They called John Deacon their "Secret Weapon" for a reason! The bass lines he created are incredible. From Another One Bites The Dust to Under Pressure, his bass lines will live on forever!
Love the tidy whitey “hot pants” always!!! He basically did that to bug the producer of this filming because they filmed over 2 days and he wanted them all the wear the exact same thing for both days. Freddie was so bugged that the guy was bossing them around so he had several costume changes AND the white shorts...barefoot! Go Freddie!!! And when you say you don’t remember things being part of the original song, that is just Freddie doing his great improvisation which just adds to the live experience! Wembley version next - my favorite!!!

John wrote the song and was very inspired by a band called Chic if i remember correctly. John was insecure about the song but their producer Mack pushed him to do it. Queen didnt want to release it as a single first but Michael Jackson told them they have to and they did and it was the best selling single by Queen worldwide.

I thought John wrote it when he saw a movie. I can’t remember wich one but it was something with gunshots and there were in Total 8 gunshots, just like the beat goes. When you count the times John does a snare (im sorry for the weird description but I can’t think of the right word) than you count 8, just like the shots.

John was writing this song long before 1979, but while in the studio with Chic at Musicland Studio, he became enamored with Chics bass player, Edwards, bass line. He was inspired by it and used it as a starting point or jumping off point to then work in his lyrics. John Deacons is much simpler and not near as syncopated and harmonically a little more stagnant. Roger and May didn't want any part of the song, but Freddie told both of them that he really believed in the song and really worked on it with John. Later when Chic members where asked about it, they all said it was in no way a rip off at all and its a completely different song.

Actually, Deacy came up with the bass riff and it inspired his first version of the lyrics. Then when they began recording the instruments, he realized that the tune sounded much funkier than he expected, so he quickly rewrote the lyrics to be darker and tougher. His inspiration for the new lyrics was loosely based on a movie he had recently watched about the St. Valentine's Day massacre. (In a north-side Chicago garage, Al Capone's hoods, dressed as policemen, surprise and mowed down with machine-guns the key members of Bugs Moran's rival gang on Feb. 14, 1929.) Freddie loved the tune, but Roger not so much (he thought it sounded too disco and Roger hated disco). Brian wasn't sure about it because it was so different from anything they had done. Of course, the radical difference it what made it so appealing to Freddie. After a bit of squabbling (they always squabbled), they agreed to record it and it took the world by storm. The song became a hit in 17 countries, but nowhere larger than in the United States, where it became the biggest-selling Queen record ever, topping both the Pop and Disco charts, as well as reaching #2 on the Soul chart. BTW, Brian said that Freddie nearly ripped his throat to shreds singing these lyrics over and over again until he got the almost manic, gritty soul sound he felt the song required.

We have also mention that famous bassline came to John Deacon's mind during his visit in the studio in New York when Chic was recording "Good Times"
Fantastic! Without a doubt, they put on the best concerts period! During Queen's time, the audience participating and singing along at rock concerts wasn't thought of as cool, another mold that Queen just shattered! The Montreal crowd knew they were being taped and were told to behave, not what Queen wanted. Yep, only Roger "responded" to Freddie's call. In fact throughout the concert, Freddie got a bit "colorful" in his encouragement for audience participation/call and response such as during the improvised vocals before Dragon attack, jailhouse rock and love of my life. Lesson learned-when Queen wanted you to sing along, do it!
I really like the official video on this, even though I have yet to see a version of it where the audio isn't a little out of sync. It drips with attitude from Roger chewing gum to Freddie moving all around the small space. Love the upper body shimmy he does at the end of it. I'm sure there is a name for that move, but I am definitely not cool enough to know what it is. This song was inescapable back when it was originally released in the states. Probably played on the radio every single hour and everyone I knew loved it.

