Good choice, solid design, really elegant lime and it has the bubble crown, that looks like a Center crease but has the depth of a teardrop. It has a lot of cool reinforcements and features, that’s a great choice.

Those are usually seasonal, when the new straws arrive (around late April -early May,)I’ll start listing them here, reviewing them.. I have very few western straw videos, I think there are 3-4 of them on the straw open roads,and one or two others.. western straws are different every year, but I’ll try to cover the, when they arrive!

Kevin - your videos are so helpful. I’m going back and forth between the Classic Panama and The Bogart Panama. Both are beautiful hats , but I only want/need one and want to make sure I get the right one. Besides what you say in this video can you give me any other advice or recommend another video. For some perspective In providing any recommendation- I am 5’8 , slim with an oval face. My head size is between 58 and 59 (so size large I assume in these). Since I am not tall, and relatively skinny, I’m looking for one that would best complement my features. I do like the the 1940s look of the Bogart , but a bit nervous the brim is too large for me. I appreciate any advice. Thank you!

It's really similar, one is teardrop, one is center crease, The Bogart natural is great, the brim is a good size,looks classical and good fr sun protection without looking oversized.. They're both just as classical, the Bogart is more nostalgic,classical and cool,like the epitome if classic panamas. ,the classic is more simple,elegant in it's lines,in a way.. but the Bogart has a bit more of that old Panama swagger and attitude.. I like them both in natural. And yeah, Large.

Thanks again Kevin. I went with the Bogart and I really like it a lot. Believe it or not I ended up in size XL (with some foam) and size L was just a bit too snug. My next question is I am also looking for a crushable Panama with a cloth sweatband for travel (easy to fold and put in a suitcase). What would you recommend. If not a a Panama what other straw would you recommend? I believe the twisted Panama has a leather sweatband...is that right? Thanks again!

Yes, u could say that. Definitely. It’s a classic 2” medium brim fedora shape, very similar. We sold cases and cases of them at full price, so buying it at wholesale cost is a good thing

Kevin again thank you for the video. Great topic. Living in LA it is going to get hot I have a few Stetson Vent Straw hats and it's great because it helps with airflow. I have a shaved head so usually, there is a lot of sweat that happens, and when I take off my hat the drips of sweat fall. I apologize for being so graphical but just wanted to give you more info to better judge my situation. We are going on a vacation and it will be very humid what hat would you recommend. Also, what travel case do you recommend. I wish I could buy a hat every week..:)

I never felt the need for a travel case,but you can get them o. Amazon and eBay and stuff, the Amazon ones that have backpack straps are nice. They’re the same,most of them.. straw hats are a very personal thing, we all like different stuff, they’re starting to come in now..the new Chelsea model is nice, it comes in Colors and it’s unbreakable U just cannot crack or split it. Hemp and stretchy, the darker colors will show less sweat stains, SNY summer hat will get sweaty, they all do. Me personally? I wear the birdie bucket for vacation or for most of the summer, but it’s casual, it’s cotton, lightweight, and can get wet..I love them. But if u want a proper straw hat, get something hemp, like a hemp Chelsea, or hemp stratoliner, hemp Asher.. they’re strong and last many years, while panamas look more elegant, folks go through them quicker..hemp doesn’t really break.

I’m not sure, but we have ordered it for the last 5-7 years, every year.. so I assume so. I didn’t do the ordering, and I’ve been out of the shop for a year, I wasn’t around when we ordered Summer stetsons. That’s a hat we do get in every year though, it might be a good question to ask on our Facebook page, they generally respond pretty quickly. I think only the owner knows if she ordered them or not, so u can ask on Facebook or email JJs.. I would bet we did, since it’s been coming every year.. but the last two years have not been really predictable w Stetson, many hats we ordered never arrived this fall, I’m sure because of the pandemic.. most likely, I’d say, buy u can ask on FB, they’ll tell u for sure.

Maybe the Classic Panama 😎 it's more laid back, versatile.. or even the Panama Bogart,which is more Nostalgic in style,kinda gangster-y,more 40's influence but in a good way extra wide brim.. either one.

Hey Kevin, I am needing your advice on whether to get the Capas Bogart or a similar straw that is a safari with down turned brim. I wear my felt fur fedora down like a safari. Would I be better off with a down turned brim or snap brim? What are some pros and cons of each type brim? I like a four inch teardrop crown with the brim 2"- 2-1/4" on the sides and 2-1/2"-2-5/8" front and back. Any suggestions? Thanks

Bogart is an incredible bang for the buck hat, I'd do it. Best features, styling and price. There's a 3" version too with a center crease,called the pioneer

Yes, we ordered a lot of hemp Asher and hemp stratoliner, most Stetson straws are ordered to arrive on April first, but generally they never come on time, they’ll slowly trickle in throughout April and may,or even June. Stetson is very behind on their shipping, but generally , no straws arrive before April, that’s when the season starts. So they’re not really late, it’s pretty typical. .. they usually start coming in about this time. any time in April and may, w the delays this year, it could be my time between this week and June.. You never know. But yes, we ordered all of that stuff, the fact that I’ve been making videos about it also helped them to sell out lol the remaining stock from last year,. Hat companies all send straws only after the season begins after April, Stetson is going to ship them, but nailing down exactly when is hard..

It’s a custom made hat from out custom shop at JJ hat center, you can buy a turkey tail feather online easily I’m sure, on Amazon, Etsy or eBay..and Stetson hat pins come free w every Stetson, so if u ask us at JJs, they’d send u one free, I’m sure,

They’re super lightweight but also extremely fragile, you need to avoid rain and humidity like crazy..it’ll get horribly wrinkled with any water, and they’re extremely hard to reshape. If u don’t expect rain,and you’re not hard on your hats, it’s cool. But they’re very temperamental, parabuntal, parasisol,sisol,anything like that.. Tesi is awesome though, gorgeous stuff

Bogart is way lighter, I'd go Bogart. Hemp is stronger and won't ever crack or split, but the Panama is more comfortable and lighter, very classy styling.. I'd go Panama unless durability is a key factor

Yes, we carry them,but they sell out usually in less than a month, they are very stiff, glassy, hard straw.. but they do have a lot of ventilation and they soften up a bit with use.from heat, sweat, etc.. there’s a lot of varieties now,of open road straws.,next year even more.

It’s a super high quality hat, yes.. generally, a standard quality hat from the 60’s is finer than the average $200-300 hat from today. Yes!

MJ had very good taste,he also wore very expensive black fur felt fedoras from Borsalino, he owned many styles, many were provided by Wardrobe stylists at videos, photos shoots, concerts.. others he purchased himself,many in Europe. My store, JJ Hat Center, supplied a dozen or two hats in that style for MJ and his dance crew( the hats were 2.5" brim,teardrop, black)They we're for his final tour,the one they made the rehearsal film about.. Sadly, the tour never happened, and the hats never shipped out. They were specific about the brim size,color,and "requested a 1940's crown shape" so I know what he preferred.☹️
