Apologies for the skipped frames in the middle of the video. I accidentally shot with one camera at 25fps and another at 23.98fps, and then exported the video at 25fps. Thanks for understanding!

I heard a pro ironman triathlete back in around 2010 say that between races, he didn't train. I forgot his name. He raced every week or two between Avril or May to Kona in October. The tv announcer said it wasn't the best thing to do cause by doing so, you can't work on things you need to improve usually done during training. But the guy had good times...Less is more for some athletes I guess.

His stomach in Kona could be a huge issue. If he started vomiting at the end of a swimless, cool weather race then he's gonna be vomiting right off the bike at Kona. Heat is hard on the stomach, and you can tell he hasn't built up nearly enough heat acclimation. Even in his training video recently he attempted a run in the heat and had to come back inside for the treadmill.
@RKa-zh4zz
@RKa-zh4zz 5 ай бұрын
Then you didn't listen carefully in the previous video, training in the extreme heat of Tucson is more damaging then helping, that is why he finished on the treadmill..
@rylanrussell9595
@rylanrussell9595 4 ай бұрын
@@RKa-zh4zz I listened, and I disagree. He should have finished that run. You did not listen. He never said "it's more dangerous." He said it's more taxing; that it comes at a cost. He's using that cost as an excuse; he has a history of poor heat acclimation and it has been getting worse over the last few years as he has moved to more and more indoor training. This was a major issue for him last Kona, and will be an even bigger issue this Kona if he does nothing to address it. Also, training in heat is not dangerous for athletes at this level. It is dangerous for average to below average athletes as they don't know what they're doing and typically have very poor heat acclimation, both factors making them very prone to heat stroke.
@RKa-zh4zz
@RKa-zh4zz 4 ай бұрын
@@rylanrussell9595 Where did I mention dangerous? I said it is more damaging then helping. Training for longer than an hour in very high heat (over 40 degrees celcius) is not helping you adapt better to the heat, that is why he is finishing inside..

Too much carbs or in a suboptimal way? Combining glucose and fructose with the right balance (->different ways of uptake from the body), putting the right amount of carbs per liter in the bottle, and a good balance between solid and liquid carbs and probably even more are all things to optimize for race nutrition. Just asking because we all want Lionel at his best! Of course it doesn’t matter if your stomach shuts down. But it helps preventing it, while consuming more carbs. And more carbs = more power (if you’re able to digest them).
@JohannesHezer
@JohannesHezer 5 ай бұрын
I would say the exact opposite. If you puke the body is sending a clear signal, this is poison out with it. The more I look at endurance sports I wonder if sports science got it all wrong and with Tim Noakes, there is at least one who will tell a totally different story then „high endurance performance only works with carbs“. Just to name a few Anne Haug needed to switch her nutrition, we never were designed to with stand so much carbs . Would be so cool to see more research on fat based high performance endurance sports. Not to say to fully cut carbs the central governor needs to have a steady stream…
