I think the 2nd element should be isolated from the rest as the whole thing is grounded by the threaded center rod.

@@sandyjorhat Zero potential in all centers, so no need isolation. Antennas about waves, not electricity. Also coaksial cable impendance ohms is not about electrical ommic wire resistance.

A little correction for those of you that think he shorted out his antennas on his wires in a Wi-Fi antenna set up there is only one antenna that is broadcasting a signal the second antenna or the second cable on the outside of the antenna is just a shielding cable hooked to ground to keep the signal from being contaminated he may be routing some of the signal back to ground but he's not losing all and only the first three discs two or three discs are sending the signal where he soldered it the rest of the little dish are just there to isolate and pinpoint the signal

While it is a DC short, it is not a short to 2.4GHz RF. The wrong spacing however would be the wrong impedance, decreasing the effective signal.

@@michaellin4553 just a minor correction and I know this because I'm an amateur radio operator and also a technician when you are trying to create a antenna that shoots a signal directionally you need to especially have your ground plane which is the negative side of the coax to stop the signal needs to be separated from the hot center of the coaxial call it for the RF signal he does need to have that rear plate isolated as far as for RF the RF impedance imbalance can be corrected through coils or other things that are put on there but then the signal won't be correct he actually needs to match the length of the antenna to the length of the signal he is trying to radiate if you get that length perfectly right in the right ratio then you will get a perfect impedance but you also have the wire to worry about in other portions that's why they use coils on antennas and slide the the antenna parts up and down inside out and make them different links and that

Interesting set of tools, you start out with a vernier calliper, good but then proceed to cut the metal with scissors! Or after determining the lid centre, you use a felt tip marker.... How about a centre punch, or at least a nail and small hammer. There's nothing more off-putting to a new constructor than having his drill skate all over the place, the whole point of a centre punch.

I'm no expert, but shouldn't the driven element be isolated?

IMHO you should perhaps look again. I had a similar reaction to the soldering until I shuttled back and paused it. A thin shrouded signal cable protrudes from the plug, he pulls the shroud back and solders it to the coax screen, then there's the insulated inner remaining which he strips and bonds to the corresponding cable inner. IMO it's all quite neat tidy and genuine, no clickseek fakery in sight. [kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJKkpamHgdChm8k]

They made a mistake and grounded the signal. You must isolate the back ground-plate from the long screw.
