I haven't read through all of the comments to see if this has already been posted but Freddie had a throat infection and performed against the advice of his doctor. That makes this performace all the more amazing. He was such a force! Queen is the first band to have all of its members inducted into the Songwriting Hall of Fame. They all wrote songs for the band which provided their noted diversity of genres. The Queen Live Aid setlist with songwriter is: Bohemian Rhapsody - Freddie Mercury Radio Ga Ga - Drummer Roger Taylor Ay-Oh - Freddie's Ad libs Hammer To Fall - Brian May Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Freddie Mercury We Will Rock You - Brian May We Are The Champions - Freddie Mercury. The bassist, John Deacon, wrote several of the biggest hits as well though none of his were performed at Live Aid.

Live Aid was a duel-venue concert held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London (audience of 72,000) and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia (audience of 100,000) that was connected and broadcast over 13 satellites worldwide to an audience of over 1.9 Billion. The purpose of the concert was to raise money to aid Ethiopia which was suffering from 2-year drought. There were 75+ acts, each allotted a 20-minute slot to perform. The UK line-up included Status Quo,, David Bowie, Elton John, Wham!, Sting, U2, The Who, Paul McCartney, and Bob Geldof with his band The Boomtown Rats. The US bill included Madonna, Eric Clapton, Duran Duran, Mick Jagger, Paul Simon, Led Zeppelin, and Tom Petty. Phil Collins played in both London and then caught the Concord Supersonic Jet and flew to perform again in Philly. FYI - Freddie was performing against his doctor's orders. Believe it or not, he had a throat infection during this concert which explained why his voice broke a couple of times during the performance. Paul Gambaccini, who was part of the BBC broadcasting team at Live Aid, recalled the awe among other superstar musicians watching backstage. “Everybody realized that Queen was stealing the show,” said Gambaccini. These were the very words Elton John uttered when he rushed into Mercury’s trailer after the set. “You bastards, you stole the show,” joked the charismatic star. “Queen smoked ’em. They just took everybody. They walked away being the greatest band you’d ever seen in your life, and it was unbelievable,” said Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters. “And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time because they could connect with an audience.” Queen's playlist was: 1. Bohemian Rhapsody (just the ballad and guitar portion) 2. Radio Ga Ga (the song that inspired Lady Ga Ga's name) 3. Freddie's Call and Response 4. Hammer to Fall 5. Crazy Little Thing Called Love 6. We Will Rock You (just the first verse and guitar solo) 7. We Are The Champions FYI - Freddie wrote "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" while taking a bath in his hotel in Berlin. It took him about 10 minutes to write it. He was inspired and yelled for someone to bring him a guitar which he used to write the song. (Roger said that he never understood how Freddie got the guitar in the tub.) . It is Freddie's and the band's tribute to Elvis. There was another song that Freddie and Brian performed during the end of the Wembley concert: 8. Is This The World We Created (performed by Freddie and Brian toward the end of the Wembley concert) here is the link to watch it - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJradaJtlKyroK8 You might be interested in the interview that Queen did before Live Aid - kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIKuZWWsYtiHhdU

Freddie designed the Queen logo around the bands astrological signs, if you look closely the two fairies at the bottom signify Virgo. Edit : Crazy Little Thing Called Love was written by Freddie as a tribute to Elvis. Elvis died in '77, Freddie wrote it in '79. Word is he wrote it in the bath in about 10 minutes!

Crazy Little Thing Called was written by Freddie within 10 minutes as a tribute to Elvis Presley. Each band at the Live Aid concert had a 20-minute slot each . Check out some of Queen's concerts like Wembley 86 starting with the opening song One Vision dedicated to Martin Luther King Junior. And 1985 Montreal live HD starting with somebody to love. Freddie thought that somebody to love was even a better song that he wrote then Bohemian Rhapsody. Great reaction to this legendary band. X

Great reaction, there was 72,000 of us in that crowd that day, yes I was there and was 16 at the time and we didn't know for certain whether Queen were going to appear as they weren't on the "official" line up and we all went crazy when they came on. I've been their biggest fan ever since and am now 54. I saw them twice live the following year in July 1986 at the same stadium as Live Aid (Wembley) and then Freddie's ever last LIVE performance with Queen at Knebworth in August 1986 when there were 150,000 in the crowd !!!!

