Nice video Walt, thanks. End feds are strange in that sometimes they need a counterpoise and sometimes they don't. I suppose it depends on the type and length of the coax. You were sensible to have one packed, just in case. Best 73.

I home built an unun from the instructions for this antenna and run that as my main antenna, with just a wire strung out the window. It does not need a counterpoise but grounding it properly sure reduces noise. The original does not have a convenient way to do that but I recommend it.

Have you tired your G90 at 20 watts with the QRP guys end fed? They say the end fed can run up to 25 watts SSB. Great location - my old Navy ship spent some time at the old Portsmouth shipyard back during the 1960s. 73 - N1KRB.

Hi Matt! Wow this is an old video and I'm glad you liked it. I would highly recommend you finding a good small portable End Fed Half Wave. I've used several different ones and have always had success. Maybe just get a good 49:1 unun and 66' of wire and build it yourself. Thanks for watching! 73, Walt K4OGO

Hi Walt....I wonder why you didn't use a 1/4 wave wire if next to salt water. 16ft 5inch would have meant good low angle take off from your vertically mounted wire on the pole. Anyway you did well on the 5 watts well done all the best 73 de Ken G4VZV
