@meegssan5716 LED is great when done right, didn't you see the video? Many cars are starting to come with LEDs from factory which also means better, safer integration. They're brighter, clearer, more efficient, and last longer. The efficiency part also becomes more important with hybrids and EVs. The longevity means fewer people driving with high beams just because they don't wanna be pulled over for having a headlight out but are too lazy to replace it
@gregswank4912 Жыл бұрын
The biggest downside to upgrading incandescent to led headlights (when using the good bulbs) is that they are so much brighter that people think your high-beams are on, and flash you. Just compare the yellow beam at the beginning with the white beam at the end, which is so bright, the camera is clipping. It’s important to have bulbs that produce light from the exact same location so that the parabolic reflector aims that light to the correct place on the road and not blind oncoming traffic. It’s perfectly legal to sell non DOT equipment, but they leave it up to you to honor the fact they are not road legal, and not use them in public roads.

So, for anyone wondering, the stock reflectors are designed for a point light source where the filament would be located using a stock bulb. Even if you took that stock bulb and moved it forward or backward a centimeter or so it would completely change the beam pattern because the light would be reflected at a different angle than it was designed for. Therefore, when you stick a poorly designed LED bulb in there that has light sources spread out all over it, the pattern that gets reflected will be all over the place too. That is why a quality LED replacement bulb has only two small high intensity LED chips placed at a specific point so that it can mimic the filament the reflector was designed for. Most vehicles that come with LED headlights from the factory have a completely different style of reflector from the ones used by filament based bulbs so that it can be tuned to the particular size and shape of the LED chip being used.

- Need a discussion of properly aimed headlights. Most vehicles on the road have improperly aimed headlight assemblies to begin with because vehicle inspections really aren’t a thing in the U.S. anymore. This is so important for LED or halogen. Reflector or projector. 25 feet back on a wall, you want the top of the light bar cutoff a minimum of 2 inches lower than the measurement from the ground to the center of your headlight assembly. I go ~3.5 inches lower, putting the cutoff on the ground out between 3-4 car lengths in front of me. I never get flashed with LED bulbs and would never go back to halogen. - You want the blade of the LED bulb positioned like you’re using a knife in the kitchen. Completely vertical. This is very important for reflector assemblies. Walk around a big parking lot and look at how many people have their LED bulbs horizontally and diagonally positioned in their reflector style assembly. It’s a lot. That scatters the light really weird. Put your LED light on a wall and spin one around in a reflector assembly and you’ll see. It’ll even change the pattern slightly in a projector assembly. - Only buy a blade style and never get LEDs brighter than 6000K for street use. If you ask me 5000K is plenty. - If you’re headlight assembly plastic is yellowed polish it clear or replace. Don’t just purchase super bright LED bulbs to compensate.

@RellyOhBoy Жыл бұрын
Dude, all LED and HID conversion kits are technically illegal. The replacement bulb must be the same type and spec that was installed by the vehicles manufacturer. This is why all reputable LED bulb manufacturers use the disclaimer: " FOR OFF ROAD USE ONLY". With that said....There are some better made LED bulbs with a better beam pattern and better cooling but the only type of bulb that belongs in a reflector housing is a conventional halogen. To get the best results from a conversion kit the bulbs should be a 55-65 watt flat stalk design with 1-3 diodes per side with a rotatable collar for adjusting installed in a projector housing. Improperly installed, cheap, over powered, incorrect color temp LEDs are just as bad as the cheap ass HID kits that hit the scene in the early 2000's. All the so called performance shops carried them and installed them and had everybody driving around with blue and purple headlights blinding oncoming traffic until municipalities started cracking down on them and had police issuing equipment violations left and right. You waited for a ticket or waited for the cheap ass ballast to fail, whichever came first.

@@HeadlightRevolution I installed the Auxito Q16s on my Kenworth T680 and actually ended up returning them and going with Fahren because the Auxito just didn't manage heat well at all and they would constantly adjust their brightness levels. 2 issues with cheap bulbs Their color is not optimal for night vision. If they go too high into the Blue they strain your eyes and you actually see less far which makes manufactures sell them at higher brightness than a regular halogen. The issue you noticed here. People also have a tendancy to put them in old cars with foggy headlight covers, wich does the same thing this video covers.
@JF94-k4o Жыл бұрын
Ive seen a few videos about those LED headlights needing to be scraped off quite often in a colder environment... but the older bulbs produce heat to melt the snow and ice in the winter.. it would be nice to see either way 😅
@cherrypepsi2815 Жыл бұрын
It's a non issue. If you're getting enough snow that it covers the headlights, you're brushing and scraping snow off your windshield and windows anyways. It takes 10 extra seconds to scrape the headlights. (Speaking as someone from NE Ohio where we get snow by the foot)
@JF94-k4o Жыл бұрын
@@cherrypepsi2815 happens while driving.. it builds up because there isn't heat from the bulbs keeping it clear..
@cherrypepsi2815 Жыл бұрын
@@JF94-k4o I've never had that problem at all and have never seen it happen. Unless you have a really rare icing condition where the snow can stick well, I've never had a buildup on my car. Still, if this actually is a problem in some areas (which I don't doubt), there could be legislation mandating headlight deicers, almost like the traffic light deicers that already exist. That wouldn't be such a bad idea in general, to be honest. I'd definitely pay extra for better deicers and defrosters in cars.

I love it when people put the most powerful bulbs they can find on the market into their headlights so they can blind everyone in oncoming traffic with their "I'm a big boy, look how special I am, no these aren't highbeams, my highbeams are nuclear fusion reactors" lights.
@zeropointzero Жыл бұрын
Any LED bulb that doesn't accurately mimic the position of a halogen filament should not be put into a halogen housing. 1st generation LEDs are a disaster because of the central heat sink. Copper substrate 1860 chips placed central to the heat sink work best for reflectors and halogen projectors. 3570 chips work best for HID projectors due to the large capsule on HID bulbs. Clocking the LED is also important! I'll never buy a bulb that cannot be rotated in its base. If it's not set vertical in the housing, it can skew the beam or cause the beam pattern to be higher on the side with oncoming traffic.
@onadifferentwalk7901 Жыл бұрын
Clearly I'm not the only one noticing that everyone seems to have their brights and fog lights on ALL THE TIME! Suuuuuuper annoying being blinded by my rear view mirror, or my side mirror, or The oncoming traffic. Isn't that a ticket-able offense? To counteract those measures I move my side mirrors. Suddenly they don't like to be behind me or in my blind spot. Works every-time.

If you live in snowy areas and still have halogen lights in designed for them headlights don't get led replacements. Sunk in leds run too cool and just collect snow and ice on the headlight.

We get snow by the foot where I live and it's a non issue. You're already scraping the snow off your windshield, so it's not a problem to take ten whole seconds to scrape your headlights too.

Driving towards someone with those cheap multi LED units is a nightmare. They can’t see because of the shotgun light effect, so assume their lights are not bright, but to oncoming vehicles, they are intensely bright. The quality ones to oncoming vehicles just look whiter and slightly brighter.
