Estimates for the audience range from 325,000 to 400,000. You can almost imagine that promoter saying "it's a tough audience tonight" Freddie "hold my beer", he then proceeds to command every single person with a movement of his hand. He was an exceptionally gifted performer, in my opinion he is the greatest showman of them all, his voice could blow anyone away. He was a complete one off and so sadly missed

I disagree with him. His best live performance ever of this song in my opinion was their 'Queen at Wembley' gig in 1986.. Totally amazing! But I understand why, The Rock in Rio gigs were some o the biggest in the world and the crowds were wild and that is a pinnacle for rock bands, But their performance at Wembley was far better.

38 years ago January 11, 1985 I was there. One of the most memorable records in the history of rock was the British band's participation in the festival. The group's first day of performance brought together around 300,000 people, the biggest audience for the show that year. “We Are The Champions”, “Love of My Life”, Radio Ga Ga” and “We Will Rock You” were part of the show. Such a historic milestone, the presentation was portrayed in the film “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

@@roberthudson1959 There is a great video of a Green Day concert. Before the show starts, bohemian rhapsody comes on as like random "radio" music before a show, and the whole damn audience goes bananas. Singing the whole song, jumping and dancing. I imagine Green Day was behind the stage going "well, shit.... we go on after that??".

That is why Freddie Mercury is the greatest frontman of all time. There was nobody like it before him and nobody like him since. To have a crowd of that magnitude sing one of your songs word for word perfectly is the best thing to hear. Freddie & Brian so humble to let the crowd have their moment. The greatest rock band ever. R.I.P. Freddie, sadly missed but never ever forgotten.

"Rock in Rio" festival that was headlined by Queen in 1985 had approximately 250 000 people in attendance. They actually played two shows at this festival in the span of a week in front of such vast audience. As to "Love of my life" - live versions are very different than a studio one (I HIGHLY recommend it - it's gorgeous). And every live performance you'll find on youtube is pretty different than any other one. Along with the studio version, I personally recommend official video of this song as it is a live version from 1979 and Freddie gives phenomenal vocal performance.

A highlight! Brian May beautifully playing his guitar and Freddie playing the audience. When they did Rock in Rio again in 2015 I believe and Brian May played the guitar and sang the song with the crowd and then asked them to turn on the lights on their phones and Freddie comes on the screen to sing the last verse. If course you cry watching it and Brian wipes his tears as well as Freddie walks off the screen back to heaven.

I saw Freddy and Queen on several different uk tours in the late 1970' until 1986 at Wembley. This song is a favourite of the crowd and is sung word for word with Freddy and Brian May by the crowd. Its always a very very special moment as it shows Freddies command over the crowd and the love everyone is feeling.Freddie was the greatest frontman ever and this song demonstrates that to perfection . I have been in crowds of 70,000 when this has been sung by a largely English audience so for this song to be sung word perfect by 300,000+ by a largely South American audience who first languages are either Spanish or Portuguese demonstrates Freddie talent, personality and character and the world wide success story that Queen was and are

Around 250,000 in Rio and Brian, Freddie sing a couple of songs together, however as these concerts were in a non english speaking country and they were singing word for word back to the group they let them carry on, and every place they visited they'd come up with a song, for these concerts Rock In Rio, Freddie loved impromptu with the crowd and they've always been a very inclusive group, and never sing any song exactly as it sounds on the record, they've always said what would be the point in paying for a live concert and hearing everything as it's on the record? They also invited fans to take part in music videos right from the early days

They still play it and Brian sings with a hologram of Freddie. He still breaks down. There's a live version from their concert from Karkhiv, Ukraine in 2008 when they toured with Paul Rodgers. 200,000 people in the crowd were singing along to each and every song from Queen to Free to Bad Company. Freddie had that magic over any crowd large or small.

Hi Bisscute, this show was amazing. In fact were 2 presentations, first one with 300 hundred thousand people and second one with 250 hundred thousand, with one week apart. The most impressive thing to me was that in a recent research made by a federal departament here in Brazil, we were presented with the information that less than 2% brazilians compreehends english, even to speak. That statistic by nowadays, so in 1985 we were less than that for sure (I am brazilian). So, having that crowd singing along, makes this much more incredible. Things that this blessed human being named Freddie Mercury done to us. Besides that, it was so pleasent watching this performance again, and facing your melted face mesmerized by that made MY day, so, thank you so so so much for this.

It is estimated that over 300,000 people attended Queen's concert on January 11th and around 250,000 more on January 18th. The thing with Freddie, was not just that the crowd worshipped him, but that he reciprocated their feelings, which in turn drew their best response. A true entertainer. One of the very best in history. I have been a massive fan since I first heard Queen back in 1973. That they named their '75 and 76 albums after Marx Brothers movies was pure genius and are probably my favourite Queen albums.

Cuando escucho ésta canción, no veo en mi mente a Queen, veo a Freddy Mercury. Que enorme artista, siento una enorme pena no haber nacido en esa época para tener la oportunidad de ir a un concierto de éste grupo ❤

You should absolutely check out "Green Day Crowd Singing Bohemian Rhapsody [Live in Hyde Park 2017]". The crowd is insane!! I promise it will blow your mind how cool it is

I second this suggestion!!!!! You have a crowd who paid good money 💵 to watch a Green Day performance and while they are waiting for the band to come on stage the filler music played to keep the audience entertained until the performance starts the crowd starts the party early to a Queen song. Epic is all I can say!!!!! It just shows the POWER of Queen!!!!! So says Austin Tx!!!!!!😎🍸

There is also a slightly obscure live version from Japan where the crowd are so loud singing that even Brian just cuts the guitar and you're left with just a crowd acapella. It's absolutely spine chilling!!! The main part on the studio version is played on piano... So beautifully produced.
