For everyone asking why she has such a big bed, not every family is rich enough to get their kids the bed they need. We got hand me down beds from them or family, after we grew out of our toddler phase. It's very common to just happen to get it, more than on purpose. And even if it's not on purpose, mattresses last a while. With her age, she will have a bed to take with her when she moves out, which as a parent, is very comforting.

I know this video is around 3 years old now, but I want to warn folks that when you put a loft bed in a room with a ceiling fan, you should consider moving the fan mount out away from the bed so that people in the bed won't be struck by the spinning fan if they forget that its there. My daughter got hit in the face with the ceiling fan in her sister's room. The fan blade hit her about an inch away from her eye. The fan was moved shortly afterward.

I'd recommend somehow securing those slats. Even under the weight of the mattress, they can slide around and create support gaps. You could screw them to the cleat or staple some webbing across them to maintain proper spacing.

I am literally crying. I have twin 4 year old boys who climb everything. When I found one of them sitting on a standing suitcase I asked why...he said ‘Mommy, im not on your suitcase, I’m in my fort looking out for bad guys’...that is when I decided to replace their less than a year old queen bed with a loft. I have cried, stayed up all hours, bought s/!t ‘building plans’, been asked out by both Lowe’s and Home Depot employees, spent SO much money that my wraparound porch looks like some kind of Texas Chainsaw Massacre themed hardware store and THEN I search the name of the most recent plan I bought and found this video. I can’t believe how uncomplicated you made this and how well you communicated the process. I have felt like I’m engineering a new form of space travel thanks to all of the ‘wisdom’ I’ve been collecting on/offline. I think I’m going to return the hundreds of dollars of fasteners and piles of 1x10s and then come home and actually make this damn bed. I know this was long, just wanted to say thank you for the love of god please figure out some way for this vid to pop up when people search ‘queen loft bed/diy queen loft/etc’ and save the next poor soul who starts down this road. 🤗
