coming back to this one after some time haha. The techniques you have up your sleeve never cease to amaze me!

You making some new terrains? Can't wait to see it!

Nice tip, I've always struggled making nice rivers in Gaea.

Can one with Gaea create a whole planet for example? Instead of only a quad (aka 4x4km) to make a spherical land with radius of let's say 10-15km etc? Thanks...

in the build menu you can set terrain scale, it has an impact on a few of the simulation tools (erosion, snow) You can also do large tiled builds. Some people have used Gaea to do planet textures, and I myself have used it for a few very large terrains (over 30km) and were currently trying to work out how we'll manage a small continent that is explorable with different biomes.. so, depending on what you want to do, it impacts your workflow, planning and limitations... but in the end, yeah, 10-15km is possible.

My rivers node wont build at all... kinda weird

For that I would check on the quadspinner discord channel. Maybe you hit a bug. They should build without issue. Do you have the latest build?

What do you think about the way of doing this tutorial? kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYnJlYmPi7KMqZI I have an environment composed of mountains with quite a steep slope, and if I use the river node and increase the water and width parameters, it deforms the narrow steps of the mountain too much. That's why I usually use the river with a lower profile. Then I remove the flows node and with masks and combinations, I get the result that suits me best. After that, I do an auto level, and subtract it from the general height map. I'm going to try to combine that method with yours, which I find incredible. Great tutorial, you do a great job, congratulations!

I make deeper use of the flow map in other ways including the river creation process in the "Mastering flow" videos. It is perfectly valid as a process and can help in texturing. I think the key thing is trying to keep track of scale, which isn't done in that Renderbucket video. Which is fine for a more stylistic approach. I would highly suggest looking at references and applying technique as a secondary. For example, what I show in the video above I would isolate to specific areas rather than using over the entire river system. Hope that helps.
