Queen kick off the 1980's in style with what would become their biggest selling single ever. But in true Queen fashion, it was a song unlike any of their others, coming from an unlikely source, and representing another massive gamble.

Deaky was really the secret weapon of QUEEN. A Real genius. Hope he is happy in his retirement with his family and friends. He wrote very good songs. Good bassplayer and good song writter. He was so sad when Freddie's gone... He knew that QUEEN wasn't be able to be the GREAT QUEEN ever more Without Freddie. I'm still agree with him. All my respects for this lovely artist.

This song is a good starter for going through the transition from 70s Queen to 80s Queen. John Deacon was an underrated song writer, but he's always doing outstanding move. Long live Queen, long live John Deacon, Roger Taylor, Brian May, and also the one and only Freddie Mercury.

Freddie, you need a song the cats can dance to." John introduced this riff to us during rehearsal that we all immediately thought of disco, which was very popular at the time. We worked it out and once it was ready, played it for Michael. I knew we had a hit as he bobbed his head up and down. "That's it, that's the gravy. Release it and it will top the charts," he said. So we did and it did. -Freddie Mercury I love how Freddie always talked as if they were all on the same page and worked on everything , in thus case it was just Freddie supporting john Except for hot space he couldn't pretend they were behind that!

In the 1980’s my dad was in the Army and stationed in Hawaii, Oahu schoffield Barraks. He was an IG inspector and every time he did an inspection he would play this song really loud and began inspecting. Most failed their inspection and he would play this louder. It got so bad that majors and demanded he not be allowed to play this song and that he had to be accompanied by a an officer during inspections. It didn’t help them because they would still fail and when he got in his car he blasted this song.

I bet if you ask people who recognize the start of both songs and show them a picture of who made the bass line they would be suprised how can a quiet and reserved looking guy like John create such recognizable basslines. My favourite song by my favourite bassist. This song still makes me dance 🕺 and is so catchy. It must have given John so much confidence to have this song win an AMA and become so popular. I am shocked that Roger didn’t appreciate this song more since many of Freddie’s songs they played in the early 70s were very un-rock and roll. This just proves that Queen could do anything and make it a hit. Thank you John. I hope you are doing well and you are happy 😊.

And then Deakey put this groove down. Immediately Freddie became violently enthusiastic and said, "This is big! This is important! I'm going to spend a lot of time on this." Freddie] would certainly fight for things he believed in. Like 'Another One Bites the Dust' which was a bit of a departure for Queen. Roger, at the time, certainly felt that it wasn't rock and roll and was quite angry at the way it was going. And Freddie said, "Darling, leave it to me. I believe in this." John had written the song. But it took Freddie's support to make it happen. -Brian May So glad Freddie supported john on this

Genius John and Queen, and also a legacy with an amazing melting pot of other greats such as Michael Jackson and Chic. John Deacon is brilliant. I will never run out of praise for him and Queen. The fact that there was always this thing of rock vs disco, and they showed the world that they could do it all... Brought the people together and the groove is irresistible. Timeless. Just so good. Suddenly we were forced to put out this single because so many stations in New York were playing it. It changed that album from being a million-seller to being a three-million seller in a matter of three weeks or so. -Brian May Edit so im guessing the other two still weren't behind it even though mj suggested to release it and Freddie was completly supporting it

And this song is why John can retire and never have to work for money ever again. His kids probably won’t need to either.

it is a classic song. it was a massive hit when it came out and it was a massive crossover for queen in the u.s. being #1 in the hot 100 but also a hit in rock charts, the black radio charts, and the dance charts. and yes, for that brief moment. queen were the biggest band in the world.

I just love early Queen🤘.... this was a change in direction... but that was Queen in the 80s.. testing out new area's in music... not to everyone taste... but still amazing... we all can agree on one thing... Queen could put on a show and leave you feeling like it was all just for you... thanks for helping all the good memories come flooding back.. Queen forever 🤘
