@BisscuteReacts The bass line of Vanilla Ice's song was taken from this Queen song (with David Bowie) 'Under Pressure' (Album 'Hot Space', 1982). I don't remember if it was considered plagiarism.

This is probably THE most recognizable bassline ever done by anyone. John Deacon wrote himself right into history with it. It pains me that you recognized it as "Ice Ice Baby!" 😪 Deacon's other legendary stinger is "Another One Bites The Dust".

He ended up on the winning side. He made $10 million off of "Ice Ice Baby". When threatened with a civil suit, he bought the writes to "Under Pressure" from Brian May. So, he cleared $6 million off of his unauthorized sample, and he earns royalties from any use of "Under Pressure". He still owns the rights.

All of them were really friends. What makes Queen so Unique and Amazing is the fact that every single member was so talented and had his particular gift that they'd able to bring into the table. That's the most extraordinary quality of them. Roger's is very good with the high notes and, of course, a real good singer, so his voice was a very powerful complement to Freddie's lead vocals in certains songs, such as Bryan's voice which is very smooth element in other songs. That band can brag about having every single member with a least one hit written by every single one of them. You can't see that and every rock and roll band. Roger loved Freddie very much as the rest of the members. And he still post beautiful things about their friendship. They had arguments? Sure. Every single band faces rough moments from time to time. Especially when the ego is involved, but they stayed together until the end. In fact, I heard him talking about that awful moment when he found out about Freddie's illness. He was so desperate, sad, and worried that it breaks your heart to seeing him remembering that moment. Another thing that breaks your heart is watching someone who spent her life believing that Ice had something to do with the composition of this peace of art. 🤦🏾‍♂️ You should listen to the original version with Bowie. Amazing!!!

THis whole concert was amazing, it made we wish I'd been born 10 years earlier so maybe I acutally could have been there to see it for real. Instead I got it in VHS when the show was released, ALL TWO HOURS of it, and then when VHS went obsolete I got it again on DVD and I STILL immerse myself in it every year. The whole thing was just astounding, it's all worth visiting. The opening salvo especially, coming out guns blazing with One Vision, is just INCREDIBLE, they started as strong as the went on; then there's Is This the World We Created?, so beautiful, just Freddie and Brian solo on an acoustic guitar, but my absolute favourite has to be the true showstopper of Radio Gaga, with the WHOLE CROWD all clapping along in unison. It's a genuinely transcendental experience ...

The opening 'call and response' segment was also used during the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. 26 years after the original the crowd responded just the same to great man, even though he was no longer with us. Also according to Brian & Roger, John came up with the bass line while they were having a general jam, they went out for the evening for "some refreshments" and when they returned he promptly forgot how it went! Thankfully for us, he did remember it in the end!

Vanilla Ice used this bassline in his song Ice, Ice Baby without permission and without crediting the original artists which ended up costing him a lot of money. John Deacon wrote that bass line and the song is credited to Queen and David Bowie. He later claimed that he bought the rights to Under Pressure which is not true, he bought the right to use it in that song only, the song rights still belong to Queen and David Bowie. Roger and Freddie were friends and business partners way back in the early years and they never really argued or fought. The fighting was between Roger and Brian and it was a constant thing. Funny because it was Brian and Roger's band before Freddie joined them and it is now Roger and Brian still touring together today. Roger has a temper and Brian can be stubborn and will just eventually wear you down. Freddie was generally the peacemaker in the mix. Freddie and Brian often had difficulty agreeing but they were not really hateful to one another but Brian and Roger were like gasoline and a match. John didn't fight a lot but when he did, he had no intention of losing the battle. Roger does have a very high falsetto and does sing the highest notes on Bohemian Rhapsody but often in Queen songs, Freddie sings the high notes, it just depends on the song. Brian, Roger and Freddie are all lead vocalists but in Queen, Freddie was usually singing lead.

