Quadeca just mentioned that fantasyworld is technically the first song chronologically. He calls it a flashback and thats why it is so clear and raw sounding. Everything I said about the song still stands though. The order doesn't really change much. The only change to the meaning would be not him wanting to return to his old life but instead it was before his death. Giving a reasoning to his suicide. It just proves more of a fmty reference!

There's debate online that Quadeca actually failed to kill his mother during house settling which may re-contextualise some of the aspects of the later songs. It hasn't been confirmed yet but I believe that this is what happened. His recurring words in cassini's division about "letting go" leads me to think that he is still trying to talk to his mother and other family members through the afterlife while they're still all in the real world, mother included.

I always thought that house settling was about him debating with himself whether to kill his mother or not. The phrase ‘house settling’ has two meanings as the song progresses. The first is in direct reference to quad’s mother assuming quad’s ghostly presence is just the house settling, and his outrage upon hearing how she’s seemingly used this as an excuse to ignore his attempts at communication. “Rationalise me away, if it helps”. Of course, she has no way of knowing that he’s trying to communicate. But quad can’t see that, he’s essentially blinded by his emotions in this moment. He thinks she’s intentionally ignoring him, and he’s trying to find a reason to kill her. “Dead to me. House settling?” During Danny brown’s verse, quad is faced with the realities of what would happen if he follows through with his plan of killing her. He eventually reconsiders and turns the oven off (which is mentioned in knots). He now takes the phrase ‘house settling’, and twists it to imply that he’s settling on his choice to remain unreachable, because it’s better than the alternative of having his mother dead with him. However he still can’t leave his mother alone and he remains in her home. “Can’t let you be. House settling”.

I think on From Me To You, he was expecting death after his suicide to be nothing. He would fade to black, and simply cease to exist rather than having to live on. Maybe he thought he wouldn't regret it if he didn't have the chance to think about it afterwards, but he ended up in purgatory anyway. Now he is in static rather than black.

Fraction of infinity has a lot that you missed bcuz in fantasy world and Fractions he's letting everything he has left to say out. An in fractions he's accepting things now . - Also the 3rd verse of fractions has a lot of meaning about how he says his life was a like a movie and could be hinting that the fame is what added to his depression when he was alive. So on these two songs quadeca is letting everything out and just venting all he has left to vent. The end of the instrmental of fractions represents accension . 4And. - also the last track Cassini division has a lot of meaning in the lyrics and instrumental thay you didn't mention. The song is him talking to his mother and finally accepting his fate as a ghost and tell her everything he has to say and the last words of the song he's telling her that he'll be waiting in the after life for her to join him bcuz that's the only way for him to "let go without letting go" . - You also missed the whole radio static concept to the album. The little interludes at the end of some songs where he's just talking represents his voice coming out of a radio just like how they try to communicate with ghost is movies, through the radio static. And cassis division the whole song is him speaking out of the radio static to his mother that's why his voice sounds just like the interludes where he's talkingr

i dont know how people believe he actually kills his mother. this whole album is about letting go but not forgetting the people that we lose, keeping their memories intact. his mother succeeds at this as we learn early in the album, she keeps his vase, goes through pictures, makes collages. but eventually lets him go keeps him in her house in a vase. ben still loathing himself even after death cant let go, this resentment and feeling of inadequacy eventually makes him poison his mother. in knots all of the anger gets released, he realizes that he can't keep tying new knots. he leaves purgatory having learned to let go and finally finds peace, going to his fantasy world and becoming a fraction of infinity eventually drifting off into the static. quick little edit :) so quad said fantasy world is a flashback this only support's the idea that after knots he reflects upon himself and is able to like go.

