What I love about these videos is, I get to stop them, practice saying them, start the video again, stop the video, write my notes. I have repeated three lessons, and have taken a multitude of notes. Prior to each lesson, I go back, read each aloud, form new sentences, and make sure I'm doing this correctly. I told my husband I'd never spoken much more than si, gracias, and "donde delor?" horribly butchering the question but patients understood it. That was about the sum total of Spanish. So this morning I broke out in multiple conversations with ... none other than myself while going through notes. My husband says ... "That sounds great. What are you saying?" I laughed and said ONLY MY SPANISH TEACHER & I KNOW FOR SURE. I've been listening to Spanish radio, picking up a few words you've taught here and there. Great teacher. What I should have been able to learn in 4th grade, I am now actually learning at age 66. ¡Eres el mejor profesor de todos los tiempos!

I hit the "like" button for this video. To give you an idea of where my level of Spanish is Paul my streak on "the game whose name may not be spoke" is number 590. That means 1.6 years on working every day learning Spanish. Some of the material presented in this video was great review for me but that I already knew. I would like to say that you are making some really great total beginner material here. I can see that you are thinking about your frame, and where your hands are it it. New challenge, think about your eye contact. Right now you are always looking at the camera. This might be a challenge, but a cool trick you could use is to "look at" the text you are showing on the screen or even gesture at it. I know it's hard. The text on the screen is not really there, you add it in artificially. So to look at the text on your screen would be a little tricky, but you are discovering a real talent you have for screen layout that you started to learn when you were working in cartoon format. Like I said this is a great beginner level video! Keep up the good work. Another Spanish language channel I watch featuring Ana just went over a million subscribers. She had to work eight years to get there, but you have some real talent and more and more people are going to find this channel. Keep up the good work!

I enjoy your sense of humor, they make the lessons fun. For me, yes these are a review which quite frankly are a good thing because I find that my biggest challenge these days is remembering what I learned ages ago. That brings me to a lesson I had near the beginning of my language learning adventure. I hope people are keeping searchable notes (that's my #1 tip). This lesson took me back to a lesson brought up and that I had early on regarding hay vs estar. It took me a while to get it. So I wanted to share only so others may be aware of the different uses. Using HAY when you are referring to non-specific and using ESTAR when referring to specific. ¿Dónde está el video? I'm asking where is the video, meaning a specific video so I used el. ¿Dónde hay un video? I'm asking where is a video, not a specific video so I used un. I have a question which is at a more advanced level so please ignore if just learning this concept. Quite frankly it's a note I took some time ago in a class. I want to point out that even as we move through the learning levels confusion pops up when unexpected. Aquí hay dos problemas: está el problema del dinero y luego está el problema del tiempo. There are two problems here: there’s the money problem and then there’s the time problem. [teacher translation] I understand the "hay" because it's saying 2 problems but not specific, and I understand está because it refers to each specific problem. I might have used estar because of using hay but why isn't it SER. Is it because the second part is explaining what the two problems are specifically? Could it have been state El problema es dinero y el problema es tiempo?
@QrooSpanish2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rosemary You always have an eye for the details of the language. Your example with the problems got me thinking how I use HAY and ESTAR together and I think it comes down to whether a definite article is used. To say that HAY refers only to the non-specific is not exactly accurate but it is how we often describe it beginners. Take a look: Hay fresas en la nevera. Las fresas están en la nevera. Both discuss the same strawberries, and even location. The difference is the definite article. Your example follows that pattern too: Aquí hay dos problemas: está el problema del dinero y luego está el problema del tiempo. I am running through different sentences and scenarios in my head and this seems to be the pattern. At least this is how I have been doing it.

I would suggest taking notes of the constructions and vocab that you find nost useful and then reviewing that. Practice makimg your own sentences using the cognates and constructions. Fuera can mean outside of something but it will be used with the preposition DE. El gato está fuera de la casa. The cat is outside the house. El gato está afuera. The cat is outside. Fuera is also used in some expressions like COMER FUERA - to eat out. ¿Quieres comer fuera? Do you want to eat out?
