I'm just starting to get the hopping working in vr in the more traditional maps, I'd forgotten how fast strafe jumping was in q3! I'm very interested to see if we can get tribes running on these things, that game would benefit so much from the depth perception of vr.

Oh man, so many great memories from watching this! How'd you go with the motion sickness? I suppose the one thing is that you're unlikely to get dropped frames right? That's what kills me in some other games (on my Quest 1)

Yeah solid performance certainly helps, but just building and building tolerance should get there. I used to get the sweats just walking, but now i never feel anything even when games get chuggy (not that q3 does). There's a dreamcast map pack you can add to this which runs even better than the standard maps, apparently it's really solid on the q1, and it stays at 90hz on the q2.

@@GameCubits so the only other thing I wasn't sure about was whether there was a way to get this working if I don't have a PC that can run Quake 3. I only have my work MacBook Pro, which is fine for SideQuest, etc but I expect most games on Steam just wouldn't bother with macOS support...

@@IainSimmons the base game of q3 quest, from the link in the discord, does come ready to play, you just need sidequest to install the apk. It has the demo files so some single player and multiplayer. To get the full version files to copy across i believe you can buy it on GOG and just down the game even if it doesn't run on Mac. Or you could buy the game on steam as a gesture of good will, then take to the high seas to download the files to your Mac. ;)

@@GameCubits oh nice, yeah I just assumed you had to buy it on Steam like most of the DrBeef Quest ports.

@@IainSimmons any source is fine for any of the dr beef ports. If you have old cds of the games you can use those (youd just need to install the patches to bring them up to version).

So how the hell do the controls work on this? Don't tell me the VR headset operates as the mouse? That would make me sick as a parrot in not time 🤢

It's a full vr game, not some adapted flat game like all of those vorpx pc games. You look with your head, you aim with your hands, there is nothing to do with emulating a mouse.
