It reminds me of something - some Muslims considered being blessed by their god due to dark spots on their foreheads after regular praying with heads touching the ground. Turn out there are some parasites that normally cannot reach a human head from the ground, but apparently praying helps them. Who's blessed now, huh?

The qoute from Feynman is often used by pseudophysicists to invalidate modern physics. The qoute is from when quantum mechanics was in its infancy. A century has passed since then, and we definitely have a good understanding of quantum mechanics. If we interpret the quote as touching on the ontology of QM, then it still holds today. There is no way to test why the wave function collapses to a certain eigenstate, and we have no idea how this state is "chosen". Anyone who makes assertions about the ontology of QM will be incorrect, because there is so little to go off of. It's essentially just mathematical speculation, but it is a very real thing in physics, dubbed "The measurement problem".

The pork, and the various clothing rules, were a way to separate a people from others. They were all the same basic people, so "we don't eat pork, which everyone in the area eats," made them artificially different to make a long story short. Meats were cooked in general: gotta sacrifice. Islam based a lot off of Judaism. Yeah, I know, trichinosis! But finding remains of pigs in archaeological garbage pits is a thing in the Levant. Now circumcision? No one really knows. Sure, it would be a way to mark a population as separate from the rest, but how that gets started is anyone's guess. My favorite from one scholar is that YHWH would look down and "see" the uncircumcised man having sex and bless them with children. When the laughter subsided, he smiled and admitted, "I got nothing."

It's not the dunnin Krueger effect. Observing quantum mechanics changes them. By definition we can't truly know how they work at the moment.
@ThorsDecree3 ай бұрын
You're using a computer to say we can't know what's going on with quantum mechanical systems? Speak for yourself, but not for me lol. I went to school to learn this stuff. Your description is not how the observer effect works btw. It doesn't have to be a person or an _agent_ observing a thing, the point is that because the universe is not locally real, nothing I really has definite properties _except when interacting with other things._ Basically, until a particle interacts with another particle the wave function representing that particle is actually a superposition of multiple possibilities, as is the wave function describing the particle it will interact with. When they interact, the wave function "collapses" to yield a single discrete solution that describes the interaction. Until the wave function collapses the particle isn't actually in any of those possible states, _it is in a superposition of all of them._ Every observation necessarily entails interaction, which then collapses the wave function. It's not so much and _observer_ effect as a _measurement_ effect, where "measurement" just refers to any physical interaction with the system. It's not that you just don't know where an electron is until you measure its location -- rather, its location is physically undefined. It doesn't _have_ a discrete location when it's not interacting with something else. All this is really just a result of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. That doesn't at all mean we can't know how they work. We have a pretty darn good understanding of how photons and electrons work or you wouldn't be reading this lol. Just because lay people don't know this subject very well doesn't mean those of us who have spent our whole lives studying it don't know what we're talking about when we tell you what we _do_ know. I believe you may be ironically engaging in some Dunning-Kruger top-left-ism while claiming that something else isn't the Dunning-Kruger effect lol.

I’m a little disappointed with him on this one going on the wild speculation at the end. Stuff like autism and adhd and that has ALWAYS been with us, it has nothing to do with diet or screen time. I say that being on the spectrum and raised on little screen time and my mom refusing to buy processed stuffThat’s the nonsense people often describe. Thing is in the past it was always under some other name like “precocious child” or “gifted”. It wasn’t until today that we see it’s just what you’re born with among other things. The unabomber is not technically right. He is wildly ignorant of how humans were in the past, not to mention ignorant of how technology is as much human as our bodies are. Yeah there are valid issues like working, and social isolation and stuff. But none of that is going to be fixed by going back. The part he talks about processed foods and stuff is pseudoscience. Like I get he argues against nutters (though his arguments against them are pretty weak, it’s mostly bolstered by the fact his opposition is just insane) he’s guilty of misunderstandings of other fields, some of the science, philosophy, and sociology. Like the part about free will he mentions in other videos showed a lack of understanding of the matter (well that and there is no real proof we don’t have it or do). You also used a VERY weak argument by asserting you don’t believe it exists and neither do they. Trying to ascribe intent is bad argumentations I was a fan at first but now I’m seeing the holes. Humans aren’t terrible, we just aren’t different from any super organism with no checks. Any animal would have done the same as us, we just have the self awareness to be able to check ourselves.
