I've had my 2004 Phaeton V8 for 11 years now, and it's carried me on many 500+ mile road trips in that time. Like any older luxury car, it will take as good care of you as you do of it. There have been a couple of larger issues over the years (the air struts needed replacing at about 107K miles), but mostly it's just needed routine maintenance. It's quiet, very comfortable, and the ride is still sublime. Even the ventilated seats still blow ice cold!

I believe you, dude. It's a good car and unfairly criticized. It's mostly because it's not cheap to maintain and mostly if it's an american version and because of its rarity, parts are scarce and thus expensive. It's just as expensive as using an S-class. A front bumper replacement of the newer models is around 2 grand or more.

Just had a short outing in our V8 2008 Phaeton. It’s a wonderful car, wickedly luxurious and great for cruising. Our garage says she is in great almost as new condition after 150,000 km. She needed new batteries recently after standing for many months unused, we once needed new coils, but otherwise she has no problems and we simply cannot afford to sell her on for peanuts even though she is a bit too expensive to run as a daily driver. Like this one the up and down electric steering adjust is broken, would cost 4000 Swiss francs to replace the unit. Otherwise a wonderfully complete and cosy luxury car. This review is so fair overall. These are amazing and totally underrated cars, you need to won one to understand just how great they are.

As I work my way toward becoming an Everyday Driver aficionado I am arriving at a conclusion, that this specific video may be the best one with regards to the editing banter between Todd and Paul. For example, Todd makes some commentary about how Paul is barely awake and then it cuts to Paul yawning and shaking his head...masterful. People also say horrible things about the V10 M5/M6 but with 121k miles, I am still doing rolling burnouts and 180mph pulls "in Mexico" and it has been good to me since I bought it for $11k two years ago. One of the freeing things is that the worst thing that can happen is it blows up and I end up parting it out to recoup most of the money. I maintain it properly but I don't have to really care enough to go easy on it. I drive it like a maniac every time I get in it and it loves it.

Is it me? Or when you have a older car and just enough extra money or you save enough money to add those new tires, or get the A/C working, put new hoses clamps, wiper motor what ever it needs or something you added like a better entertainment or paint all of a sudden the car becomes your baby and you just fall deeper in love. I had back in 1990 a 1986 Chevy Sprint 3 cyl. In excellent condition for a winter beater. I put my 63 Lincoln and 83 GT Conv Stang away. I only planned to drive it for a few months. 60K miles and $700 I paid. I kept that car for 4 seasons and continued to drive it all year round paying $3 a week in fuel. I loved that Car put 48K on it and sold it for $1400. I had recovered the seats and did a little rust repair and painted the rims and the people who bought it just loved it. I kicked myself for selling it when I still seen it on the road 3 years later. These were friends of a friend. I love Todd when it lets his masculinity down it always makes me laugh. I think Paul and Todd are Perfect as a Team!

I have to admit that I'm one who was/is always paranoid to every new squeak, squeal, or hesitation when I'm traveling, even when I drove a brand new VW every 2-3 years. But in 47 years of driving, the only time I had a major problem was in a Mustang driving back to college in NW Arkansas after a visit to my parents. Late 70s, Sunday afternoon, on I40 about 60 miles from Fort Smith (destination Fayetteville, another 50 miles or so). The car suddenly began to run really rough, could not drive more than 30MPH. Could not find any place open. Fortunately it limped all the way back to school but I was worn out from the anxiety! My VWs, the only problem I had on a road trip was in a Golf. Just topped off oil when I got gas; got a sudden check engine light. Pulled over, took a look at engine and found I'd left the oil filler cap off and was still sitting in top of the engine cover. Put it back on, check engine went off.

Eh, on the Maserati the engine doesn't make a lot of power down low, so it's geared to keep the RPM's higher to keep it in the powerband. Same goes with my BMW, it has a small inline 6 that needs to rev to make power so it's geared to spin at 3500 at 85.

even though it's a divided four-lane limited access interstate, route 70 from it's western terminus, which i assume was close but not exactly where they got on, to denver is a beautiful drive. it's not always the case, but i was grinning through most of this video. good one!

I remember being impressed with the Phaeton. And even looked at used cars...but not SERIOUSLY looking at used cars. Boring looks, but seems capable enough. Ultimately. I bought a used SUV which seems more practical, gets better gas mileage, and has Less people room and fair cargo room (2010 Santa Fe) and fair exceleration (7.2 sec 0-60). I probably will never gp back to a normal car...and ive driven an 89 Acura Integra. 84 Dodge Daytona turbo 1, 86 Olds Cutlass, 72 Impala, 90 Camry, 69 C10 (327 v8), 05 Chevy Blazer, and my Hyundai. Once you go SUV, why go back? 😂

I love the Phaeton, all the small details and gimmicks. I'm opting to buy one with lpg, since fuel is pretty expensive in Germany. It's just hard to find one out of good hands with trusty service history.

Get the TDI! The V10 is nightmare to maintain, but miracle to drive, and the milage is amazing, doing a 160km daily commute on a highway (at the mentioned non-event speeds) and it still uses "only" 8-9L/100kmh The V6 is easier on the wallet for maintenance, but not much better on fuel.
@vincentchazal3895
@vincentchazal3895 4 жыл бұрын
I'd get a V6 TDI after the first facelift. No enormous issues like the V10 plus they're really common. And LPG is always a meh idea aftermarket because it burns at higher temps than gas.
@anzew88
@anzew88 4 жыл бұрын
@@vincentchazal3895 agree! Though every engine has its own demons, the difference is trouble and expense fixing it. I had to retire the first V10 after 380 000km, hoping the second one won't be the same case, 290k now.

But now I got to the point I use it for daily commute (100 miles/day). Love these cars! Btw if you need any (non engine) parts for the Phaeton, just hit me up, I'm parting out my first Phaeton, but it's a diesel.

Beautiful roads, wonderful intellect on the cars, and just overall great fun to watch! These two luxury cruisers are pushing on despite their age and mismanagement! Also, I definitely agree with the whole roadtripping with friends/acquaintances cross country with 2 cars (and walkie talkies or something to talk with). You’ll have loads of fun and get to experience cars, the scenery, the roads and much much more! It’s amazing how different the US is just when driving through states.
