we "chew" or better word we swallow in a few seconds i guess. Also breastfeeding going so much down when it is wonderful because of a higher nutritional value than powder baby milk, and it also teaches the baby how to swallow correctly. If you have kids, please make them a favor and learn all of these for the good of their facial development
@viletoxxie2 жыл бұрын
its just harder to see someone’s true bone structure if its covered by a lot of fat. but people dont get that someone’s face can just naturally be chubby and there’s nothing they can do. they could also lose the weight and find that their bone structure is dogshit, but you cant know that if you haven’t exhausted your options yet; losing weight, going easy on sodium and drinking more water if the problem is water retention, etc.
@tarcisiasiniscalchi66412 жыл бұрын
@@viletoxxie I agree with you, but I absolutely hate this tendency that people have to ascribe everything to being overweight. A lot of people have lost their excess weight only to find out they look older than before and are still ugly nonetheless. I definitely agree with many things you said in this video, and I see the point. However, let me say that being obsessed with our looks and the practices in order to improve them, might have a negative effect on our self-esteem and confidence, and consequently, our attractiveness. Also, let's note that dieting, for example, creates a permanent state of stress in the body, which is a danger to physical and mental health. So it's questionable whether losing a few pounds is worth risking actual diseases and a shorter life time, but obviously this is a very nuanced topic.

Being completely in control of your life is something many arent fortunate enough in accomplishing. Fixing habit is an advice i wish i was lucky enough to implement in my life earlier. Being with a controlling-abusive partner takes a heavy toll on your looks too. Also stress of not being enough or successful according to everybody you know- that is just a wide open window for depression and generalized anxiety disorder to creep in.

Partly true. But apart from losing weight, dressing better, grooming etc, the changes you can do to your lifestyle after the growth is complete are insignificant. Im a dentistry student and we also study orthodontics in depth. Correcting mouthbreathing and other parafunctions like incorrect swallowing, postural defficiencies, what type of food you eat (hard/soft), all these things wil make an impact if you are growing. If you want to change these things and you are 25, you can do it but it will not make much of a difference and orthodontic treatment and orthodontic surgery indeed are very expensive.

For most cases, the sooner the better. There are a few instances where theres nothing you can do but surgery (like severe mandibular prognatism) and you have to wait for the growth to be finished to do surgery. But mostly, the sooner you detect things like mouthbreathing or the kid is placing his tongue between teeth when swallowing, the better. Id say that 20 is pretty late for things to change significantly, but there is still some potential.

@@throwawayaccount4398 it’s only a problem while you are still growing. Your mouth needs to be closed and the tongue touching/pressing on the palate. There’s room to expand the conversation here. Here’s speaking to what else is not being said: There’s a seeming behaviourist paradigm underpinning the message. While not invalid, it is equally not the only paradigm in thinking about the human condition or human psychology. The risk coming away from the video is that we the viewer may assimilate this sense that it’s “our fault”. A voice in the viewer saying, “Look there are all these free resources, things you could have done but why aren’t you?” The sense here is locating what’s wrong to be woven into the person. If they are not taking action, if they have not achieved, they aren’t achieving, they are not worthy. Look at the models and the people who have achieved, they are the only ones considered worthy. I offer a different reading - there is no “victim mentality”. It’s not “your fault”. It doesn’t mean one defaults into passivity and cannot elect to for example, reconcile and restructure one’s relationship with ‘food’. Rather, it’s holding an understanding that shouldering total and whole responsibility for the matter is neither wholly virtuous, nor the only way. It’s understanding that there were and are systemic factors. Recognising the magnitude of these contextual factors, feeling disempowered or discouraged is not pathology. I will suggest that it’s normal. It’s why we’ve banded together throughout our histories to tackle our greatest missions. You can seek help from an understanding ally who can come alongside these experiences. So called “regression” is also not a pathology of the individual or a unique individual failing. I offer anyone reading my comment, who feels what I’m speaking to, an idea I’ve mulled over for years - that there is a difference between ‘beauty’ and ‘good looking’. That they are separate qualities. One could be a ‘beautiful’ person but not considered ‘good looking’. As well, one could be deemed ‘good looking’ but not ‘beautiful’. Over the years, my sense is that ‘beauty’ touches on the way we move through the world. In eastern philosophy, there is an idea of an “inner depth”, which I think dovetails with my sense of what ‘beauty’ is. You are invited to explore and find your own sense. What is ‘good looking’ is centred on the valuation of physical appearance. In delineating these two ideas, I believe it creates space to tweak and play with these two dials independently. To create a more expansive way of being.

