I remember watching Live Aid on TV with my husband. We were big fans of Queen and a lot of the groups but Queen was outstanding.

I was in Philadelphia for Live-Aid and what you never see is that when he was imploring the London crowd, we were following along and hanging by his every word an ocean away. There was NO ONE who ever held a crowd like he did. Not Jagger, Springsteen or Michael. He was simply the best ever in this medium. bar none. Considering his doctors advised him against playing this show at all due to issues with his throat, this iconic performance will be remembered as Freddie and Queen at their best. On this day, they were indeed the best band on the planet.

Best concert ever! Freddie really controls and pumps up the audience, what a showman. The band is perfect, every one of them. Thank you for this reaction.

What makes this concert even more amazing is that Freddie was diagnosed with laryngitis the week before and his doctor recommended that he cancel his appearance. Freddie ignored the advice and did what he loved best, singing to an audience. You might also enjoy the KZbin piece called "The Story of Queen at Live Aid", it gives interesting comments by other performers and staff.

YEEESSS!!! This was a once in a lifetime experience that you never forget... Queen's performance was absolutely brilliant - Freddie "Four Octaves" Mercury had every one of us in the audience (~72.000...), eating straight out of his hand! For 21 glorious minutes, the U.K. was ruled by a different Queen! So enjoyed to watch Your reaction to this, Chad - while at the same time taking another walk down Memory Lane! THANK You!💕

Thrilled to see a new reaction to Oueens masterpiece. It never gets old to me. The Queen boys demonstrate genius professionalism of one and all. Roger persistent on drums and vocals, Deaky (John Deacon) bouncing around giving us his powerful bass and Brian showing out on three different guitars - plus Freddie actually never stopping - deeply invested, involving the fans, lovingly ENTERTAINING. The greatest little concert; thank you much!

Someone asked Freddie once what instrument he played & he responded “The audience, darling” The two “officers” at the beginning were from a British sitcom as I understand it.

This show wasn't just for Queen fans but was an amazing collection of artists. They blew everyone off the stage. Freddie had a throat infection and was advised by his doctor not to sing that day. I believe it was Elton John or David Bowie who followed them and jokingly said "You bastards, how can I follow that?" I saw them live in Toronto in 1980 and they were the best live band I ever saw and I saw many including The Beatles and dozens of others. Fans loved Freddie, what's not to like!!!!! But I was a big John Deacon (bass) fan. Quiet and unassuming but great songwriter and his bass blew you off your feet and anchored the band. All four were amazing performers, songwriters and musicians. Not your average rock band...an electrical engineer and inventor (Deacon), a degree in Biology (Taylor), a PhD astrophysicist (May) and artist and graphic designer (Mercury). Four songwriters contributing four different styles. The only possible problem with Freddie as the front man was the other three, all amazing performers, seldom got on camera!!! Interestingly, the first British stamp to have a living Brit on it who was not of the royal family was one from Live Aid showing Freddie singing. He was not British born BUT you could see Roger Taylor in the background on drums. That was a first! PS - notice the audience is singing along!

It was David Bowie (a friend of the band, in fact the only performer to collaborate with the entire band co-writing and performing "Under Pressure") up next and according to both Brian and Roger he simply said "Bastards", it was the general feeling, voiced by some of the bands still to perform that there was no way they could follow that performance and not seem like a supporting act. In a way Bowie did top Queen's performance, by cutting his set short to make room for the short film that made the world cry. If you don't know what I mean, watch the two part documentary "Live-Aid, Against All Odds"

@@trevorgoddard2278 - I was a Queen fan since the 70's and remember watching "Live Aid" on TV when it happened. Just couldn't remember which celebrity said that. I know Bowie and Queen wrote and performed "Under Pressure" in Switzerland after enjoying a fair bit of liquid refreshment, LOL. 😁