I watched all 16 hours of Live aid with music from 75 performers gathered in Wembley UK and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and you just watched the best 20 minutes of it. Live Aid was globally linked by satellite shown in 110 nations and watched by an estimated 1.5 billion viewers, they raised more than $125 million dollars for famine striken Africa where hundreds of thousands of Ethiopians had died of hunger and illness. Phil Collins actually performed in Philadelphia and then hopped on the Concorde and flew to London and gave a second performance at Wembley stadium. That crowd had no idea Queen was appearing that day, it was a last minute decision on their part. As you can see Queen and the audience made musical history that day 👑

A few quick notes, Freddie was suffering from a bad throat infection and the doctor told him not to sing. Freddie being Freddie sung his heart out and you would never know he was sick. He was drinking tea and honey for his throat. I saw that someone told you about them stealing the show and they did. Elton John came back stage and said, “ you know what, how can anyone follow that?” There was an encore at the end with Brian and Freddie singing Is this the world We created. The song is beautiful and sounds like it was written for this, but they wrote it long before Live Aid. This concert was held all day with everyone that was anyone playing. The list is really long look at it. Queen stole the show hands down! This was a huge fundraiser for the famine in Africa. The fundraiser was also in the States at the same time. There will never be another fundraiser like this ever again. Elton John, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, and on and on! Queen played to huge crowds all the time and knew how to get everyone involved. England was ruled by another Queen for 20 minutes that day! Just remember Freddie wasn’t even performing at his normal self. Queen Has so much talent it is nuts. They all wrote music, they all had number one hits and all were inducted in the Song writers hall of Fame. They are the best for many reasons. Freddie will always be with us. His music will always live forever. RIP dear man the world will never forget you❤.

Fabulous reaction to the best live performance ever by the world’s greatest band, thank you! There were a huge number of artists performing that day & Queen stole the show! They were one of the few bands who understood the concept of the show & performed a number of their greatest hits, having practiced relentlessly beforehand so they could fit as many songs into their allotted 21 mins which is the time each group had! Sir Brian May( he was knighted by King Charles) & Roger Taylor (drums) are still performing to this day with Adam Lambert as Queen + Adam Lambert & still rockin’ it! More Queen pls, if you haven’t done so pls do Somebody to Love live at Montreal in 1985, apart from Live Aid this is their greatest live performance. Liked & subscribed, love from Australia 🇦🇺

ALL of the songs are Queen originals... Elvis was an inspiration for Freddie on "Crazy little thing..." (p.s. regarding the film.. as a long-time fan.. from my teenage years... it was "okay" but the timeline was off in a lot of regards... Sorry, just found you; so, I’m late to the Comment Section! I’m a 66 y/o Glamma. You seem to enjoy the background of things. And, I’m a Trivia sponge, so here goes: They had just completed a Tour a month b4. So, they went & rented a Stadium to practice the performance. He ended up with a Throat Infection & the Doctor highly recommended he not do it bc he might lose his musical ability. He said no! Can you tell he had a severe throat infection? Most people think he was drinking booze from the cups bc on the piano. He’s drinking Honey & Tea. His command of the Audience was more than coincidence it was miraculous. Considering there were so many people there the sound was getting absorbed through them. So the people @ the back we’re following his hand gestures bc the actual sound hadn’t even reached them b4 the next sound was coming @ them. Go back & watch what his hands are doing & what the Audience is doing. NEXT: Radio Gaga is celebrating Radio bc M-TV is just getting started. LADY GAGA was a huge Freddie Fam growing up, so That was where she came up with HER STAGE NAME! You have to listen to the words to really understand the meaning. Most of us didn’t have a clue what a Band looked like unless we saw them in Person! NEXT-MICROPHONE. At sometime along the way a Microphone Stand broke, so that was the only spilt second solution they could come up with. He realized the freedom he had to move, dance, & engage the Audience. NEXT MICHAEL JACKSON & ELVIS CONNECTION on Song THING CALLED LOVE: It was written as his homage to Elvis-Freddie was a big fan. But, he just wasn’t sure about the song bc he didn’t want to taint Elvis. SO, he played it for Michael J. (Yes, they were friends!). And Michael told him he HAD TO, he said “Freddie, you have to”! (Can’t you just see that!?). NEXT FREDDIE’s VOICE. HE HAD 4 extra teeth so that’s the reason he had such an overbite. He had the ability to naturally flow from Octave to Octave. It was a natural progression, for him. SCIENTIFICALLY: Test were done on his Voice. He was able to use his Throat muscles on either side of his vocal cords. Which is normally seen in some Opera Singers. His Vocal Range was from Low Bass F, to High Soprano F! They were extremely surprised to find out that he could go from about 92Hz to 784Hz, effortlessly! See ACTUAL REPORT BELOW: nyone who has listened to a Queen track knows that Freddie has a unique ability that still has not been truly replicated since. His ability to blend highs, lows and mid range notes cohesively and with immense precision. This skill was due to the fact that Freddie was able to create faster vibrato and harmonics than any other singer at the time. Not only this, he was able to shift through registers effortlessly. Although he naturally held a baritone voice, he primarily sang as a tenor and of course had no problem then shifting into soprano parts. One study on Freddie’s vocal range even confirmed that he was able to vary from about 92.2 Hz to 784 Hz, meaning he was reliably able to hit notes from the booming low of F#2 to the high pitch G5 - that covers a full three octaves! 25:41 I’m sorry to take up your Valuable Time, and I thank you. You need anymore Trivia I’m your G’Ma go to. My Brain is full, especially with music, & believe it or not Sports! I watched a lot a “first reactions” on this particular Concert. You seemed to be the one most amazed, & truly wanting to know EVERYTHING you could find out about this Concert.