I love the main message of this: development of self control and don't let anything become an unhealthy obsession. It is so important but we do forget it so often. But ALSO: As cliche as it sounds, self-discipline should, above all else help lead you to becoming a better person on the inside, not just a good looking one. Ugly or beautiful we can treat others as we ourselves would want to be treated. We easily make all the wrong things idols in our lives, to our own detriment and to the detriment of others. I am seriously satisfied right now and I see more men attracted to me and they're attractive ones so I guess my looks have to be at least OK now. The message about discipline works for the body to a certain extent but not the face. Your face is largely unchangeable without drastic measures and a lot of money. Kylie jenner did not change her looks that much by munching on carrots and hitting the gym. She's had a multitude of surgeries/veneers/fillers/botox etc which ordinary people don't have access to. What would this video say to a young girl watching? You're not atttactive because you don't try hard enough?

You'll notice that at 6.02 "Things that work: surgery" is put on the screen quite clearly. You are creating a strawman argument that the video is encouraging people to improve their looks by eating carrots and weight loss, when they are just two examples of improvements that most people can relate to and commonly have excuses against. Using surgery as an example would be a no-brainer, because obviously surgery works. The face is largely changeable, by surgery, orthodontics, dentistry, dermatology and therapeutics. You make the judgement call that it is 'largely unchangeable' because you are not aware of just how changeable it is. Your own example of Kylie changed her face, it was not easy nor cheap, but it was done.

It is better to change your environment then to rely on willpower. Your willpower is finite, and eventually will fail you, but if you remove the things in your environment that require you to use willpower you avoid the problem entirely. I'll provide an example: You are trying to lose wait. You tell yourself that you're not going to eat any of the candy, chocolate, ice cream, or snack foods in your pantry. You tell yourself that you'll eat vegetables instead. You are constantly tempted by those foods, and eventually you give in. Now, if you had thrown away all of the junk, and taken out the garbage, then you wouldn't have had the option. No option, no need to make a choice, no need to rely on willpower. Then you can save your willpower for times when you can't alter your environment. Such as grocery shopping. You then use your willpower not to buy the junk food in the first place, and continue to keep your home free of junk food. Of course we can't always exert full control over our environments, but the little things add up. Places like work or school are more difficult to subsist in, but not impossible. Save your willpower for when you need it!
@lovvesickrose55932 жыл бұрын
I do agree with you about having no option to some extent, but I think it's better to have those things around you to train yourself and strengthen your willpower instead of avoiding things and keeping your willpower at the same level, but you still made a very valid point that has benefit as well! :)

I was expecting to get some secrets on how to grow taller post puberty from the video. LOL. I guess being grateful for my body by 1) practicing positive mindfulness, 2) practicing healthy life style (diet and exercise), 3) adopting skin care and grooming, and 4) adopting some fitting sense of style should and would help to optimize what God has blessed us with.

The best thing is not giving a flying f**k about what someone else thinks about you specially your looks. Do what you want and don't compare your looks to someone else Im ugly and I accept that fact now I live peacefully just trying to improve other aspects of my life

@@Juan-yj2nn good point but pretty sure my recessive chin is something that mewing could barely solve, still I will watch videos about doing mewing correctly to see if I'm doing anything wrong, but even though I get to correct my recessive chin, my general face shape would still be bad (not a cute nose, general assymmetry, big forehead) so step by step

I am retired, 20 pounds overweight, used to be considered quite beautiful when young-but now feel much more attractive than in my younger days because I have done a lot of inner work and am finally at peace with myself. So it’s all about the energy !

great video. the style aesthetically (zooming in more, colorful designs, short video clips in the background). i’m not sure if this is a new or recent thing for Qoves, but it seems so to me. if that is the case, i’d love it!

6:03- I don't know if praying should be included in the does not get results category. While this may be true for the average person (who would probably just spend an average amount of time/effort praying) this may not be true for say a Buddhist monk. They seem to benefit greatly by prayer and other forms of meditation.

What an interesting video!! For me, the simplest way to explore my philosophy on beauty is this: beauty is health. And health is beauty! Having clear glowing skin is a big indicator of health, just as shiny hair and a white smile or a fit body. When you focus on your health, beauty will follow.

I can really recommend intermittent fasting. I'm on meds that increase my apetite and I'm from an obese family (my antuie was bedridden due to her weight) so I've had hunger so bad I felt sick when I wasn't eating every hour. But now thanks to intermittent fasting, which affects hunger hormones, I have normal levels of hunger and it feels amazing!

your mental health drastically improves when you improve your looks for two main reasons: 1. You look better - improving thus, every area of your life. 2. the work you put in - as people we should strive for something and when we witness the fruits of that work, it has an exponential positive effect in your mental health.

Great video, I can agree that even though a lot of my facial aesthetic issue come from my bone structure, I haven't been doing what I can to improve. While I've always been skinny, I could definitely do with more muscle. And while I've don't have the best jawline, getting a beard through minoxidil could likely improve my facial aesthetics.

I love being average /lower than , I don't really obsess over things such as looks and how others will see me. It takes time to accept and love yourself. Also take care,don't forget to take care of yourself,sleep,diet,social relationships,etc. Love yourself by taking care of your body and mind,don't get lost on stuff you can't control. There's always a limit,everywhere. Value more your mental health. On your death bead you most probably won't think I was a was more good looking. You'll miss your loved ones and farewell them.♡☆
