Just make sure that the repair screws are not located where the towel rack screws need to go.

I would tie a piece of string to the center screw, the other end to something heavy or bigger than the hole. Just in case it was dropped, you would not lose it.

The best way is to use double layer of drywall in the beginning

Or use blocking before the drywall anywhere that heavy objects need to be attached. It is done on better quality (more expensive) homes.

Great idea. Additionally: use locking pliers to hold the center screw (sometimes drywall screws won't bite the wood without a lot of pressure or predrill). For those worried about patch cracking, combined with this method kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4nLdZ96d9-LoLs. I should have used more paper (changes bracket flushes otherwise).

Just spray some spray foam in the hole put your towel bracket back on before it drys. No cutting and holds great
