Squidge is the best "amateur" rugby analyst out there. Even those of us who have played and supported rugby our whole lives have to pause and rewind his analysis, lol. Although the final was a low scoring game, it was a brilliant masterclass of best attack vs best defensive team in the world and the oldest sporting rivalry in the world! Go bokke and respect to the all Blacks🎉🎉

The one thing this Bok team has had for about a decade now is a real brotherhood. It’s one of the best teams, in the true sense of the word, ever. Spirit, belief, determination, heart and absolute grit. They’ve used this to overcome more skilled players and teams. That’s the magic of Kolisi, who is not the most talented player in his position, but he’s the heart and soul of that team and they would do anything for him and each other.

This is why rugby is great...It is plays evolving with the motion wthin the moment. There are so many variables and ebbs and sways. The fact that the final score was by only 1 point shows how the crucial plays were really crucial. AB's had their chances but the Bok's with their simple but extremely focussed gameplan denied the AB;s of the the clinch moments....To add the AB's had two players sent to the bin which added to the drama. They could of still won it with the the oppurtunities available...but they didnt. Players still on the field ? It might of been different but it wasnt. Well done SA. You did what was required ....just :)

Hey mate, loving the videos. Video suggestion which I think will get good views: Jonny Wilkinson - definitely englands most famous, and probably our greatest ever, player. You should watch his highlights and also (this is a bit different) check out a Guinness advert where French people talk about Jonny. Context: Jonny played in France and the English and French have a certain love/hate relationship. The advert is really good because it takes A LOT for a Frenchman to speak so highly of an Englishman. You really get the sense of what a legend and a hero he was.

Also what makes rugby union an epic sport is that, yes the players have planned with the coaches and get messages sent down to them, most of it is the players that do the thinking. Rugby is one of the only sport where a captain can overrule/override a coach in the dying minutes of a game for instance and senior players are allowed to make a decision of going for a draw or a win in a close game, esp in tournaments.

NZL and the springboks rivalry is as old as time. As a South African we love NZL because we always play hard against each other but the springboks pride our engine room strength and ability (scrums) so that new law i think is to punish strong front row nations, part of the game. And yes i agree with squidge on this, as much as in the moment things can happen its a grass roots learning ability not to tackle upright to avoid head collision, or the no arms wrap tackle.

I'm an ABs fan and l'm well past the age of 65... When you're talking 'most hated' team.... that's an oxymoronic topic. Most Southern hemisphere teams kinda all dislike England the most. On the flipside... if you're in the Northern hemisphere and a supporter of any other team that isn't England.... you're also most likely gonna dislike them just as avidly 😅🤣😂 ...however... to be fair and as a born and bred New Zealander and lifetime ABs supporter l've seen a fair amount of off field vitriolic mudslinging directed at my team. This was a former classic excuse ..." yeah but the ABs are a team comprised of mostly Pacific Islanders" Hello... New Zealand is a place of many islands outside of the 2 main islands. My point is that rugby has evolved in the nearly 7 decades that l've been on this planet. Lol, what hasn't ... is the off field mudslinging on rugby blogs and forums like these. Grow up GTFOY enjoy rugby for the wonderful sport it is irrespective of where you're from. 2nd favorite team ... The Bok! Go bokke!!

