This whole album side (the black side/side 2) of Queen 2 is, hands down their hardest hitting and most powerful work. Makes Bohemian Rhapsody sound like a cakewalk (don’t worry, I still love Boh Rhap)
@jaidenobrien2 жыл бұрын
I don't know man. Bo Rhap, Freddie considered that his Magnus opus, so I personally don't agree with you on that. But hey, everyone has a different opinion, and I respect yours! I do agree that this is a great song however!
@kentnottingham96353 жыл бұрын
Ogre battle on the same album is so BADDASS! They play the end of the song (a gong) backwards with vocal operatic, guitar and drums backwards as well and it flips over and plays forward in your headphones! Studio GENIUS!!!!!

This is such a fantastic song. Older song but still a really incredible piece of music.

Great reaction! This song is actually a story, it is about a pirate Queen who attacks another vessel on the sea. The song has a lot of Victorian phrases, blue powder moneys shot the cannons from the ships, and water babies were magical creates. They are captive, the oil and sugar is method of torture. But then the narrator falls in love with the pirate Queen, and he switches over to her side. Freddie Mercury wrote a few songs that was part of a fantasy world.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't "Seven seas of Rhye," written by Freddie for his sister, about a dream that he actually had? It seems as if I read that somewhere.

Thanks so much for this, G&T - as a sixteen-yr.old, my BFF and I were regarded as strange b/c we were obsessed with this "weird" band... but of course we have the last laugh- after 40-plus years, that "weird band" is more popular than ever.. they all missed the bus! lol

There has never been a band like Queen. The thing about Queen was that they had no fear about being unique. They didn't let anyone put them one category box. That's why Queen had fans that went from the young to the elderly. I love it. Great reaction

Freddie did say on may occasions that he hoped that people saw the humor in what he did, his writing, his costuming, his posing, his antics, all of it was intended as entertainment. I loved your reaction. I had to come back and watch one more time. In this song, I believe that we can hear the seeds being sowed that will become Bohemian Rhapsody. You might want to check out Prophet's Song which is Brian May's epic piece. There is so much technique in that piece, just layers and layers of musicianship.

Thank you for a great reaction. I love Queen, been listening to them since 1974 and I love that they have such diversity in their songs. Their songs are enjoyable by the young to the older generation. Many of their songs are icons that you hear at sports arenas, others in movies, and others in commercials. Some songs are very emotional while others are for fun. This band has 4 very intelligent musicians who can sing, write number one hits, play multiple instruments, and the greatest concerts that I have ever seen. I like Fat Bottom Girls, Another One Bites The Dust, Under Pressure, Tear It Up, Tie Your Mother Down,Princes of the Universe, Miracle, It’s a Kind of Magic, One Vision, and the list goes on. Best one is Somebody to Love, live at Montreal in 1981. Most Queen songs are so good live at Wembley or Montreal, and of course the one show at Live Aid. I’m looking forward to watching your reactions.

Great reaction! That was Queen's whole agenda. They didn't want to do the same thing over and over as some bands do. Some bands have a hit and try to do a similar song hoping for a repeat hit. As Deaky (John Deacon) said, "Freddie always liked to things in a big way."

I am a huge Queen fan, and have to confess I have no time for hip hop or rap, but out of respect for the Guy who has reviewed this, I feel obliged to listen to at least a few hip hop songs. If he is prepared to expand and come out of his comfort zone, then the least I can do, is try the same thing.

A composition rather than a song - I agree!!!!! Yes Freddie had such wit in his lyrics. It's a complex work of art that took him years to compose. This level of musicianship and brilliance is part of what sets Queen apart. Enjoying your reactions.

So much goes through my mind when I hear this song. What I love about Queen is that no matter what kind of music you normally gravitate towards, somewhere in Queens vast catalog of music there is a song that hits the mark for you personally and you can’t help but love them. For being so innovative and always pushing the envelope.

The "almost ending" in this song, I believe can be found in Bohemian Rhapsody - that's why some people call it BR big sister. Great reaction. Please react to My Fairy King - my new fav. Freddie said to Brian that that mother mercury in the song was his own mother so he was going to change his name to Freddie Mercury - which of course he did.
