Post Independence these were the same people who held the Government designed India's Education System and basically formed the Indian Narrative which was just a shadow of the British Empire and was totally deracinated from the India that has a rich civilizational history of more than 8000+ years. This deracinated education system has lead to lot of people in India believe that the Brits were good, Indian civilization is a lie and stuff like that but a lot has changed post the "Internet wave" in India. People have more knowledge about a lot of things but still there are these elite people who live in India but have their hearts in the UK/US. These people typically think that Indians are less than others and colonization was somehow good for us. I've tried to encapsulate a lot for a YT comment but I hope you get the idea lol.

Many persons of colour try to avoid that by hanging out with their white friends and try to disassociate with any sort of public criticism of the monarchy to avoid hearing the 'p-word' in return. It doesn't necessarily mean that they love monarchy but they are just uncomfortable dissing them in public. Your answer is what our Indian government keeps harping about and then announce national mourning after her death.
