This video was a Freddie Mercury idea based on an opera in which he plays on the character Pagliacci, a court jester. It’s wonderfully creative and the song- a Mercury masterpiece as usual.

Pagliacci is not a court jester. He is like stock character from Commedia dell'arte. They were basically the first street performers. They performed for normal everyday people not for court. Everyone should check out Opera Anna analysing Vesti La Giubba (which Freddie uses in the opening). I think Freddie did a great job for capturing some of essence of this story.

Queen was an amazing band. Each member of queen were masters at their craft. They could all sing and they all could write music. They all were truly incredible R.R.I.P FREDDIE WE MISS YOU

Great reaction. A little background to this one. Freddie wrote it depicting a life he had tried to sustain in a long term relationship with Winnie Kirchberger from Munich where their studio was. Freddie couldn't speak German and Winnie couldn't speak English and it was Barbara Valentin a German actress with whom Freddie was very close to and who he lived with for a while in Munich before he eventually bought his own place that acted as interpreter for them both. Barbara is in this video and is the lady in black looking down from the wings and then she stands on Freddie's foot when their on the stairs and then when the place is empty with just the band she is the woman again watching from the right side wing!! She did much all of the interpretation between Freddie and Winnie but unfortunately he wasn't prepared to give up his life in Munich as a chef to be with Freddie and travel around the world with him, and leave Munich so it was another failed romance as sung in Queen's song "The Show Must Go On". All the words in a It’s a Hard Life” depict this. By the way the rest of the band was in the video from the beginning and Freddie passes Brian who is going up the stairs (back to the camera) carrying a guitar box and then you see the other two behind Freddie from the beginning. This dressing up was Freddie's idea and his godson asked him to turn up at his birthday party in the "Its a Hard Life" costume which he did, there are pictures on the Internet of him doing this. I have been luckily enough to see Queen live three times, the first being my first ever experience at Live Aid in London in 1985 and then twice the following year in 1986 I was 16 and 17 respectively and have been a massive fan ever since. RIP Freddie you beautiful little Persian Poppinjay (his own words) you were and still are a LEGEND. Stay safe from Manchester UK

Where's the band? Probably hiding in the costume department refusing to come out! They hated their costumes, you can see it in John's and Roger's faces, but of course, they came out and did it for love!😂

Not sure what you mean by that He couldn't create his songs the way he did if they weren't such good musicians/ singers? I agree to that ti a pount You can create anything but if they weren't good musicians it wouldn't come to life Freddie was also a nusician

Here are some musts; Somebody to Love live in Montreal. Different than the studio version and one of their best performances. Tie Your Mother Down live at Wembley 12th of July. Watch the audience. Amazing and rocking version. Better than the version you already reacted to and worth the second look. Keep Yourself Alive live at Montreal. Best version of this rocker. Dragon Attack from Montreal. Now I’m Here live at Wembley. Showcases all members playing their best and Freddie running from one end of the massive stage to the next. Roger on the drums is epic! He said it was his hardest song to perform. White Queen live at Hammersmith Odeon 1975. Interplay between guitar and piano is amazing with the drums and bass keeping them grounded. The cymbals at the beginning seem to encompass Freddie while singing. This is a hidden gem that hasn’t disappointed a reactor yet.

Live Freddies vocals on this video,its on i hit repeat when i listen to it. I agree it did take all 3 to make their unique sound,Freddie would tell you the same . I did pay big money to go and take my kids and grandkids to Queen + Adam. We all loved it and my youngest granddaughter (11) cried throughout the concert.

Thanks, guys - this was originally just Freddie - but then done with Queen contributions... don't worry about Queen's financial situation.. they struggled with predatory managers & record companies early on (see songs: "Flick of the Wrist" and "Death on Two Legs" - do NOT piss off Freddie - lol) - but in later years, they got smart, and John Deacon (bassist), in particular, was responsible for managing some of their financials... Love your reaction, and hope for more from you...

This is one of Queen's underrated songs. The lyrics of songs like Love of my Life are simple but deep. Anyone can relate to this song. It's about love, trust, and perception of someone's love. Freddie and Queen are really good. I hope you can give a reaction to Love of my Life at Wembley. You will not regret it. Freddie and Queen IMO, are great in Live version. Thanks for the great reaction.

Did you not see the band?……there’s lots of acapella versions of Freddie singing here on KZbin…amazing.singer🤩….Queen was pure theatre….they were meticulous in their writing…rehearsing and performing🤩

Have you listened to Freddie and Montserrat Caballè in Barcelona?? - - - Or watch the live versions. I can recommend ""Who want to live forever" 2006 with Queen and Adam Lambert - - it is extraordinary - the day after a mass murder in Orlando, Florida. From Freddies time I can recommend "Somebody to love" from Montreal 1981.

They just sold their music to Sony a few months ago for 1. 2 Billion dollars.

They had a lot of big hits all over the world with the exception of the US. They weren’t treated the best here for whatever reason. Queen sold their catalog to Sony in June for 1.27 billion, the most for any band ever. They did not want their family’s to have to deal with the Queen machine once they are gone. They still have the rights to live performances. The band hated those costumes haha! They have a video where you can hear just the vocals on Bohemian Rhapsody.

Insane video. Poor Freddie had the plaster off his leg the day before and is in pain. You can see him lower himself very gingerly to sit on the stairs at the end. A lot of bands would take this power ballad very seriously but not Queen. In the 80's, the band kept having to come up with new ideas and top their last video every time. Freddie's eye suit is now iconic. I find these videos very distracting and prefer to just listen to the albums or watch Queen live. Love your reactions BTW. 😍

hi, in France we have 2 historical figures who surpass all others and even Napoleon Bonaparte. They are our pride, our national hero. A certain Mark Twain wrote for one that she is the most extraordinary human being that our planet has ever known. Please can you react "Joan of Arc, savior of kingdom of France" and "Louis lX the crusader king" of the Cajun cutthroat channel and you will understand what it means to "be proud to be French and what's more, you will do honor to the French people. I sometimes find the videos are somewhat distracting from the song that is being sung. I remember seeing an interview with Brian and Roger where they both agreed that this was the video they hated doing the most 😂. Like almost all of Queen songs….. this song is so much better when Freddie sings it live on stage in Rio 1985. I have noticed that you react to a lot of the studio versions …..when the live performances are so much. A few examples: “Another One Bites the Dust” live Montreal 1981. “Fat Bottom Girls” live Milton Keynes 1982. “Who Wants to Forever” live in Budapest. “A Kind of Magic” live 1986. I really like your Queen reactions …but I sometimes feel you are missing out by not seeing the live performances. If you haven’t already ….could you please react to “Somebody to Love “ live Montreal 1981 or live Milton Keynes 1982 ….totally different from the studio release. Thank you.