The only song in this set that wasn't a long-standing stadium favourite was Sir Brian May's "Hammer To Fall" which was their most recently released single at the time. Like many before you, you thought "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" might be an Elvis cover, Freddie famously wrote it using an acoustic guitar in a hotel bath in about 10 minutes as an homage to Elvis who had died a few years before. You are not alone, many people listening to it on the radio when it was released thought it was a recently discovered Elvis recording (Freddie had such s versatile voice). Unfortunately like many other reactors this was one of the edited versions which claim to be the full concert performance. As to the "Bohemian Rhapsody" film (movie) there are many factual and timeline errors, but as it was made as a celebration of Freddie's life condensed down to fit, I have no real complaints, and I did enjoy the little Easter eggs put in for the long term fans to spot (I didn't spot them all first time round). The band still goes on, new lead singer, new bass player, extra drummer, long standing keyboard player, but Roger still plays the drums and sings, Brian still sings and plays a variety of guitars, and the Red Special still sings to the crowd (in the hands of Sir Bri) even though it is older than the band and most of the fans, hand made by the May's father and son team (because he couldn't afford to buy a decent guitar as a teenager).

This edit of the video takes out the spot where Freddie's voice cracked a little on the final "champions' - which I don't understand why, as it wasn't that big a deal... he still nailed the "of the world". There's at least one version of this set on YT where it is left in.

Freddie wrote Crazy LIttle Thing Called Love. Queen members wrote every song that they sang. My husband and I watched on TV at home in the US and we both considered Queen to be the best. Second would've been Phil Collins' two performances. On in the UK and then, after a trip via Concord to Philadelphia, his second performance of the day.Sadly, someone cut this particular video.

The film served a keen purpose (intro for a new generation) but pales in comparison to the real thing. When you invent the life and work you want with a confidence and grace to carry it off, it is hard to forget. Sorry you got the flawed version circulating with the ending cut off...the full set can be seen with the opening act of the 2 English cops/comedy duo. Subbed for more queen, very nice reaction. Like most real fans, I have a love/hate relationship with the movie. Lots of inaccuracies but it brought Queen music and Freddie to a new generation. Reaction suggestions White queen live at the odeon. And Dragon attack 1981 live in montreal. Of course, Somebody to love 1981 live in montreal is a must.

Also this was Freddie on a bad day. His doctors advised him against singing because of an issue he had with nodules on his vocal cords. So this was him not at 100 percent, and Queen completely stole the show! All the legebdary artists of the day performed at Live Aid...McCartney, Elton John, David Bowie etc...no question Queen shut them down!

By the way, when he is waving his arm he is telling the camera guys which way he is going bc he’s moving so much. You cut off the very end. There is 2 versions. That’s all that was cut from the performance.

Queen returned frim a South American tour just 6 weeks before this with over 200,000 in the audience. The movie said they hadn't been together for 2 years, totally false as were many things in the film. Also Freddie was not dignosed for another 2 years and didn't till the band until a couple of years after that

Good reaction and comments. I loved the movie but it was very inaccurate, especially about Freddie wanting to leave the band. Continue with queen and we will follow.

@@KingGreatnessKG I’ll throw out a few suggestions to get you started: “Moonage Daydream” “Ziggy Stardust” “Changes” “Heroes” “Life On Mars?” “Sound and Vision” “Queen Bitch” “Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide” “Cracked Actor” “Time” “Little Wonder” “I’m Afraid of Americans” *the one with Nine Inch Nails. “Modern Love” “Fashion” “Be My Wife” “Right” * this one is cool because he introduced Luther Vandross to the world. David found Luther via a mutual friend, asked him to sing backup, later Luther went on with a magnificent solo career. “Fame” * John Lennon sang with David on this one. “Rebel Rebel” “The Width of a Circle” “The Man Who Sold The World “ *Nirvana did an excellent cover for their MTV Unplugged album. “Space Oddity” These last two are on his final album released just 2 days before his passing on January 10th 2016. “Blackstar” “Lazarus” “I Can’t Give Everything Away” ⚡️That’s a pretty comprehensive list of David Bowie’s career, but still just scratching the surface. ⚡️ I look forward to you hopefully going down the Bowie rabbit hole. 👨🏻‍🎤

Live Aid was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, attended by about 72,000 people, and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, attended by 89,484 people. one-third of the global population tuning into a TV broadcast at the same time. That's what happened on July 13, 1985, when 1.9 billion people watched musicians perform in London and Philadelphia to raise money for famine-stricken Ethiopians.

LAST FUN FACT: His Lead Guitarist is playing on a Guitar he & his Father made. When he first starting to learn they were too poor to afford a high end guitar. So, they just made one! The included some “extras” that would normally have to be separate instruments to get all those features (think Concerts when you see guitarist changing Guitars depending on the Song….that’s why he didn’t)! I’m sorry to take up your Valuable Time, and I thank you. You need anymore Trivia I’m your G’Ma go to. My Brain is full, especially with music, & believe it or not Sports!