@@QSNgg LJWiki haha (ps Im a girl) hey you'll have to keep an eye out for the Bledisloe Cup. (some more info for you!!) Its a match between Aus and NZ sometimes 3 games, sometimes 2 or even 1, depends on the schedule for that year. Its a great if not the greatest spectacle of running rugby. To lift it you have to win it back outright, if its a draw the current holders keep it. Aus have a good Kiwi coach this year and we have a new All Blacks coach who everyone expects a lot from due to his massive success in Super Rugby (Crusaders 7 time champs on the trot!) Aus is to NZers someone we hate losing too. Mostly due to a cricket test in 1981 (do you know much about cricket?) anyway it was a test between the 2, NZ had to get 6 runs off the last ball (you can hit a 6 if it goes into the stadium on the full, 4 if it rolls out of the oval) or run backwards and forwards 3 (x2) times between the wickets before they opp. get the ball back to the pitch. Its possible but it was a must do for NZ to win they had to score the 6 points. So Australia dug into the rule book and found that an underarm (flowery) underarm bowl was legal (its not now) and decided to bowl one to make it absolutely impossible to score 6 and win. Tactics or tactless??! Its something (I was a child at the time) even though we went to WWI and WWII together (ANZACs) that NZers have always held against Australia. (well not sure about this generation but I hope so haha) Hence the importance of the Rugby Bledisloe Cup. Late September 2024 x2 games this year. XX 💛 🖤 (we've had it for the last 20+ years but I'm not getting cocky about that by any means). Worth a look if you can watch it. Go the ABs. ☺

@@ljawgtn1393hi. Also a girl rugby fan here (Springboks). I wasnt aware of the cricket match you mentioned. Will go have a look for the details on that. But now I see why so many sporting nations are no fan of the Ausies. Don't know if you are aware of their antics in SA re cricket of what we now call sandpaper-gate. Where they were caught IRL cheating on the big screen, by hiding sandpaper in their underware and roughing up one side of the ball to make it swing quicker than it wouldve. And their excuse afterwards? Everybody does it. Nevermind Nick White with that soccer-worthy performance a few years ago. Man, the memes from that were amazing. So needless to say, the Ausies have a "special place" in SA hearts. Obviously, when NZ play the Ausies we are always backing the Blacks. Anyhoo. See you guys soon at the Rugby Championship.

@@lzb1363 how you doin'? 😃 ooooh yes, I heard about the sandpaper incident. And as for Nick White, not what you'd call ballsy, more like a spoilt chihuahua!! (not sure if you know this one) but last years Bledisloe Cup, the Wallabies, after 2 decades, finally have the series won with 2 mins to go and the ABs are penalised in front of our try line. Bernard Foley goes to take the kick for touch, but mucks around. To be fair it was mainly his forwards that were stalling and Nick White was right in the thick of it also. Ref stopped the clock, went over and warned Foley that he must take the kick, clock starts and he still hesitates, I've heard from people that were there saying everyone could see what he was doing and the ABs supporters started stomping up in the stands, it was just too obvious to everyone they were deliberately trying to wind the clock down, ref had to act, awards us a scrum instead, by now I think it was a few seconds over 80 mins, bada boom bada bang, Jordie Barrett scores in the corner and Australia is drinking out of the Bledisloe saucer for another year. Bad sportsmanship on their part, but didnt pay off this time. Not the same to win in controversy but it was the correct call. I guess if Im honest just like Sam Cane, only it was not bad sportsmanship on his part and Barnes undeniably has a history of being against us. Take it easy over there, our biggest but respected rival X

Squidge is a great punter. We all enjoy his channel tremendously,. Unfortunately we have a monopoly on sport.from our broadcaster in South Africa and we are a third world country where lots of ordinary people dont have access to watching the game. Like the documentry "Chasing the Sun 2" is behind a massive paywall. So they dont help the punters on KZbin with footage. I am only seeing it now for the first time and it was really good. Thank you for the interest from the USA.🇿🇦🏉🇺🇸🏉🇳🇿🏉🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏉

This is good analysis but I am not sure sufficient emphasis has been given to the fact that the AB captain Sam Cane was sent off after 29 mins and the ABs therefore spent just over 50 mins with only 14 men. This gave the Boks a hell of a lot of overlaps and mismatches. Not taking anything away from SA, however.

