A story: In '75 (when I was 15) I was playing this album on Dad's system in the living room on a Sunday morning...quietly, because my Dad (who was 39) was sleeping. Plus, this wasn't really Dad's kind of music anyway. So I go into the kitchen about 3 minutes into the song to get a drink...and I heard the volume go up. I came storming into the living room going to chew out one of my older sisters for turning it up...and there stood Dad. HE had turned it up. The man didn't own a single 'rock' album at the time...but just as he had passed a love of jazz to me, I in turn influenced him into Queen and Led Zeppelin and Supertramp as the years went on. Now I'm 57, he's 81...and we share lots of good times sharing music we BOTH love.

little history for you. Freddie Mercury wrote and composed this entire song 10 years before Queen recorded it. It took 70 hours to record and took 160 overdubs. Freddie even wrote the awesome guitar solo. And sadly Freddie thought he was mediocre as a piano player the one you see in the video was the same piano Paul McCartney played when recording Hey Jude. So happy to be a child of the 60's. Music was amazing

SpotFest I’m sorry but if you are a rock fan, let alone a music fan, you’d know the difference in guitarists’ playing styles. Brian May’s style is instantly recognizable to my ears and I’m sure many fans as well. He could play guitar solo without the rest of Queen, and we’d know it was Brian playing. So this is not something “any guitarist could” play. The soul, the feel, the passion that he puts in, is a huuuge part of queen. Freddie might be the heart of queen but all of the members are key components.

Best voice PERIOD!! His range is inhuman, I believe he had a range of 4 octaves, insane! Not just the range, the clarity and smoothness from bottom to top range is on point, he had no weakness throughout his range, just brilliant and and absolute genius and as frontmen go and how he reeled in and controlled a crowd, there has been no better, I remember watching the Live at Wembley concert at the old Wembley stadium on tv as a very young child, was 4 at the time and one of my very first memories, I am convinced my love for music, especially from that era, is down to that concert alone and whenever I watch it back now, it just gives me goosebumps, especially when they performed Radio Ga Ga, if you haven’t seen it, you need to!! When he died it was the biggest loss to music, just imagine how many more hits and classic rock anthems we would have been privileged to listen to, the concerts, I am still gutted to this day that I was too young to be able to go to a Queen concert, am talking original Queen, Queen isn’t Queen without Freddie, Freddie is irreplaceable, I am very jealous of those who got to go to Wembley in 86 for example, I bet that would take some beating! For me, personally, Queen and local lads Led Zeppelin are the greatest, there are plenty that come close, but Queen and Led Zeppelin kill it for me, Freddie...greatest vocals, Jimmy page best lead guitarist in my opinion, I know a lot of people won’t agree and I accept that, there is a lot a quality competition and plenty of names which I wouldn’t blame people for saying would be greatest in their opinion, the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Eddie Van Halen, Slash, Kirk Hammett, Dimebag Darrell, David Gilmore, Brian May, Randy Rhoads, I could go on and on, the list would be huge. John Bonham best drummer, again, in my opinion, just ahead of Neil Peart As for bassist, now this is more difficult, this is my personal favourite instrument, often more subtle and requires listening to a song more and with a high quality sound system to really appreciate and I think I have Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain to thank for that, lol. as Back to the Future is my all time favourite film, I have to throw Flea into the mix, not just because he is in BTTF but because he is definitely up there as one of my favourites and I love a good funky bass but if I had to give an honest opinion on the best, it would probably be Geddy Lee, top 5 in no particular order, Geddy Lee, Flea, John Entwistle, John Paul Jones and Cliff Burton, some might say Paul McCartney but to them I would ask, which one?? Bohemian Rhapsody is just one of the most genius' pieces in music history. Queen was the first band I was a fan of (when I was around 10 years old and if David Hasselhoff doesn't count lol sorry, I'm German. In the first part he is simply stating that he has made a mistake of some kind. We don't know what but he is "caught in a landslide" of his own making, there is no escaping from the reality of what he's done. In the next part he is relating exactly he has done to mother. The initial shock has passed and he must now comtemplate his next move. Whatever he does, life as he knew it is over. It could also be that he's already in jail/prison at this point and he is having that conversation in his head, wishing his mother was there. In the third part the guitar continues the tone of the previous part then changes suddenly as the central figure comes to terms fully with what he's done. The next section takes his emotional state into deeper and darker territory, from reflection and contemplation to depression. He becomes desperate and begs to be released. "I see a little silhouetto of a man" may simply be a reference to his inner demons. The next part is where our character achieves some kind of redemption and is in a better place emotionally. He finally achieves a sense of closure. Tries to put what he's done behind him and move on. He triumphs over the darkness and depression. Ultimately "nothing really matters". Basically this rock opera with its classical characters is analogy of Freddie's coming out; the emotional turmoil, the "death" of the Freddie that was a mask, to the eventual peace he finds within himself.

Freddie loved opera and that is why he wrote this song ,which turned out to be maybe the best song ever written , it's operatic rock. The song it self as far as I know has no meaning and is not about anyone . The bands in those days were very experimental and were always trying new things and mixing things up to make new sounds and new styles, they put tonnes of work into their music and you can tell when you listen to it, there is a video on KZbin where Brian May explains how they made this track ,it's very interesting to watch. I have been a Queen fan since 1974 and I am still amazed at how good the sound and it makes me happy to see young people enjoying them. Thanks guys.

Right let's get a couple of things straight Brian May is a Doctor, as far as I know he does work for NASA he may consult with them but work for then? No he does not build his own guitars, he built his red special when he was 18 with his dad, to his own spec's (which I won't bore you with), he's had companies build replicas of his guitars, I. E. Guild, burns, Greg fryer, he then took the licence from burns and started his own guitar company in his name to build the red special style guitars with his name. John Deacon only built ONE amp called the deacy amp using a stereo speaker and a large battery for use in the studio only, which gave a heavily overdrive guitar sound.

It's no good trying to analyse the lyrics as Freddie never spoke about. Brian May said on the making of Bohemian Rhapsody that none of them knows what it's about. The harmonies are multi-tracked vocals of all of the band except John Deacon (Bass.) The bit in the middle was influenced by Freddie's love of opera. Oh, and the very high notes were sung by the Drummer Roger Taylor.

OC Blues No, it's just a theory. The theory that is most believed to be correct is that it is the story of a man who murdered another and regrets it really hard. He confesses to his mother's and explains that he has to leave because the law will come for him. Eventually, the law catches him and sentences him to death. The Opera section is where he died and finds God and Satan. Freddies religion believed that God and Satan battle over your soul to decide your fate (heaven or hell). These guys set the standard's of what the ultimate band should be. They raised the bar that band's need to follow in order to survive. There will never be another band like this, never. This song is so beautifully put together with little twist to entice your thoughts. After all these years it still holds up to any song out there. I often wonder what would they be like if Freddie didn't die, the perfect front man and such a great so g writer.
