Queen Anthurium Propagation | 100% Best Results for Stem Cuttings

Follow up to my Anthurium Warocqueanum Propagation video. I have recently cut my Queen Anthurium to take a top cutting and a few stem cuttings. Here is how this went. Personally i love airlayering with sphagnum moss because it is the safest way to propagate plants in my opinion, I have propagated philodendrons, syngoniums and monstera plants this way and it works wonders!

Thank you & welcome, I'm glad you enjoy it here 😊. How exciting, I don't know what your conditions are or where you live but I think the only tip I can give is to leave it alone for a while after picking it up. It seems the plant can easily be stressed which will result in crispy or yellowing leaves. Since picking it up from the Pop up is already a lot, not moving it around a lot after you decided where to keep it, should help. I wouldn't worry to much about that though, even if it loses some leaves, new leaves will be even better. Oh and I find my anthurium really enjoy some extra sphag around the stem, to root into (regardless if you want to prop or not). Of course high humidity in a well ventilated space is optimal, if you can offer that. Greetings from germany 🖐

Hi TJ, that's exciting, it's an awesome plant. I usually try to keep the humidity around 50%. Recently I haven't had it on at all so it's more like 30-50% depending on the weather. It works fine, but whenever there is a new leaf coming in, it might be beneficial to bump it up again.

I don’t have any off cuttings, but what’s the best soil for queen anthuriums to grow in? I recently put mine in 100% sphagnum moss

Cool, the plant will definetly love the sphagnum. If you want to keep it in there long term that works too. Only downside is, you would need to fertilize it regularly. The soil I have mine in is ca. 30% storebought potting soil, 30% Orchid bark, 30% Perlite, and 10% Worm castings. Something along those lines. Anthuriums in general like a lot of airflow so the soil shouldn't be too compact. I sometiimes cut som holes into the sides of the nursery pot to raise airflow even more. It's basically the same mix i use for all my plants, nothing special for the Queen. 😁