I appreciate the NZ fans in the comment section pointing out that their team played with 14 for the majority. But then we Springbok fans will need to point out we played the top 3 teams in world rugby for 4 weeks in a row by this stage in the championship. No other team ever had to do that, nevermind win the cup. Those were very tough, draining matches and very close affairs. NZ had a much easier run to the final. So I guess we can go on and on about who was more hard done by. At the end of the day, I respect the tough game this final was and that the Kiwis players accepted the defeat humbly at the end. Was sad to see the fans and the coach reaction aftwards, for months and months. Where Springbok fans were laughed at as looking for excuses when we pointed out ref errors in years before. But lets see what the future holds.

NZ have literally been whinging for the past 16 years about France scoring a try off of a forward pass in 2007 Quarters, yet they would have been happy winning the 2023 cup despite a knock on. Please explain the logic? It was always a knock on no matter how many phases the TMO went back or was allowed to go back. If try had been awarded after the knock on and the ABs had won, how is that any different to France in 2007? Good final though despite all the sideshows. Looking forward to the next Boks/AB test.

And just as you learn the laws and rules of union rugby, world rugby decides to change the laws and rules. At the end of the day the sport know as a high impact collision sport is becoming a sport for league players. It is sad. All aimed and the Boks. Yet the greatest rugby brain have already found loopholes since the hint was dropped about the law changes. Rassie with his new coaching squad are laughing because they already started planning for it. That is why Rassie and Jacques Nienaber also coached running rugby like in the good old days. That is where Willie le roux come in
@QSNgg
@QSNgg 4 ай бұрын
Yeah the law changes are wild. I've been learning so much about how they're going to impact the game. It's crazy to see they add new laws every year. It really changes the game and takes away from what makes it beautiful! Like you said Rassie is a mastermind and thinks steps ahead always. I'm sure other teams and players will find loopholes like they always do
@annettekolb3103
@annettekolb3103 4 ай бұрын
@QSNgg I have 1 loophole since they want to change the scrums put in a bunch of bulky fast centers in the scrums win the free kick chase try that is what they want more ball in hand more running less scrums less line out more shot clocks and there is the perfect recipe for a league game instead of union. Players know what they sign up for. High impact collision career sport. If you want to cry, go play league or flag rugby, but World Rugby got their radars aimed at Rassie, especially after the beautiful video to world rugby about Nick Berry after the 1 lions game with the 2021 lions tour. We know who leaked it but Rassie owned up said he messed up but world rugby carry a grudge

In terms of Wayne Barnes, a lot of NZ supporters have been saying that the penalty that was awarded against Ardie Savea was wrongly awarded because they heard the Referee apologise to Ardie and admit that he got the penalty call wrong and proceeded to let South Africa take the 3 points. This is what the Referee said “There was then a change of tune from Barnes, however: "Sorry, mate, I didn't see the replay, I thought you stayed on him, I didn't see it come off enough."… So this is not him admitting that the penalty was wrong , but this is him telling Ardie that he didn’t see him show enough daylight between when he made the tackle and the release and that was the call he had to make. He essentially is saying it was not enough of a clear release for him . This is standard when a player wants to discuss something they’ve seen on a replay and the Referee hasn’t seen that replay, it is usual for the Referee to say that they haven’t seen it, can’t discuss what it may or may not show , and then explain what they saw live. In this case Wayne Barnes(The Referee) clearly explains that he thought the tackler (Ardie Savea) stayed on and didn’t release . One night might feel that the penalty is incorrect because there has been a release , so law 14.a is satisfied . But from where the Referee was standing , it’s probably very hard to see that the left arm has released the body before making contact again. The release there is rapid and small , and this is why Referee’s always ask for a clear release , because even though there is one, you have to make sure as a player that it is obvious to the Referee . If you see the replay of the incident you will see it would of been very hard to see live in full speed, which is why the Referee penalised it.

That makes sense. I'm learning from both sides how many factors were involved in this final. I love hearing the perspective from both NZ and SA supporters. It gives me a holistic view of the game and helps me understand so much I really love how passionate each nation is about your team. It's very inspiring to see. I know how much rugby means to you and I have so much love and respect for that always I appreciate you!