I watched the hip hop version and they pay tribute to Freddie which I liked. They interspersed shots of him singing the original on a tv and call his name in the song. Cool! When the song came out, many black americans thought the group singing it were black. Freddie said that when they did a concert in LA all these black people came. They didn't open with this song so he said they were all looking around thinking, did we come to the wrong concert?! LOL
Bob Mosher It’s “Freddie” - And Roger does most of Queen’s “strong” backing vocals. You can hear him all the time, certainly on most of their live performances. Not saying Bri doesn’t contribute - he does - but Roger has the strongest and most distinct voice. Just saying.

The Hip Hop version of AOBTD with Wycleaf Jean and Pras was for the movie Small Soldiers and is also included on Queen+ Greatest Hits 3.
This is the kind of versatility you get when you have 4 talented songwriters in a band that won't be boxed into any particular style. The Beatles were the first to show this kind of versatility & then came Queen. Nobody has compared since.
The story with this Montreal concert goes that Freddie spent the whole time trying to get the audience out of their seats, while the security people spent the whole time keeping them in. He was really pissed off at the film crew, he felt they got in his way and Brian said in the commentary that he had never seen Freddie so annoyed by anything. This is why he changed into the little short shorts, because when it came to editing the two concerts together, it caused problems with the continuity. They told Freddie to dress the same and do all the same movements etc at both concerts, but Freddie’s moves were never choreographed, they were spontaneous and he didn’t like being told how he should perform. Freddie never smiled throughout this Montreal concert, that’s why I prefer Wembley for a lot of the songs, but not all. Somebody to Love and Dragon Attack here are in my top 5 favourites.

John Deacon's bass line was inspired by "Good Times" by the disco group Chic. At the 1981 American Music Awards on 30 January, "Another One Bites the Dust" won the award for Favourite Pop/Rock Single! In the early 80s the song was one of many popular rock songs that Christian evangelists alleged contained subliminal messages through a technique called backmasking. It was claimed that the chorus, when played in reverse, can be heard as "Decide to smoke marijuana, which was ofcourse denied by their management.

I would even say this is somewhat of the problem with rock these days, not the tight pants. But just the fact that frontmen used to be larger then life, they had sex appeal and people wanted to look at them. Despite the fact that rock is often more male dominated, it still seemed to apply for some strange reason. These days, lead singers are not well known, they are not good looking, they don't have sex appeal and they just try to blend in. The men used to be daring, like female pop starts these days. Some rappers have also lashed onto that image. When the first picture for the Bohemian Rhapsody movie was released, it was posted on Reddit, there was something 10k comments on the post, and half of them were complaining that Rami Malik didn't have a bulge! According to John it started out being about cowboys, wow how it changed by the final 😃 great reaction!
Roger hated doing this song. It barely made it on the album, but Michael Jackson convinced them to release it as a single. It was picked up and played by a black radio station in New York who heard the song and thought that Queen were a black band because of the "Funk" sound. This was Queen's first #1 song in the U.S.
Crazy Little Thing Called Love was No1 in the US single charts from February the 23th to the 21th of March of 1980. Another One Bites The Dust was No1 in the US single charts from October the 4th to the 24th of October of 1980.

Here's a list of things we know for sure about Another One Bites the Dust: * John Deacon wrote and composed it. It was originally about cowboys. * Deacy played bass, piano and guitar. * Crazy effects were generated via harmonizers, reversed tape, e-drums and console stuff. No synths. * Drums were looped. * Recorded at Musicland Studios in 1980, Mack produced. * Queen decided to issue it as a single after Michael Jackson suggested it. Brian's roadie had already said it'd be a hit, but they didn't listen to him. * John played his Music Man Stingray bass, which is now at HRC in Cleveland, OH. * The studio version's sped up a semitone. * It's the band's best-selling single ever.

@@queenremix1353 Correct. The people who were at the Montreal concert said the crowd was going crazy and singing like wild. "(also worth noting is that the audience mics were brought down in the mix to a near whisper, which unfortunately contributed to a false idea in some viewers' minds that the audience was bored and unreceptive)" Brian and Roger have said they just had come off the South America tour where there were huge crowds (250K) standing, singing, and chanting. They had become accustomed to that, especially Freddie. Between his frustration with the cameras getting in the way, the 'orders' from the director to wear the same clothes and make all the same moves for both nights of the Montreal concerts, and what seemed to be a quiet crowd it's not surprising that Freddie shouted to the crowd "Move Ya Fuckers". His music and giving a crowd-pleasing performance were everything to him. He would be surprised to know that Montreal is one of the favorite fan concerts today. Dear Freddie...

