I had a little quaker that bonded with me a few years ago. He would attack everyone else in the house but he sat on my shoulder, preened my eyebrows, and gave me hugs with his wings. He died from some mysterious illness. Your video reminds me how much I enjoyed spending time with him.

@@mcnim5739mine was the same way when I rescued her. After a year or so or her still trying to bite everyone including me I almost decided to give up on trying to bond with her so I could pet her. But slowly but surely 6 more months after that she finally stopped biting me when I stuck my hand in her cage to change out her food and water. Then she started letting me pet her here and there then finally after 2 years of owning her she loves and wants me to pet her all the time. Anyways what I'm trying to say is be patient with her because unless you raise them from babies gaining a birds trust is no easy task and can take a really long time to earn.

Sometimes when I watch my video or others - my birds come flying into my area with the computer and 'talk' back to the other bird sounds. It's so funny, but love it. Especially my movie above, it sounds like a huge party going on! Regards from Sahar to Bella!

So sad...I'm sorry about your loss...where did he pick up the metal
@DevorahDesigns7 жыл бұрын
It was heavy metal toxicity. Lead. I think it was in the bathroom, I remember seeing both of them picking at some paint on the wall in the shower, up near the bars where they could perch. Old apartments in old buildings use to have lead in the paint. That is the only thing I could think of. Certainly not their cages, they are California Cages, made with no zinc or lead. They are out of business now for several years, you have to buy used , if you can find them.

actually....i took the sound track and doubled and tripled it in GarageBand..then i put it over the video. I made it into a Ring Tone also. But Sahar, at least, IS a noisey little thing when he takes a bath.

How do you get your birds to take baths by themselves??? My Quaker is terrified of bathes please help.
@DevorahDesigns8 жыл бұрын
Hi Sally, It's a gradual thing. I bring them into the shower when I take one, and they sit up on the shower bars. I spray them at that time with water. They love that. Then they want more. I put a bowl of room temp water on their playground or inside each of their cages. They are curious little ones and will try to get into it - especially on hot days. I splash my fingers in the water to encourage them and that is usually all I need to do. They will try. Nothing deep, shallow water, room temperature.

how do you know if it is a boy or girl

You need to take a DNA test to know if it is a boy or a girl

I inherited a 15yr Quaker in July. I'm very new to birds. But so far my bird doesn't seem to like a bath. Maybe I'm not doing it right and I know she is scared of any bath thing I try. She was in the bathroom while I was bathing and when I was reaching for something higher up she decided she wanted me but fell in because I wasn't paying attention. Now I dont know what to do. If I put a bird bath device in her cage she just drinks from it or poops in it. Never baths. She is now terrified of the tub with good reason poor thing. Ive tried mist and a sink shower. Ive tried a bowl on a mirror. Nothing seems to make her want to splash around . Any advice?

With Quakers you have to get them sexed by a DNA test. That's the only way to be positive. There is a theory that I agree with.....there are head shapes particular to male, to female. The eye spacing with head shape, the size of eyes and the ring around the eyes, size - sometimes, the stance - the distance between legs when they stand, and beak shape. I have been 95% accurate! Also the male is a HUGE builder! Every Spring he starts a new nest. Also, if you see them mating - that's obvious!