@josiahroot55052 жыл бұрын
Great video! I agree with a lot of your analysis, but personally I disagree with some of your take from house settling onwards. I think he attempted to kill his mom, but then “had to turn the oven off.” I think that is some of the anger and regret in the song knots as well: he reached his breaking point, tried to kill them, and then realized it was stupid and and backed out. This causes him to be angry at himself. He then “flashes back” to fantasyworld, thinking back on his life. All of that is debatable though of course. The biggest thing I believe you missed was on fractions of infinity. I think the collab with Sunday Service Choir of all people/groups was very intentional. If you ever listen to old hymns, choir music, etc. refrains like “those words don’t do you justice” are extremely common talking about God. There are a lot of other lines (“divided divinity”) that imply the song is about God as well. I’ve already written way too much for a comment section so I’ll just summarize my theory of the end. After trying to kill his mom, he gets angry at himself, which leads to him reflecting back on his life (the “flash back” of fantasyworld). He then is finally able to let go and move on. We even see him “ascending to heaven” in the movie towards the end. This would also tie into the idea of him being in purgatory earlier on. As he has served his time in purgatory to pay for his sins he can finally move on to heaven

Great video except I don’t think quad killed his mother. When he says “can’t let you be house settling” I think that’s him saying he shouldn’t make her a ghost which makes creaks in the floor boards. Also when he said “had to turn the stove off” in the next song, knots, he’s saying he couldn’t go through with it because he felt too guilty. I also think she didn’t die because of the last lines on the album “So I can make that void just a little bit brighter For when you see it, until next time” I believe this is him saying he’ll see his mother when she passes away which wouldn’t make sense if she was already dead with him.
@jsonmusic_2 жыл бұрын
In the context of the rest album it just makes sense. Fractions of Infinity wouldnt have any purpose without his mothers death. He also mentions in picking up hands that he wants his mother in a casket. Just down the hall. So they can be together again. He then in house settling says it breaks his heart but he will try. Then it builds into the chorus of dead to me and let you breath. Its not confirmed but it makes the album way better if thats the actual case. Way more importaint and unique.

My interpretation of idmthy: The character of the album is a version of Quadeca who follows through on taking his own life. He was stuck in a life he felt was not worth living and he became fascinated by the idea of not existing so he took his own life. To his surprise he ascends into a ghostly form of himself and quickly begins to regret his decision. He watches over his family as they move on from his death and he becomes desperate to communicate with them as he feels like he is being forgotten. In a moment of weakness and selfishness, he sets off a carbon monoxide leak with the hopes of his mother being able to see him in the hallucinations. This attempt to communicate failed and he almost ended up killing his mother. He is overwhelmed with guilt, loneliness, and the idea of being forgotten causing him to have a panic attack. After calming down, he reflects on the moments leading up to his suicide with a newfound perspective gaining some amount of closure. “let me go but don’t let go of me”. He is then able to enter the void and become consumed by static as he achieves his original goal of not existing. Only this time he wishes he could be alive with his loved ones.

I think you've really misinterpreted the second half of this album. More particularly in house settling I don't believe it makes much sense for the ghost to go through with killing his mother. If he did, he would be making a mistake that he regrets and cant go back from yet again, just like he did with his suicide. Especially since the end of the first half of the album the ghost's regret for his decision has built up after seeing the repercussions of his choice. Killing his mother in house settling would be restarting his entire arc leading up to that point. In the following tracks, Knots, the ghost even says he "Had to turn the oven off". This interpretation causes a domino effect that causes you to look at Fractions of Infinity and Cassini's division as nihilistic when they are the some most optimistic tracks on the album. Interpreting any part of "Those words don't do you justice" as the few words Quad can hear of his mother in her own limbo / afterlife is an interpretation I DESPISE considering how optimistic and inspiring it's meant to be to the listener . Fractions of infinity as a whole is meant to challenge the listener to think if they want the pain of their depressive mindset, which is already death, to be permanent. Cassini's division is like a thank you and goodbye letter to the mother, he's glad she's moved on and is finally proud of her. "So let me go - let me go and don't let go of me" is even my favourite line off the album personally. Another interpretation I did like you did but disagree with is fantasyworld. His voice hasn't got that ghostly effect that it had in this track and in the track previous, knots, theres a poem hinting at fantasyworld being a flashback. Quad even confirmed this on twitter. This one is my personal favourite off the track and i think there are hundreds of ways of interpreting it that you could explain for hours each individual one but I really dont think one of these is that he's still a ghost at this point in the album. Still you had a very beautiful way to interpret "And i go, not in a rush" which I don't hear from many often and I really appreciated hearing your insight on this track regardless. Overall great analysis I just don't think the house settling ending did you any favours for analysing the final few tracks...