I think this is better live, just like I Want To Break Free, another one of Deacy's songs, is better live. This song was played constantly on the radio when it first came out. It went to #1 on a lot of different charts, pop, rock, r and b, etc. On the DVD version of this concert Roger and Brian have commentary. Both of them say " I don't know what to say about those" when they see Freddie's shorts. Lol! The band were upset with the camera people, especially Freddie. They said they were intrusive and didn't like how they were shooting the concert. When the audience came into the arena security warned them not to move around. Freddie tells the crowd early in the concert that they can "shift their asses" and "take all their clothes off if they want". The band's way of telling the crowd it wasn't their idea to tell them not to move it was the film crews. Live at the Bowl 1982 has a great version of this song as well as the best version of Fat Bottomed Girls and Dragon Attack. Roger is stellar in the Montreal concerts, better than the Bowl 1982. They have been off the road for 2 months when they filmed Montreal so everyone is fresh.
5:38 It is part of the studio version too. I LOVE The Live version of this song. I actually hate the studio version. I don't like it at all. It is completely Boring to me tbh. But The Live versions have the Power that I need. 6:43 yes, through the whole song it was Roger. Oh and also that's a Good point where I can prove why I have the opinion that Roger is more of a Background Singer than Brian. You can hear Roger through the whole song and Brian not once in this. And it is like that on many songs that Roger sings more than Brian. That's why I say Roger is more of a Background Singer than Brian. Michael Jackson convinced Queen to release Another One Bites The Dust as a Single and they did it. It made them a lot of money thanks to MJ. I think it also became Number 1 in USA or something. I know many facts and info's but when it comes to their Numbers and everything I'm lost as hell. Freddie not only wore the Pants here just ''because'' but Brian also said in his commentary to the whole Montreal Concert recordings together with Roger, that Freddie intentionally wore something different than the other performances to annoy the Camera team. They had to Cut the 2 Nights and make a Concert out of 2 nights and stuff and to throw them off Freddie would change his Clothes. They really hated this camera team here because yea they were annoying and they were not doing great shots and then Freddie wanted to annoy them back if you understand. Great Reaction. The hip hop version that you linked in the Description was sadly too much Censored. The music Video was pretty interesting. It wasn't boring and Freddie said ''you can do whatever you want with my music. Just don't make me boring'' and it wasn't boring at all.

They also played We Will rock you right before - except once- they threw a surprise in at Wembley and started playing Friends Will Be Friends immediately after We Will Rock You. The crowd went nuts!!! Yes, that 1986 Wembley concert was close to perfect. Freddie knee he wasn’t going to be able to run around constantly for 2 hours anymore so I believe he put his all into that 1986 tour knowing it would be his last. Mary knew because she had said they locked eyes after the final performance at Knebworth in August, 1986 and she said she would never forget the look in his eyes knowing that was the last time. The other 3 members were unaware at that moment. BTW- their concerts also contain a medley of rock and roll songs from the 50’s and 60’s where they just have fun all together paying respects to the artists that started rock and roll. It’s quite fun to see. I think they call it the Impromptu section.

Hello, I just subscribed to your channel so please forgive me if I request a reaction to a song you’ve already posted. I thought you might find the official video for “I Want To Break Free” very entertaining . It was based on a British television show called Coronation Street and the guys dressed up as female characters. It was a hit, except in America where MTV banned it because they feared the response by homophobic Americans to the “transsexual” message they believed it sent. Because of that, Freddie refused to tour the States and we lost out on the magic of Queen. John Deacon wrote it and I believe Roger Taylor came up with the idea for the video. Apparently, they had a great time making it.
Thank you for responding! I get it. Some music requires just the right moment for reflection. I appreciate how you are essentially creating your own storyboard based on genres and artists.
