The song is beautiful but heartbreaking. I've watched it dozens of times and still cry from start to finish.

It's a beautiful song about a very special man. There'll never be another Freddie Mercury and no one can sing Queen music in the beautiful way he did.

Even though this song came out long after Freddie has passed, Brian wrote it much closer to losing him. Brian gave a tape of the song to Roger to listen to and Roger put it in a drawer and forgot about it. When he did come across it, it was not long after their friend Versache and Princess Diana had also passed. Roger called Brian and told him that he had listened to the song and though that they should do the song as Queen. It is so obvious in this video how difficult this was for all of them but particularly Brian and John, Roger being a bit more stoic. John is nearly paralyzed and there are a few points where Brian looks like he is going to cry. The glass of Champagne was a nod to Freddie who would toast to the audience with Champagne at live performances. Beutiful song, but heart wrenching as well.

Sometimes you have to watch to the very end even after the music stops. You missed the goodbye, the door close, and the focus on Freddie's champagne flute on the piano, next to his aviator sunglasses. And the moth that fluttered on set. This was a song of love, and saying Goodbye to their dear friend.

It took a number of years after Freddie's death for them to record this and you can see it was still very difficult for them. John particularly looks utterly broken.

Both Brian and John dealt with depression after Freddie’s death. Brian sought out treatment and several of the songs on his first solo album dealt with his working through his depression. John instead chose to ultimately retire from music after Freddie’s death. As a Queen fan, I miss John but understand his decision and wish him happiness in life. There is a great tribute song Roger did as a solo artist called “Old Friends”. I don’t think there is an official video, I might be wrong, but “Old Friends” is great and worth the listen.

Thanks, guys.. Brian was a great writer, singer, and even pianist on this.. and Roger on vocals so unique - either of those guys could have fronted their own bands.. but the connection with Freddie and John made something that was "greater than the sum of their parts..."... appreciate your reaction...

I've noticed that I tend to like sad songs, which why I love this. Also Queen's saddest songs, How Wants to Live Forever and Too Much Love Will Kill You are my all time favourite songs.

Great reaction. Here's the sentiments in this song. At the beginning you see the graphic of an Angel/Cherub which was Freddie's drawings, which they displayed throughout the song, along with his books on the piano. Secondly, Brian was playing Freddie's piano and played with his "pinky" as Freddie did and thirdly at the end they left a glass of Freddie's favourite champagne on his piano for him, sad sad song. You can visibly see how upset John is and he only did this song and a few other appearances with Queen after losing Freddie.

This song makes me cry every single time. These guys were brothers. Brian and Roger were touring with Adam Lambert up until a few years ago. Brian would sing Love of my Life and for the last verse Freddie would pop up on a screen (taken from the performance of this song at Wembley) and Freddie would sing the last verse with the audience. Never is a time that I’ve seen them perform this that Brian didn’t have to wipe his eyes at the end. To this day it is painful for both he and Roger. If you would have let the video play out you hear the door shut and the director tells Brian to take it easy. I’m assuming making the video really hit Brian hard.

Maybe they didn't just do it for the fans, but did it for themselves too - how else does a musician express their feelings? John Deacon retired after this single, and although Brian May and John Taylor went on to perform as Queen, they have never released new music since this song under the bands name.

I get what Gabe is saying about tribute songs but I think it depends what the motive is behind the 'tribute'. If it is purely about remembering and doing a tribute to the person(s) it is about then I am ok with that. What I don't like is when all they are doing the tribute for is to make money or capitalise on the person(s) it was about, that is when I have a problem with it. As for the families and friends of the person, I suppose it depends on them as some will love that their family member or friend is still remembered and thought of so highly but others it can be painful. One person that comes to mind is the Hollywood actress Kate Beckinsale whose biological father was the British actor Richard Beckinsale who tragically died of a massive heart attack at just 31 years old. Kate in interviews always used to say that she would watch his shows whenever they were on just to see him, and she said his shows would always be on at important times of her life. She said even when she gave birth to her first child, Porridge (a British sitcom starring Richard alongside Ronnie Barker) was playing on the telly in the hospital. A bit off subject but I thought on tributes it might be relevant lol.
