I still see him as Soul Stealing Sorcerer 2.0. Can you imagine how the MK universe's narrative would have become if they didn't completely change almost everyone's story immediately after the original Mortal Kombat? Raiden was an evil god, Scorpion's desire for revenge alone is how he became a wraith that escaped hell itself to kill Sub-Zero as a mockingly yellow-looking version of Sub-Zero. Sub-Zero's entire clan had elemental powers, he just happened to master ice, and his entire clan were murderous bad guys... a clan that made being a heroic type an enemy of the clan itself. Johnny Cage was a typical Hollywood D-Bag who just happened to actually have been trained to be a super-deadly martial artist (inspired by JCVD's narrative when he was called out for being a fake martial artist at the time, which, at the time, he was) who even created his own martial arts moves. I mean, the only actual heroic types in the game, only ones who were actual good guys, were Sonya and the Bruce Lee clone.

It's called the fog of war. That original MK storyline isn't too different, it's just that we don't know anything at that time. But the real answer is, they didn't write the whole story yet, they had no idea they were gonna make so many sequals.

Lucifer is mentioned in MK deception by one of the NPCs of the nether realm. He was a demigod like Shao Kahn and Raiden apparently. When Quan Chi met Shinnok he helped overthrow him, we don’t know what happened to him after that. So technically “Lucifer the Fallen One” is canon in the old mortal kombat timeline.
