One of the things I love most about watching you is that you do not waste food. You scrape the rest of the bowl and show us this. It seems like a southern thing but I’m sure it is not. It’s more of a respect for food and the expense. Either way, having both grandmothers struggle with going hungry sometimes, I respect and love the hell out of it.

Mrs Paula, I'm Alabama girl living in Oregon. I'm stuck in this Vegan Noghtmare here. Thank Heavens we now have a Cracker Barrel and a Chick-fa-la (I've only waited 26 years). I cant begin to tell you how much I absolutely love watching you during this stressful time. Every recipe I've made of yours my family just loves. Our youngest son is 18 and is graduating this year. Unfortunately they have decided not to have a graduation ceremony like normal. So we will have to make our own memories. Adam doesnt like frosting on cakes, so I think I will make him your gooy butter cake to hit the spot. Thanks for all you do! Tonya Case, Portland, Oregon (originally from North Alabama).

Hello Paula, I watched your show for years, until it was taken off the air. We had what I thought would be a pleasure to visit "The Lady and Son's." I was overjoyed, and couldn't wait to taste the fried chicken and the sides. As we ordered, we were told that the serving sizes would be enough for my husband and I, and therefore, not to order a different item off the menu. My husband requested white meat, and I, dark, along with Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, green beans, cucumber salad. When our food arrived, there was one wing, a thigh and drumstick. Well, the Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes was a serving for one, and did not have a creamy texture. The cucumber salad was delicious! The waiter had put the blame on the cook for the portion size. I waited years to eat at the "Lady and Son's." I was so disappointed that my heart broke. This may sound silly, but I put you on a pedestal as one of the greatest cook's. Paula, I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. We left with great disappointed. 😞 I couldn't wait to buy one of your cook books, but was gravely disappointed with the food and the service, that it left a sour taste in my heart. I loved the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake! I hoped my experience would have been better.

I made this recipe for the first time years ago when I saw you make it on your show. My favorite is the peanut butter and chocolate. Oh my heavens! My good friend's mother made these but she never used Gooey or Cake in the title. She took them a next step or two by using lemon juice or almond extract X 2 in lieu of vanilla with slivered almonds on top. She called them Lemon Bars or Almond Bars. Jane often served these at teas or bridal showers. She was a true Southern Belle without Gooey in her vocabulary. She also pushed the dough base up the side of the pan about 1/2" so that the cream cheese mixture stayed within the bar base. She always worked at recipes until she got them perfect in her eyes. A wonderful cook, a wonderful woman, Jane Lutkus.

I watched someone on KZbin make a strawberry version of this cake, she gave you all the credit. It was Whipperwill hollow or something like that.

Haven't had this, but oddly & very similar ingredients/different form, have been making a super easy cookie recipe I found in a cookbook prob. 15 yrs ago. Can be made w/ any variety + any mix-in's, but SO easy & surpisingly good: remembering 1, 1, 1, 1, & done. :) My son's fav version (prob 'cuz unique not found in stores/cookies usually AND that they reminded him (in his words anyway) of... strawberry Quik.. w/ a kick (lol) was... 1 stick butter + 1 brick (full fat/philly) cream cheese both softened slightly, creamed in bowl... Add in 1 lg/xl EGG & combine.. (can add vanilla or almond extract, or none) then... 1 box fav moist STRAWBERRY CAKE MIX. Stir in couple hand fulls of white chocolate (or milk choc?) discs if you can find them. Chips, otherwise. Put bowl in fridge for 10 min or so just to stiffen. Super sticky/hard to handle otherwise. Using cookie scoop, drop onto paper plate or shallow bowl w/ some powdered sugar & roll to cover dough ball. Place on cookie sheet & bake in 375 degree F pre-heated oven for 10-11 min, depending.. Let cool slightly on pan or rack, then store. NOM NOM SOOOO good. Have made pineapple cake w/ cherry chips + a few pineapple tidbits... Chocolate fudge cake + hersheys chips or milk choc discs (omg, if u can find 'em the disc shape makes such a difference. Like getting litte pools of chocolate, YUM) or.. heath chips... Rolled in the powdered sugar before baking.. they come out looking like chocolate cookies w/ this white crackle on top! Carrot cake w/ white choc chips + walnuts chopped finely.. Banana cake + extra banana + just couple choc chips + walnuts.. Any combo, so good. Similar ingred to above gooey cake, just different amts & form. All, so easy & so great tho. Everyone will ask for recipe... I mean, esp if you show up w/ some bright pink cookies (or cake) that tastes THAT good. ENJOY.. Stay safe & well.

