This video is a life saver for my 1969 Quadrajet. I took the divorce choke mechanism apart to clean up the rust and fix the choke flap not closing properly. Turns out the previous owners did not put the assembly correctly. Thanks to the video, I was able to put everything back together correctly with ease.

Trying to figure out if I need to replace my divorced choke assembly, especially after watching your videos. Fast idle cam on my Rochester on my 77 GMC is kind of stiff, and locks into place in two lower positions and won't come up again unless I pull on the throttle linkage to release it. Whether this is normal or a problem I'm still not sure.

Your videos are fantastic and a HUGE help. I sheared the bolt to the choke assembly/coil that attaches to the intake manifold. Now my primary flaps are constantly open and can't start my 69 Rivvy. Is this a show stopper?

I don’t run a choke at all on my Buick. I do have to pump the pedal a bit more to richen it up to start. You may have to drill and tap the bolt so you can attach the choke. We do sell electric choke conversions if you are interested. quadrajetpower.com/electric-choke-conversion-kit-68-74-buick/

@@QuadrajetPowerLLC I used a bolt extractor, bad mistake, broke it off and decided to move on and go without the choke. If I can't get her going after my recent rebuild, I will drill and tap or make the electric conversion. Thanks again for the great videos!!

I can't turn the choke on it's side because it's on the engine. Is it possible to put the actuary hanging on the rod and put the put the divorced choke in the hole while still in the car? It looks like it won't line up with the fast idle point when I push the divorced choke assembly, the green shaft that goes in the hole to hold the actuator in place, or do I have to take the top off again? Thanks

Madd Maxx it can be done, just a bit more difficult that way.

@@QuadrajetPowerLLC Thanks for that, I'll keep trying. This is drying me nuts. I keep dropping the actuary in there off the rod but I can get it out with a magnetized screwdriver, so far...... can I put grease on it to hold it more to the side? I appreciate your input.

I got a quadrajet carb and it has electric choke I don’t like it I want a manual cable like what you have but when I googled it I can’t find the one you have I looked up divorced choke kit what is the part number or where did you get yours? Please help and thank you

What about the top secondaries are they supposed to have tension on them or be loose

Secondary air valves have a tension spring to hold them in place and to slow the opening. You need the spring and tension to perform correctly.

Choke assist during cold engine start up. “Divorced” means the element is mounted on intake, separated from carb and connected by rod.