I don't know if Roger Taylor was under appreciated in the band. I'm kind of guessing here, but from what I remember hearing, the real conflicts in the band were more about musical style and direction, because Freddie wanted to do more pop, and then he went through his operatic phase, where the other guys were more rock. Other than that, and you know, probably issues related to drugs and alcohol, which was par for the course in those days, it seemed like Queen were a pretty tight band that got along and valued each other. In footage you see, it actually always seems like Freddie and Roger are always goofing around and more playful with each other, where as Brian and John seem a little more mellow and reserved.
@Bigbigpista
@Bigbigpista 10 ай бұрын
In fact there was very good balance in that. Roger and Brian were more to the rock, Freddie and John more to pop / disco / funk. That is sometimes mentioned as one of the reasons why John left the band after Freddie died. He was affraid he would not be able to his music any more. But who knows :)

This whole concert is worth for you to sit down and see from start to end, it's pretty much perfect. Even though it is quite obvious when you listen to Freddies singing that he started to show some signs of not being all that well at that point. The band was like a family, and of course they had arguments and so on. But at the end of the day, they were well aware of the importance of being that group and how they meshed into a perfect unit. In the 70's it was more common for Roger and Brian to take the lead vocals on songs they've written. In the early 80's Roger released his own solo album, and I can only guess that it gave him his creative output and became more comfortable with giving Freddie the lead vocals on his songs in the Queen camp, like Radio Ga Ga and A Kind of Magic. The version of AKOM that he had mixed was used in the Highlander movie, Freddie went into the studio and made a remix of it and that became the official version which Roger was fully OK with. And that is a great live song from Wembley that you should check out if you haven't already. 🙂

Queen, unlike almost any other band, all got on like a house on fire. The fact that all the members were writers with an equal say in the band kept the harmony. Too many bands get too precious about things, Queen had no ego about being accepting a song from just one member, or just two and still wrote other tracks collectively. To me that us what made them so special. Even with a bonafide musical GENIUS like Freddie in the band Roger could write songs or John or Brian or any combo of the four. That meant that the money the band made split evenly too. Too many bands ruin themselves with the attitude that the bass player or the drummer CAN'T write stuff.

The bass line was originally written by Queen's bassist John Deacon. Ice T “stole” this bass line. There's always a story that Freddie was eating breakfast when he heard Ice T's "Vanilla" on the radio and he smiled and called his lawyers. Ice T had to pay a lot of money so that he could continue to use this bass line.

Dear Bisscute, please be assured that after watching many of your videos and reactions AND if I was maybe 20 years younger I would certainly come over and ask for a date at the Ice cream parlor nearby - assuming there is one ;-) Go on with your great work! You are doing well in showing your natural reactions and feelings. When this concert took place nobody would ever have thought of somekind of reaction video to it. We live in a strange world nowadays, don't we?

Great song! Excited to see this, but I think you might've picked the wrong performance to watch. I could be wrong, and I completely understand you go into these blind, so there's no way you'd know, but this song was a collaboration between Queen and David Bowie, and I don't think this performance includes David Bowie. There is a live performance with him, and obviously the studio version, but maybe on your own, you should get the experience with David Bowie in there. One of my favorite Queen songs! Also, you're probably way too young to know Vanilla Ice, unless you happened to randomly catch it as an oddity of pop culture, but before you were born, he was hot for a minute as the first really popular white rapper, and he sampled the riff from this song in his big hit song "Ice, Ice, Baby". I think he actually stole it, and there was a law suit over it, which used to be pretty common then, but if you've never seen it, it is a fun time capsule from another era.

Newer music is catered to younger generations. That's probably why you heard Vanilla Ice's music sooner/more than Queen's. People tend to attribute something they've heard or seen before to the incarnation they first were exposed to it for, regardless of which source produced it first.

We often tend to think about what we have lost when an artist like Freddy Mercury passes, but I think it is just as important to acknowledge how fortunate we are to have all the amazing work they contributed, legacy which still endores. For all those who have enriched our lives with their talents and passion, I salute you. ✌️

So glad you reacted to this Biss. Freddie Mercury enjoyed the crowd so much and had more confidence in front of 100,000 people, while I was scared shitless and couldn't sleep the night before having to give a speech in front of 25 people in class. His on-stage presence is legendary.

It drives me nuts when the superior original songs are heard after the songs that used samples from the original songs. Makes me think of reactors that heard The Police's "Every Breath You Take" long after hearing songs at used it's main hook.

Vanilla Ice bought the rights to “Under Pressure” and gave credit to Bowie and Queen on “Ice Ice Baby”. Different versions of “Ice Ice Baby” have been released over the years, and the songwriting credits still go to Queen and Bowie.

The bass line was something that John Deacon (Queen’s bass guitarist) was apparently messing around playing one day when they were trying to write a song with David Bowie, and they liked it so used it. The song-writing credit was the 4 members of Queen and David Bowie. Vanilla Ice sampled the bass guitar without getting permission and after the song was released, he was sued and lost, they were paid a fee plus given writing credit on Ice Ice Baby and got a share of any money the song made