Hey Paula, I notice that you love the color yellow, because you keep wearing that nice bright yellow tunic shirt, in alot of these videos. I was wondering, do you ever read, or answer back to any of the comments?
@jak303414 жыл бұрын
She probably doesn’t, I probably wouldn’t if I was her. So many nasty things are said
@stevejohnson74364 жыл бұрын
@@jak30341 I agree, there are people here that just like writing unnecessary comments. If you don't like someone just keep on moving. Yet trolls love going on people channel that they dislike just to give a negative comment.
@angelinasuazo57054 жыл бұрын
@@jak30341 I don't know who you, or the rest of the commenters on this line are referring to, but I honestly was curious, about my questions to Paula, in my comment. I would have asked the same exact thing, if I were sitting beside her, talking as a friend. She did wear the same bright yellow tunic, in several of her videos, and Lord knows, that Paula can afford a big wardrobe, so I just thought that maybe she mighy have a fondness for that particular shirt. My daughter loves yellow too, especially canary yellow, like what color Paula was wearing. And the part about me asking if she ever read the comments, or answered back to any of them; well, that's not an unreasonable question, because when I looked down all of her comments, there wasn't any of them that were answered, or highlighted, or personally liked, by Paula, like other vloggers do, so that's why I was curious about that too. I have a dear sweet lady that I watch on KZbin, and she's in her early '80's, and she loves all of her subscribers, and she reads every comment, and responds to every comment!! Literally. So I don't really think it's unusual, or out of line, the simple easy questions that I had. Just saying.

Angelina I'm not Clinched but you wrote you were wondering if Paula ever read or answer to any of the comments. Clinched said probably not because there are nasty things said. I agreed with Clinched because there are nasty comments referring to Paula on her videos. I was not referring to you that you were negative or being nasty or rude I was referring to trolls that come an write unnecessary comments to Paula. That is why we don't see her responding to comments on the comment section. Paula does say she reads letters and personal Dm she gets and emails.

@@angelinasuazo5705 Paula Deen made it big, had her own TV show on the Food Network. So I'd guess that the likelihood that she'd respond to any of the comments on here is the same as the likelihood that any other Food Network star would respond.

Mrs/Ms Johnson just wondering if you were aware of why this woman you say you love, cooking show was removed from television? Well yur beloved Paula is an avid racist. I employor you to please look up the fact that she wanted to bring back the old Dixie days aka the days when we were Lynched, and serving her in the ol slave ways. It's heartbreaking to you have such admiration for a woman who supports them ole Dixie days. Like Florida Evans said dam,dam,dammmm.

About 30 yrs ago I got them from a bakery. You could take a spoon and hit that top and crack it. Under that hard top was a goo that would run out of that sides, with cake underneath. I feel like if I had to guess it was sweet and condensed milk poured over the top. No one can recreate it. We would get them still warm. OMG pure heaven.

Good to see you cooking, I’m so enjoying this series of videos‼️. I was in Branson Mo last weekend. Went into the gift shop of the restaurant and I bought the salt box, butter bell and the square iron skillet. Great quality and the employees were great‼️. Friendly and helpful. I’ll go back and eat in the restaurant when I can take my girlfriend with me. Thanks for all you do and be safe ❤️

I'm so surprised to see you make Gooey butter cake because most people have never heard of it....we thought only St. Louis people ate it!! 😂 It's know to be a very rich cake!
